We had a trip of a lifetime sailing the breathtaking Turkey Aegean Coast. We feasted on delicious Turkish food, and learned so much regarding ancient history while standing on the very soil where everything happened. We felt so fortunate to have had this experience and are yearning for more! I cried when our trip was over. The beautiful Turquoise Coast mimicked the excitement of learning about our civilization and wanting to learn more and to taste the delicious foods of Turkey and to yearn for another trip there - With Peter Sommer and his crew!

Our tour operator - Peter Sommer was brilliant. His depth of knowledge and ability to impart that was exciting. The planning and rhythm of the trip was great. Even when weather affected us we were flexible and always had a plan B. Because of the connections that the company has we were introduced to some very special people.

Best group tour we have taken. Peter's archaeological expertise and management skills made for an amazing gastronomical and educational trip. Group size was perfect and gulet boat is the ideal way to appreciate the environment and history of the area. Boat crew was attentive and professional. Gastronomic destinations were intimate, delicious, and well curated. Highly recommend this tour.

Peter Sommers is a great archaeological educator and tour organizer. He was also very nimble in adjusting our schedule to changing conditions on the water.

The tour 'Exploring the Peloponnese' far exceeded my expectations. Our two guides were wonderful storytellers with an impressive breadth of knowledge about the history behind all the sites we visited. This is quite impressive given what a great span of time (~9,000 years) and the many civilizations that were included in the tour. The trip is well-paced and I'm looking forward to another Peter Sommer Travels tour in the future.

The Peter Sommer tour was flawlessly organized with great attention to pace, the sites we visited, and lovely boutique hotels. Best of all were the two tour guides who made the trip memorable from beginning to end.

This was an amazing trip on board a magnificent mulberry, mahogany, and teak sailboat, Sultan A. Built in 1995 with 8 cabins (each with a shower, toilet and sink) plus accommodations for the crew of 5, our traditional gulet was comfortable as well as safe. Every meal was excellent with a variety of choices. My food allergy was respected! I highly recommend our gastronomic tour. In addition to learning how certain dishes were prepared, we watched our teachers pull roasted eggplants out of the fire with bare hands. We visited an olive oil press and learned how the process has changed over time. We also visited a vineyard. Fun. As we were in Turkey, it was fun to visit a few archeological ruins. Great trip!

A terrific introduction to the long, rich history of Sicily. We visited many iconic historic sites, and the guides brought them alive, happily engaged with us travelers. The accommodation was top-notch, and the food beyond description.

Olivier's expertise in ancient Sicilian history and welcoming manner enriched the experience at every site we visited. His associate, Giuseppe, provided the same for the medieval sites. Fascinating discussions throughout the trip!

This was a two week exploration of historical sites and museums around the Island of Crete. Minoan, Mycenean, Classic Greek, Roman, Byzantine and modern sites were included. Two professionals led the trip Maria, a native Greek who managed the trip and is a professional archaeologist and Peter, another archaeologist who has been working in Crete for several decades. Maria also organized the meals to celebrate local foods in local restaurants providing an excellent array of dishes. The knowledge of the team was extensive, and their enthusiasm for the topics was clear.

Peter Sommer has tours focusing on history and archaeology together with a focus on local cuisine. The trips are small groups of interested individuals.

Our tour bus and driver were exceptional, ensuring smooth and enjoyable travel throughout the island. Reflecting on the journey, we realize that organizing such an enriching experience independently would have been impossible. Peter Sommer Travels provided an unparalleled opportunity to explore, learn, and savour the wonders of Crete.

Our adventure in Crete marked our first land tour with Peter Sommer Travels, following two memorable gulet cruises in Croatia and Turkey. This experience surpassed our expectations.

This tour exceeded our expectations in every way. The guides and crew were excellent, the boat was beautiful, comfortable and a great way to travel, the food was to die for and the ancient sites that we visited and often had nearly to ourselves were fascinating. what a great week full of history, packed with interesting insights and wild nature. the guide and his local companion were ever helpful and always available. the gullet was a real holiday experience, the crew very hospitable, the food fresh and local.
