The leadership of the tour was a vital ingredient in its success. We were blessed with 2 experts who worked together and tirelessly to ensure a seemingly disparate group gelled. All participants were enlightened and informed not only about Ancient Greek history, culture and archaeological intricacies and Byzantine frescoes, but seemlessly about the day-to-day activities and timetables. Their teamwork was complemented by an experienced , charming and caring driver, Panayotis. The hotel and restaurants had been carefully chosen, always giving a variety of location and cuisine, catering to the needs and tastes of the group, whether vegetarian, pescatorian or carnivore. We relished many local specialities, rustic and sophisticated breakfasts and treats. Our fellow travellers were linked by modern technology, i.e. WHISPERS, which enabled those who paused for photos, ornithological and floral interests etc. to be included as we kept up-to-scratch and in touch at all times. A good time was had by all. In summary, the depth of knowledge and the enthusiasm of the guides, and the quality of the experience in general were exceptional.

Excellent and detailed guided tours of the important sites in Crete from Neolithic through Byzantine times. Fine dining with emphasis on local Cretan ingredients and staying mostly in unique boutique hotels.

Extremely helpful in providing alternate meals for special diet needs. Personally made arrangements to for COVID testing requirements of entry and exit, which would have been awkward to try to do yourself.

Trip around Sicily viewing archaeological sites and tasting Sicilian cuisine and wines

We were looked after extremely well, guided carefully and with great information about all the sites we visited and food we ate.

We spent a week in Athens leading up to the Orthodox Easter celebrations. We explored some important classical sites in and around Athens,, and we observed the religious ceremonies of Easter week, as well as some excellent practical sessions decorating pottery and cooking.

The holiday arrangements were top notch. The hotel was excellent and in a perfect location, The guides both came from Athens and knew the city and region extremely well. Furthermore, they were both experts, one in the field of classical Greece and the other in Byzantine architecture. We could not have had a better team.

A fantastic holiday, the entertaining and knowledgeable guides made the history come alive and did an excellent job in explaining Sicily's complex past. The historical sites were all amazing and beautifully scenic with abundant wild flowers. All the accommodation was very good and the food everywhere was exceptional.

Our 2-week Peter Sommer Travels Tour "Exploring the Peloponnese" was a surprising and wonderful introduction to the history and natural beauty of this area of the Greek mainland. We were accommodated in excellent hotels in beautiful surroundings, introduced to the complexity and variety of Greek history from the Bronze Age to the present day, tasted a huge variety of delicious local food and wine, and were amazed by the gorgeous green and colorful spring scenery.
