a brilliantly planned and executed journey in the footsteps of frank Lloyd Wright in the USA

Our Lecturer - Tom Abbot ( full of knowledge, enthusiasm and bonhomie )was quite superb and the Tour leader catered unobtrusively for our every need - including mosquito bites!. I would grey recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in discovering more about the greatest American architect of the 20th century as well as some of his contemporaries . A busy schedule brilliantly executed. I would go so far as to say that it is a must for anyone aiming to understand 20th century architecture emanating for the USA

We visited very many buildings, being able to enter the vast majority, some of which are not open to the public. All of these buildings and their backgrounds were the subject of lectures and detailed discussion before, during and afterwards. All costs including gratuities were covered except lunches and a couple of dinners. These arrangements worked extremely well and established a secure and favourable atmosphere for the whole tour.

Well planned and executed tour to those enthusiastic about Frank Lloyd Wright

The tour included many of FLWs seminal buildings in a number of cities, as well as buildings by those he followed and who followed him. An excellent lecturer made the most of the various visits. Good planning, comfortable travel arrangements, made this well worth while.

Martin Randall specialises in Art and Architecture, plus music. They pay close attention to details. Tours look costly until you realise that almost everything is included, and they take care to ensure expert lecturers and kind, efficient tour managers.

Tramping through Umbrian culture

I was forewarned about the physical challenges but exhilarated that I was able to complete the walks. I also think my level of cultural awareness improved. I enjoyed the meals and the companionship with the others in our (small) group. The administrator and guide were both charming and also very much a part of the group.

The tour manager was a gem, nothing too trivial to deal with and always anticipating our needs. The lecturer, never didactic, led us on journey of discovery, and clearly had a deep knowledge of her subject. Transport by bus was faultless, safe. The two hotels stayed at were excellent. All in all a very good experience worth the money.

Frescoes and St Francis' Footsteps - An Umbrian Experience.

This seven-day holiday took a small group of art enthusiasts to the green heart of Italy, walking in the footsteps of Saint Francis, leading us through beautiful, undulating, Umbrian landscapes and to spiritual places of worship and devotion, the culmination of which was our visit to Assisi's Basilica, approached on foot through the leafy Bosco Francesco. Our eyes were also opened to the beauty of Renaissance art on our visits to Sansepolcro's Museo Civico and Cattedrale to learn about Piero della Francesco's frescoes. Visits to Arezzo, Monterchi, Cortona and Spello allowed us to view more of his and others' works, all enhanced by the insightful and inspiring commentaries of our expert guide. No tourists spoiled the tranquility of the small towns of Montefalco and Bevagna where we enjoyed more frescoes and mosaics. Our final morning, en route to Rome, was spent at Montegiove and Buzzi's extraordinary theatrical complex cum surreal folly. Throughout the holiday, not only did we experience Umbrian flora and fauna on our walks and the beauty of Renaissance art but we enjoyed the varied cuisine and wine of the area. A holiday to remember, indeed.

Rating for tour operator:

Friends had extolled the virtues of Martin Randall and I knew that the company had a very good reputation for taking small cultural tours to Italy. However, I had not experienced such a holiday until this year. I can only say that they are superior to any other company I have travelled with in terms of their administration, organisation, efficiency and professionalism. The tour guide we had was exceptional - cultured, knowledgable and inspiring - and the Italian tour manager was energetic, good humoured and an expert on all things Italian. He and the tour guide worked exceedingly well together. I would certainly recommend the company and would definitely consider travelling with them again.
