We were part of a large group visiting The Gambia to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the opening of our school The Don McMath Foundation in Kotu South.

Gambia Experience are very knowledgeable and helpful when booking holidays through them. It was no problem for them to order private transfer for 10 of us from and returning to the airport.

Great value holiday. Good service from The Gambia Experience. Lovely people. Good food options. Let down by poor country infrastructure

Mandina Lodges by Ali, 1 Mar 2023

A great holiday in The Gambia and Northern Senegal, with a focus on birdwatching

A very good mix of three locations:- the Bakotu in Kotu on the Atlantic coast with great birdwatching opportunities; the Mandina Lodges in the sacred Makasutu Forest; the Keur Saloum Hotel in Toubakouta, Senegal, on the Sine Saloum estuary. Overall, great for active people, who want to get out to see wildlife, especially birdlife.

Your rating options above are limited (like Tripadvisor!) and we would choose “very good” if it was available. The product provided is very good and the transfers were all well-managed. Queries are well-answered. The reason we do not go for “excellent” is that (as we have told TGE) they fall short on giving guidance to paid-up clients who are planning for their upcoming holiday - such as a) guidance on range and prices of excursions locally, so we can budget; b) guidance on the role and sheer importance of reasonable tipping for staff and providers of services who earn tiny wages and who often depend on tips for much of their income; c) guidance on the costs of local meals & drinks, when credit cards are often not accepted; again for budgeting purposes; d) guidance on where best to exchange foreign currencies for dalasi or CFA - good advice, in our experience can give the traveller between 5 and 10% more buying-power when they exchange!!

Amazing experience

It was our first visit to The Gambia and Senegal and it was an amazing experience and we intend to return. We stayed for four nights at Mandina lodge in Makasutsu Forest, The Gambia, then travelled to Senegal and spent three nights in a luxury tent in Fathala Game Reserve. We then returned to The Gambia and and stayed in Bakuto Hotel in Kotu for seven nights. We enjoyed all the different activities we were able to do including canoe trip ...

We enjoyed all the different activities we were able to do including canoe trip along mangrove river, walking with lions and relaxing on beautiful beach. We were looked after expertly by everybody, wherever we went and very impressed with the care taken for each transfer. We also loved The Gambian people who we found so friendly and smiling.

Rating for tour operator:

The Gambian Experience were very helpful when we first contacted them and we were able to tailor our holiday to exactly what we wanted.
