Kanchenjunga Circuit in Nepal by Rogera65, 29 Nov 2018

Kanchenjunga Circuit - An amazing experience in a remote trekking region

A long three week trek in a remote part of Nepal visiting Kanchenjunga North and South base camps. A very well organised camping trek with the group supported by a hard working team of guides, cooking staff and porters. A mix of climates from temperate forests to cold high altitude tundra surrounding Himalayan mountains. Spectacular scenery. A special place.

Nepal Himalayan trek in Upper Dolpo region

This was a wonderful 30 day trek in a remote area of Nepal, along a section of the great himalayan trail. We were a group of ten, seven of whom are friends from New Zealand who have previously trekked together in Nepal, while the other three were from the UK. There were 25 days of walking, averaging 8 hours per day, mostly at altitudes over 4,000 metres and crossing six passes over 5,000 metres. This is a remote and quite arid region, with ...

There were 25 days of walking, averaging 8 hours per day, mostly at altitudes over 4,000 metres and crossing six passes over 5,000 metres. This is a remote and quite arid region, with endless spectacular vistas, and rich with Tibetan culture. It was superbly organised by The Mountain Company, in partnership with their Kathamandu agent: www.themountaincompany.co.uk

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company is based in the UK with a partner in Kathamandu. They are experienced mountain trekking operators, and we have previously trekked with them up to the base of Mt Kachenjunga in the east Nepalese Himalaya.

Langtang & Laurebina La in Nepal by GrahamDuthie, 27 Nov 2018

Langtang, Laurebina-la and Gosainkund trek

trek to the Langtang valley then to the Gosainkund lakes followed by crossing Laurebina La pass and finally descending through Helabu to the north rim of Kathmandu valley. This area was the epicentre of the terrible 2015 earthquake. Much of the region has been rebuilt but the natural beauty remains intact. The area is getting back on it's feet and starting to attract visitors from Kathmandu city as well as abroad. Fabulous trek.

Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal with The Mountain Company

Every day of the trek was different with a constant supply of fantastic scenery. We were looked after extremely well by our guide and porters, with plenty of great food and attention to detail. The itinerary was planned to allow optimal acclimatisation, this also allowed time to explore above the highest villages where the Manaslu views were at their most dramatic.

The organisation and advice received before the trek was brilliant with lots of attention to detail and rapid responses to emails. I felt we had the best guide and porters, we seemed to be the only group with a satellite phone and I felt our safety was a high priority. The excellent planning and the way we were looked after on trek made for a fantastic experience where I could just walk and enjoy being in such an amazing place.

Trekking expedition to Everest Base Camp

The ‘holiday’ experience consisted of trekking through majestic Nepal with its stunning landscape, culture and people. The trip culminated with a visit to EBC at 5300m and to a Everest View point at 5643m where there was stunning views of Everest Nuptse Lhotse Lhotse Shah and the Khumbu icefall and glacier. We then had to walk out back to Lukla then take a plane back to Katmandu. We spent a couple of days in Katmandu either end of the visit...

We then had to walk out back to Lukla then take a plane back to Katmandu. We spent a couple of days in Katmandu either end of the visit. The whole expedition was excellent and was even above expectations from the group. As three friends we will saviour the memories. The guides from the company were excellent and became our new friends at the end of the trip.

Rating for tour operator:

The company was very organised, information and website were excellent. Due to the arduous nature of the ‘holiday’ we were given careful instructions on the do’s and don’t’s particularly associated with the physicality of the trip and health aspects. The schedule and acclimatization phase was meticulously planned with considerations of individual needs. Health and welfare were monitored at all times. We had a personal pre-expedition briefing and also a review at the end of the visit. Guides were knowledgeable resourceful opening doors into the beautiful culture and lovely Nepalese people. As a group we came up with several words to describe the experience, Tough; challenging; Awe-inspiring; Emotional in many ways; Friendship old and new; cultural; strong; Team; spiritual.

Fabulous Walking in the Annapurna Foothills

We had a 6 day guided trek in the Modi Khola valley, visiting many delightful Nepalese villages, and seeing splendid mountain scenery from every lodge. Each day was around 5-6 hours at a leisurely pace with lots of opportunity to stop and take in the surroundings. Our guide, who is from the valley, was outstanding and made sure we got to see as much as possible of village life. We also spent a couple of days at either end in Kathmandu and Pokhara, ...

Our guide, who is from the valley, was outstanding and made sure we got to see as much as possible of village life. We also spent a couple of days at either end in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but for us there was no question it was the trek that made the holiday.

Rating for tour operator:

We booked through The Mountain Company who maintained excellent communications throughout - very quick to provide answers to the many questions we raised before we travelled, and also there to meet us in Kathmandu for a pre-trek chat and a post-trek debrief. We did have one or two minor glitches with the airport transfers but these were resolved quickly.
