Learning and luxury in the company of a like-minded group

Excellent Italian tour covering the History of Medicine and lots of related art, through visits to Florence, Pisa, Bologna and Padua. Full days of visits were enhanced by two superb lecturers, each with an impressive breadth and depth of knowledge. Supporting arrangements of travel, hotels and meals were faultless.

Learning plus Pleasure and Comfort

The holiday was on Arts and Crafts in the Cotswolds. It was a pleasure from start to finish due in great part to our extremely knowledgeable lecturer. We visited beautiful houses and churches, also staying in a very comfortable hotel. The time passed too quickly.

I have traveled with Martin Randall many times, and have always been extremely happy with them. In fact that is why I keep returning. The attention to detail is second to none. I shall now start looking for another trip with them.

Six concerts in the Erzgebirge Music Festival were included, together with all travel, hotel accommodation, excursions, most meals and the services of two first rate lecturers. Very enjoyable and interesting, with some top class music, mostly from the baroque period. Highlights included a concert performed in a tin mine. The holiday provided an opportunity to explore an unfamiliar part of Germany and to learn something of its history in addition to the music, which of course was the main focus. The concerts were nicely varied, and some were outstandingly good. They combined well-known works with some by less familiar composers, all of which were put in context by the lecturer.

Rating for tour operator:

As always the administration was efficient, with considerable attention to detail. Martin Randall Travel aims at, and achieves, a very high standard. This holiday was no exception.

Week-long immersion into Renaissance medicine

I went on the History of Medicine tour through Martin Randall Travel, it was a perfect amount of museum/site visits and downtime to explore. We were always given the opportunity to opt out of a visit, and the tour/agency was very accommodating since I booked a few days before they left. I am a student doing research in the field of classical medicine, and learning from Dr. Helen King and about the Renaissance was very beneficial to my research.

In every respect this experience exceeded expectations and I would definitely undertake another one. I would also have no hesitation recommending this company and in fact, already have done so to colleagues considering a trip with Martin Randall Travel who now are confident to proceed.

Walking and Talking Hadrian's Wall - It's History and Archaeology

Martin Randall's Hadrian's Wall tour was exceptional. Six days of bliss, Each day was memorable. There was a morning walk of part of the Wall, difficulty ranging from easy to moderate. Lunch was taken at different pubs in villages along the Wall. We spent the afternoon visiting either a fort or a museum. Apart from an accompanying Martin Randall tour manager, we were led by Graeme Stobbs, archaeologist and expert on Hadrian's Wall. With frequent stops to discuss segments of the Wall, and a lecture in the evening (glass of wine in hand), we came away full bottle on the history of this amazing structure. The six days were based at Matfen Hall outside Newcastle, so no transfers between hotels. Short bus rides to various parts of the Wall were in a comfortable couch. I can recommend this tour unreservedly.

Rating for tour operator:

Martin Randall is an exceptional tour operator. I have done two tours with them, Hadrian's Wall and Great Houses of the North, and I understand why there are so many repeat customers. They offer an experience which is unique - a high end tour characterised by excellent accommodation and meals, attention to detail, a caring attitude to all clients, and, most importantly, an accompanying expert. The expert is usually an academic who provides one formal lecture per day, and a running commentary during the tour sights, and of course is available to answer all questions. If this sounds attractive to you, then try them. You will not be disappointed.

Accompanied by evening lectures on the period, history, development and influence of artists and the progression of artistic style and technique, explained by a knowledgeable and approachable expert in the field. The tour was both informative and fascinating. It was a beautiful experience seeing art from this period in galleries and churches with a group of about 15, manageable for a learning experience.

Rating for tour operator:

They are very professional, provide plenty of material for preparation to enhance the learning experience, without feeling you are in a class. All aspects of the tour were well organised from meeting at St Pancras station to purchasing entry tickets, accommodation, meals and bus travel. No one was left astray. They were very respectful and supportive. MRT provided literature to orient the traveller before travel. I would have preferred a list of key artists and pieces seen (so I don't have to take notes) in locations instead of (or in addition to) recommended reading.

Good organisation pre-tour, although a couple of minor hiccups with the website, and with an optional excursion. During the trip, organisation was faultless. And the lecturer and guide were wonderful, so knowledgable and enthusiastic. They added so much to the trip.
