Review on the Classic Tour of Northern India

My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed our trip to India and wish to thank Transindus for an extremely well organised tour. However, we feel that we must point out one procedure we felt was most uncomfortable - the issue of endless tipping. We appreciate that tipping is important and expected in India for services which are offered and we are more than happy to do so. The issue arises at the end of the holiday when it comes to an appropriate amount for the main driver (over several days) and our actual tour guide. Your 'helpful tips' in the information booklet gave suggested amounts(lower and higher) for the whole group. However, within our group there were 8 individuals, all of whom wanted to give an equal share, but with widely differing opinions as to how much to offer. Many discussions were held towards the end of the tour regarding the amounts appropriate for the Tour Guide, the Main Driver and Helper. Agreements and disagreements were more apparent as the tour reached its closing stages and it was only during the final 24 hours that it was resolved. By this time, everyone did agree that a possible change of company policy would eliminate awkward situations and the following would surely be an improvement i.e. every person travelling to India with Transindus to pay an extra £50 per person BEFORE the holiday commences and that amount will encompass all tips as Transindus will settle each amount of money accordingly. The tour itself went very well and our Tour Guide was excellent.

VERY GOOD HOTELS AND TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS, EXCEPT WE WERE NOT MET FROM THE TRAIN AT DELHI FOR HALF AN HOUR AND COULDN'T GET THROUGH TO THE EMERGENCY NUMBER. OUR GUIDE TO TAKE US BACK TO THE AIRPORT WAS HALF AN HOUR LATE

The Mighty Brhamaputra

We spent 10 days aboard The Cheraidew,, a boat run by The Assam Bengal Navigation co. on the Brahmaputra river in Assam. This was rural India indeed...and travelling in style. We visited tribal people, tea plantations, temples, small factories. We rode elephants to get up close to buffalo and rhino.. Many birds and dolphins. Huge sunsets. Delicious food and great crew. Great experience.. We stayed in Kolkata both ends of the trip ...

A truly delightful holiday exceeding our expectations

A visit to the Golden Triangle of India with further stays in Jodhpur and Udaipur, along with a couple of brief visits to less well known places of interest to break up the travelling which was by car.

An immaculately organised tour of Rajasthan and Kerala: a magical experience.

We flew to Delhi on Jet Airways, toured the golden triangle plus Jodphur and Udaipur. We travelled independently with a superb driver until Udaipur, from where we flew via Mumbai to Cochin. We then travelled through the Western Ghats to Periyar before returning to Kovalam via a night on a rice barge. Finally we flew from Trivandrum to Mumbai, night-stopped in the Leela and then returned to LHR. The travel arrangements were faultless, the guides ...

Adventures from a houseboat

The first visit was from Leh to Srinagar by road visiting monasteries and villages on the way via Kargil. Then on to Amritsar and Darhamsa . Rather a religious tour and very interesting and enjoyable. Our second visit during the flood was an experience that we will never forget and the kindness of the owners of the houseboat during this time has made us lifelong friends. They shared everything that they had with us . We returned before our visas ran out to see that these people were alright and visited Pahalgam and Baramulla arranged by Mascot Travel who also own the beautiful houseboat. They ensured that we were safe at all times and during the flood when communication was impossible they managed to inform our daughter and TI that we were safe with them.

Trans Indus has arranged our holidays for about 10 years now. They are knowledgeable about the places that we like to visit. After an informal discussion at their friendly offices with an expert we come away feeling very enthusiastic and that it's the start of the holiday.

A wonderful holiday in an enthralling country

Laos was an even more fascinating place to visit than we expected. poor but cheerful, communist but efficient, yet Buddhist to the core. The scenery is attractive, still wild in places, the great Mekong is a hugely various vital feature and being on it or around it is a must. There are lovely small boutique type hotels. Transport, especially road, can be a pain but our internal flights were timely. Tourism is becoming a substantial earner and the increasing erection of hydroelectric schemes threatens to alter the environment - (sadly there are few birds but the butterflies are varied and gorgeous). So,now is the time to visit. Don't expect to come back unscathed by hearing about and seeing the problems historic and current the country grapples wit.

Laos is an incredibly beautiful place with traditions that permeate every aspect of lift making each day of any holiday a voyage of discovery. As Michael says, now is the time to visit before modern customs find their way into everyday life.

Both of our visits to India were organised by TransIndus and we cannot praise them too highly. Our intineraries were carefully planned by them after many emails and telephone conversations to take into account our particular interests in wildlife and ancient history and they also selected suitable hotels to match our preferences. All the arrangements with local transport and guides worked perfectly and we would be very happy to recommend them to anyone else who is planning to visit India.
