Lamjung Himal trek in Nepal by Chris, 6 Jan 2026

Lamjung Himal camping trek, Nepal

Excellent from start to finish - from the initial calls with Roland to determine the right trek to book, through to the superb trek leaders, cooks and porters whilst on the trek. Not seeing any other trekking groups was a special feature of this camping trek. We had clear weather and some excellent views. Strongly recommended, this trip exceeded my expectations.

The Mountain Company is first class. This is the second time I used The Mountain Company for my trekking holiday in Nepal. The tour was, once again, superbly organised. The guide selected to look after me was excellent; he paced me well and adjusted the itinerary when required to ensure I was not over-tired from the walking and that I could complete the trek comfortablly. The itinerary was well designed so that the client acclimatised well to the altitude.

Wonderful memories were made in a beautiful country exploring Upper Mustang, Annapurna Circuit and Chitwan NNR

This was my first teahouse trek. The accommodations were very comfortable, clean and owners clearly cared for our well being. The food choices and quality was outstanding. The weather was terrific and the landscape absolutely amazing. I absolutely lived this trek. In the second part of my adventure I walked the full Annapurna Circuit. Stunning mountain views, local life, monasteries, wildflowers and great company were the highlight of this trek. Also crossing the Thorong La pass and walking up to the Dhauligiri Icefalls will be remembered for a long time. To complete my time in Nepal I visited Chitwan National Park. We spotted in one day eleven Rhinos. I spent a wonderful time in Nepal and can't wait to go back for more exploring.

The Mountain Company are the best trekking company I have used for trekking in Nepal. My friends are teasing me that I should work for the company, because I speak so highly of them. Also I should mention that my children feel comfortable that their mother is looked after while she is away in Nepal. Any pre-trek queries are answered promptly. The Mountain Company are very client-focused, listening and reacting to post-trek feedback. Their staff in country are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, caring, just the best! This was my third trek with The Mountain Company and I have signed up already for my next trek with The Mountain Company.

Excellent trekking on the Kanchenjunga Circuit (North & South basecamps)

The Kanchenjunga Circuit (North & South Basecamps) trek itself was sublime. Amazing landscapes and majestic mountains. Be warned that it is not an easy trek, but the rewards are plenty, and where you do not see many other groups. Some organizations do go in the opposite direction but the MTC has definitely got this right, and also factor in well the acclimatization into the trek. Be warned that it is not an easy trek, but the rewards are plenty, and where you do not see many other groups. Some organizations do go in the opposite direction but the MTC has definitely got this right, and also factor in well the acclimatization into the trek. But the last 3 days were especially unique (and not offered as far as i am aware by other operators), since you descend lower and into small Nepalese villages and can truly witness their way of life - it becomes far more than a simple 'mountain trek'. Go and see Kanchenjunga!

This was the first time I travelled with The Mountain Company (TMC), and I echo other comments found online - impeccable organisation, great guides, high attention to detail, clear and frequent communication from Roland. Overall - I highly recommend the MTC and the way they put together this trek. I would (and will) definitely travel again with them again.

Everest Base Camp in Nepal by Annie, 22 Dec 2025

The best decision I’ve made in years. The best company to do it with.

Our trek was to Everest Base camp. A long standing dream. Through a recommendation we chose The Mountain Company. The focus on preparing yourself physically and mentally was driven home. This is not a trip for the faint hearted, and training indoors just won’t cut it. Our trek was ...

Having heard great reviews, and speaking at length with the owner, Roland Hunter, we felt very confident in booking with them. The pre-trip info was extensive. The focus on preparing yourself physically and mentally was driven home. This is not a trip for the faint hearted, and training indoors just won’t cut it. Our trek was planned down to the last meal. Our guide was great. His knowledge was second to none. We were constantly testing him. lol. What’s this. What mountain is that etc. we also had a fantastic porter who was there on hand to help on occasion at some of the steeper ascents. We chose to do our trek off season hoping for a quieter time. The downside to that was the severe cold temperatures as you gained altitude. But the Mountain company prepared us for it, so we knew how to stay warm. We couldn’t have asked for clearer skies, breath taking views, and some tear jerking encounters with some of the animals…..it’s quite the emotional rollercoaster…. Pictures just don’t capture the magnificence of the Sagarmatha National park…. Will def do another trek with them…

