Walking from Atrani, through Amalfi and along the coast to Sorrento was an exhilarating if sometimes challenging experience. Villages are built into almost sheer cliffs and the engineers of old constructed steps - hundreds of them - to ease the way up and down what would have been impossible inclines. Our first couple of days was spent exploring the local villages before setting off westwards along the coast. Having by now built up some leg muscle, what steps we had to climb were much less of a trial and we were able to fully appreciate the breath-takingly deep ravines, dramatic cliffs, olive groves, high places and delightful villages through which we passed. The distance walked in a day did not exceed 10 miles and on occasion we were able to reduce this, and avoid some climbs, by taking a bus part way. Our luggage was forwarded to our hotels so we needed to carry only day packs. A couple of days tacked on at the end of the holiday meant we could explore Sorrento itself, visit Herculaneum and Vesuvius, and take a ferry across to Capri. We went at the beginning of October so the temperature was a comfortable 23 degrees.

Staff at On Foot Holidays have walked the routes they offer, and our Walkers Packs contained all the maps, comprehensive directions and all the information needed to ensure we had a good experience. They also provided .gpx files which could be imported into a smartphone satnav app, which was a useful additional backup. The routes and accommodation seem to be very well researched. All emails and queries were dealt with promptly and efficiently, and new information passed on to us in good time. A very friendly company to deal with.

Naxos and Amorgos by Ms C C 17, 20 Oct 2017

Walking holiday on Greece islands

We spent 4 days in Naxos and 3 days in Amorgos on self guided walks provided by On Foot Holidays. We stayed in lovely hotels that were accessible to restaurants, stores, etc. The walks took us to beautiful places and we were able to have a good feel for the country, culture, people. WE took ferries from one island to the next, which were really a nice way to see the larger island geography. And the weather was excellent !

They are terrific! They worked with me to get the best itinerary. They are very flexible and responsive. They provide very accurate directions and maps. They are very thorough and think through every detail, which makes everything work out perfectly. The hotels they select are very lovely- small, accessible and the hotel managers are very attentive and accommodating. They have good partners with Taxis and give a lot of information about taxis, buses, etc. The transfers are seamless.

Spectacular ridge walks on Amalfi Coast

We walked from Amalfi to Sorrento over 8 days and it was exactly what we hoped for. While the climb up in the morning at the start of each walk was a challenge, we had been provided with bus information and we often took advantage of this. But the ridge walks were amazingly beautiful and we rarely met other walkers. Overall, a great experience and one that I would certainly recommend.

Amazing views, autumn colours and attention to detail

We walked the historic Via del Sale from south of Milan to the coast at Camogli. Each day was well planned, the hotels and food hit the spot and we arrived feeling fit, happy and relaxed. The trip structure means you end in a nice place with a chance to relax, or in our case, do a day trip and big lunch day in Portofino. What's not to like?

OnFoot Holidays gives a very personal service and is well liked and respected by the hotels and people it has on the ground in Italy. The walk notes were great and the attention to detail made for a relaxing trip with everything working like clockwork.

Met every expectation and beyond and we want to do it all over again!

Our holiday was to walk the 334km Camino Primitivo to Santiago de Compostela over 13 days. The route was fabulous and the views to die for. We were blessed with sunny weather, considering we were in North Spain in mountains in September/October. We saw the real Spain and met some fantastic people along the way. It was a walk you could spend lots of time by yourself along the way or tag along with people as and when. The food was delicious ...

We booked the Camino Primitivo walking holiday and from starting the 'holiday research' stage through to finishing our holiday, On Foot have been amazing. I can honestly say they're the best company I've booked with. The accommodation they found was fabulous, they were always quick to respond to queries and requests for information and you felt fully supported whilst on holiday through their local representative. Nothing was too much trouble for them and you can tell they have a real passion for the holidays they offer.

We have consistently found, having now had three On-Foot holidays, that they provide an excellent service including detailed pre-holiday information to prepare yourself for the walking and a complete guidance package for when on the walk. Also they vet and arrange for the accommodation en-route. It is difficult to find fault with their service which includes an excellent team working out of their Salisbury office who respond very quickly to any questions that you may have. I believe that we well travelled walkers, who have hiked all over the globe in numerous countries, so we understand the needs of hikers in foreign locations. As we have become older On-Foot save us the many hours of preparation for such foreign hiking excursions and above all arrange for our kit to be transported between accommodations, something very helpful at our age.

Rating for tour operator:

An excellent organisation with very responsive individuals within their team. Organising foreign hiking holidays can be quite time consuming and On-Foot offer a very good alternative to doing iy yourself. It is however key that the company is highly responsive at the time when you are making the decision for a trip and between then and actually going on the holiday. On both counts On-Foot score highly. The On Foot team appear to be very well trained, are personable and react very well to any small issues that you may raise.

A great holiday experience and will book with On Foot again in the future

What a real treat the Bohemian Paradise was. Yet another great holiday from the On Foot team. The walks were fabulous; the organisation and walking directions were excellent, as usual. The accommodation of a good standard and the walks themselves were well paced and had amazing and unique scenery. The overall experience was a really positive one that we wouldn’t mind repeating if there weren’t so many other walks to explore.

We have booked with On Foot previously on a number of occassions (this one was our second this year!). We have found them to be a very professional outfit that care about their customers and deliver an excellent service.

I chose (since I had previously cycled the main Camino)to restrict myself to the Asturias section of the Primitivo - Oviedo (more precisely, Salas) to Lugo. I had read a journalistic account of this route some years ago, which stressed the physical challenge of the Primitivo. I approached the week with some trepidation given my age (72) but in fact it didn't prove particularly difficult. More important than the distances are the Cumulative Uphill Stretches; in effect, one is climbing a decent-sized hill and doing a long-distance walk. Bag transfer and pre-booked accommodation removes stress. I was entranced by the scenery and pastoral nature of the landscape; at one point I foun d myself virtually walking through a huge milking parlour!

Rating for tour operator:

My first contacts with On Foot were by phone and the fact that I was speaking to someone who had recently walked the route was very helpful. The company tailored the week to my requirements and the various arrangements (taxi transfers etc.) worked very satisfactorily. My one engagement with the local representative (over delayed bag transfer) proved highly effective.

Very helpful even when I changed the itinerary after we had booked; prompt replies and a totally well run and efficient trip. I appreciated the phone call just before we left home to check if we are alOK.
