Traveled to Kenya on holiday organised by Safari Consultants. From the point of booking to return home their service was faultless. Very professional, straightforward and helpful. Probably the best travel company I have traveled with.

Combining a trip to Rwanda to see the gorillas with a safari in Kenya. In Rwanda we stayed at the Gorilla Mountain View Lodge in Ruhengeri, not the flashiest of accommodation but a great base with good food, lovely rooms and amazing views. We did a Golden Monkey trek the first day, great fun and a good warm-up walk for the gorillas. Our Gorilla trek the next day was the highlight, we chose a short trek and it took about an hour and a half to reach the Hirwa group. The going was steep but good as there had been little rain prior to our visit. The hour spent with the gorillas was mind blowing, an experience none of us will forget. The guides, trackers, porters and guards were all excellent on both treks we did. In Kenya we stayed at the Kicheche Mara Camp in the Mara North conservancy. A fantastic tented camp set in the most beautiful area. This was my husbands first safari and as I have stayed at this camp before I knew it would be the perfect introduction. This March turned out to be an ideal time to visit (despite the misgivings of some of my more 'safari experienced' friends), there was a lot of long grass but also plenty of areas with short grass too giving a real variety of sightings. Our wonderful guide Jimmy was informative, attentive and great company. Safe to say my husband would now like to go again - my plan worked!

Yet again Mary at Safari Consultants planned our holiday perfectly. We had a couple of thoughts on what we would like to do and Mary made it reality with the ideal itinerary. The advice and information on all aspects of the trip was excellent. You cannot beat using such an experienced team as Safari Consultants to ensure the holiday is exactly what you want.

The Safari Consultants Team (specifically Frances and Josie whom I worked with) was simply outstanding. Their incredible level of knowledgable, kindness, efficiency and accessibility was superior to none. Their degree of understanding of the various options and ability to describe the differences between lodge options and areas to consider was invaluable for a first time South Africa safari goer. To the Safari Consultants Team, THANK YOU for making our first Safari a memorable, amazing once in a life time experience, looking forward to planning the next one with you!

Rating for tour operator:

Safari Consultants have now organised several tailor made African Safari holidays for us. These people are passionate about Africa and about delivering a great experience from start to finish. They never fail to deliver and will carefully plan your holiday around what you want to see and do and importantly what your budget is. Regardless of budget they will never compromise on quality so this is no "out of a brochure" holiday. The Safari Consultants team regularly visit the camps that they use so at least one of the team will be able to answer specific questions from first hand experience. They are extremely well respected by the camps and are renowned for being sticklers for high standards which is great for all of us that use them. All really down to earth people who take real pride in everything they do - we wouldn't go anywhere else for a Safari holiday.

Our trip include wildlife safaris, battlefield tours, scenic and ethnic experiences to last a lifetime rolled into three wonderful weeks. Food in South Africa can generally count amongst the best in the world. You do not have to eat in the most expensive restaurants to find this. Quite ordinary places produce extraordinary cuisine. Even the "Bush Kitchen" with Boerworst, Pap and Sheba on tin plates was fantastic. In the lodges and hotels food was taken very seriously and was a culinary delight. Safari drives teemed with game, we saw the "Big Five" on our very first evening and regularly thereafter along with countless other creatures all up close and personal with excellent trackers and rangers. Battlefield tours and talks brought alive not only the battle itself but the political and personal background and aftermath from which no one could go away after and not reflect deeply on the mistakes of the past and how they are repeated even today. This was a holiday unlike any other we have experienced and with which we shall treasure many memories aides by the 1,100 photos we took.

Safari Consultants in collaboration with our agent Journey's a la Carte met our every need. We got exactly the flights, the experiences, the vehicle hire and the guidance we sought. Their combined expertise in putting together our itinerary shows the incredible expertise and dedication of those organisations. Often in the past has their been a slight taste of 'Oh well, this is something they have pulled of the shelf, dusted down and thrown at us'. Not so here. We got an itinerary which exactly matched our needs within the time scale we had allotted, perfect.

An excellent Safari experience

This is the second Kenyan Safari I have been on with safari Consultants and I cannot praise them enough. Every aspect of the Safari was superb, the accommodation, food attention to detail etc., could not be bettered. They looked after us from start to finish. I would not hesitate for one moment if I had the chance to go with them for a third time. Well Done Safari Consultants.

As I have stated above, Safari Consultants are an excellent tour operator. From start to finish everything was organised for us even down to collection from the airports and arriving at our destination. The chosen accommodation and food could not be bettered. We were two women travelling together and felt we were in safe hands from start to finish.

We visited the battlefields of Spioenkop, Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift as well as the Drakensburgs before spending some time in Durban. We were all four, two adults and two teenagers, amazed of the way Safari Consultants have guided and organized our trip the whole way through. From the first little request se sent to the arrival in Nairobi airport and all three wonderful camps and lodges we stayed at. It totally topped our expectations and we were simply attached to the unspoiled nature and animals in one place surrounded and protected by a kind and friendly community. We will definitely recommend the three camps we stayed at; Kicheche Laikipia, Sossian camp and Off beat Mara Camp. Especially the warm hospitality and wonderful activities such as horse riding and fly camps at Sossian was the high lights of the week that we will never forget.

Rating for tour operator:

We were happy for being in contact with Mary from the first email. She guided us the the right decisions of where to stay and which camps was best for our family and our requests. It was all a perfect match. Only to two issues we can add some comments; the restaurant for lunch near Karen Blixens museum and the giraffe center. We came straight from a lovely nature and beautiful game drives and then the driver insisted to take us to this restaurant, though we asked for another one we got recommended by Session, but the driver said there was no time. The restaurant was only visited by drivers and tourists. The food and drinks was more than one hour late, the staff dis´t speak well English and their service level was low. The giraffe center was disappointing in a matter of size and how to meet giraffes. It was like turning back to another century to see how touristy they have built up this place. We definitely thought it would be a much more Giraffe friendly place, and not a feeding place. We would have been happy with out this visit.