Rating for tour operator:

They were very professional, informative and organized. Even before we booked with them they sent us tonnes of info. It was never a sales pitch. In fact I felt like I was being interviewed by them.. They were very hot on making sure you understand the need to train for it. We’re very helpful with suggestions of what to, and not to do. Just before our trek, there was a very bad weather situation in the region which resulted in many people having to be rescued. The mountain company prepared us avoided this as they track the weather continuously. This really gave us the confidence that we were in the right hands. While we were there, they were always contactable in case of any issues. Highly recommend them

Annapurna Circuit trek followed by a short safari to Chitwan NNR

I have been visiting Nepal since 2007. This was my 8th time in the Himalayas. I have always used The Mountain Company to organise my treks. The personal service provided by the proprietor Roland Hunter is second to none. All questions are answered promptly, advice is always available. Their local Sherpa guides, porters and staff are friendly, knowledgeable and so kind and helpful. Why would I want to use any other tour operator?

All the transfers in country were excellently conducted, the staff extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The accommodations and food throughout were very good to excellent. The itinerary and route well thought out so as to be on old trails as much as possible to avoid busy roads as well as being beneficial to proper acclimatisation. We had a wonderful time and could not recommend the company and the full circuit highly enough to anyone thinking of visiting Nepal.

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company are the best trekking outfit I have used for trekking in Nepal and I have used a few of the bigger names of the industry in the 40 years and 25 treks I’ve done there. This is my sixth trek with them and they are consistently excellent. Any pre trek queries are answered promptly and it’s noticeable they have a lot of first hand knowledge of the areas they operate in. Their staff in country are also extremely knowledgeable, friendly, caring and competent. Their itineraries are well thought out and allow plenty of time to do the routes safely with minimal chance of altitude sickness concerns. A very professional outfit.

Rating for tour operator:

We've been on a number of treks with The Mountain Company as they always provide an excellent trekking experience - from the initial query or booking and pre-trek communication to the trek itself and follow-up afterwards. The itineraries and logistics are well-planned and the guides are top-notch. We appreciate the safety aspects such as good weather forecasting, sat phones and ability to adjust itineraries when needed. Another differentiator is that Roland is in Kathmandu during trekking seasons so is able to monitor things on the ground. We enjoy meeting like-minded people on TMC treks, many of who have done multiple treks with TMC as well.

Naar to Upper Mustang GHT Nepal by Richard C, 16 Dec 2025

Naar to Upper Mustang - remote trekking in Nepal at its best.

At 4100m, Naar sits above the tree line in an open valley with a semi circle of traditional, flat roofed, stone buildings sandwiched together overlooking terraced fields and all surrounded by snow dusted mountains. From Naar the trek took us up even more remote valleys aiming for the 5595m high Teri La pass leading towards Mustang. After leaving Naar we only saw 3 other trekkers before we dropped down into Mustang. This section offered wonderful walking on narrow, undulating paths surrounded by amazing views of multi coloured, snow capped mountains. The scenery on reaching Mustang was different, but no less impressive, with a high arid plateau cut through by river valleys - resulting in almost vertical fluted edges, which from a distance appeared impregnatable. We visited three villages of interesting but differing character en-route to our destination of Lo Manthang, climbing up and over the plateau each time. Some snow towards the end of the trip changed the views from yellow hues to white but they were still of equal beauty. Overall a fantastic camping trip which takes you away from the beaten track and into areas seldom visited by people other than the local Yak herders.

Rating for tour operator:

This was our first trek with The Mountain Company and we were very impressed with the overall organisation and range of trips offered. The pre trip information is comprehensive and Rolland was quick to answer any additional questions we had. We very much appreciated the hard work of our trekking crew and the excellent way they looked after us. Rolland's monitoring of the weather forecast and regular communication with our local guide meant that they were able to agree necessary, weather enforced, changes to our travel arrangements towards the end of the trip. We will certainly look at travelling with The Mountain Company again.
