Hiking a week along the Turkish Lycian coast and mountains - fantastic!

On Foot Holidays made our trip seamless and perfect! The self-directed walker's package, attention to detail, excellent first rate lodgings, drivers and local tourist contact - means we will definitely choose On Foot again. Five stars for sure!

It is important to mention we were holidaying in the middle of October in regards to the weather and surprisingly our comments about crowds but great temperatures for walking. A holiday we had always wanted to do having waited 50 years to see Pompeii and Herculanium. We arrived in Amalfi by ferry which was magical. The next part of the holiday was to walk from Amalfi to Sorrento. Because of Heavy storms and our own inclination we completed about 3/4 of the walking. Much of it was challenging for us because so much of it was straight up and down on concrete mule steps dating from the Middle Ages. But we managed it albeit slowly. We used excellent public transport to fill in the gaps. After the walking we stayed in Sorrento which we liked very much and visited Pompeii, mount Vesuvius, Herculaneum and the Palace of Popaea all of which we thoroughly enjoyed and would have liked second visits especially to Pompeii. Lastly we travelled by ferry to Capri where we spent 2 nights which was enough time to see the beautiful gardens at Villa San Michele, walk a little and go to the top of Mount Solaro by chair lift through the fog which was exciting.the weather had completely broken so we were unable to do and see the beautiful things we would have liked. Finally we attempted to visit the National Museum of Archeology on our way back to the airport - we arrived at its doors to find it was closed on a Tuesday ,( our fault -mentioned in our instructions but over looked in the last minute decision to visit it. )Our main disappointment. We were disappointed with the commercialisation of the Amalfi coast, the food in most restaurants was expensive and not thrilling and it was too crowded- fortunately not on the walks . None of these points were the fault of the company.

Rating for tour operator:

The holiday was well planned and presented by 'On Foot' . They were always helpful before we left and made every effort to accommodate our requests. Every eventuality seemed to have been anticipated. And most importantly for older walkers , we were free to walk or not walk as we chose at our own pace and alternative public transport was suggested for each day. The hotels they had chosen were good and comfortable and our luggage preceded our arrival at each hotel most efficiently. We would have no hesitation in recommending ' on Foot'

Sabine Hills Walk

We spent five days walking in the Sabine Hills north of Rome, staying in small hill towns or agriturismos. The countryside was beautiful but off the beaten track so we only saw a few other walkers the whole trip.

Fabulous vacation - beautiful scenery, great hotels.

We had great weather (even hiking in the rain for the 2 days that we did wasn't too bad if you're prepared). The views are amazing, the scenery breathtaking. It's easy to adjust the day's itinerary to your level of fitness/activity. We chose to do all the extra add-ons and never took the bus once. The Amalfi Coast is a gorgeous place and we would rate our holiday as excellent.

On Foot Holidays were very responsive before and throughout our vacation when needed. We were well taken care of. The hotels were very nice and clean - all had a view. Routes were well indicated - it is like a mini treasure hunt! We were very pleased with the tour operator and would definitely consider them again in the future.

A self-guided walking holiday in Andalucia.

We had six days' of walking In the Grazalema Natural Park in Andalucia, followed by two days relaxing in Ronda. The walking took us off the beaten track through very varied countryside, with spectacular views and opportunities to see wildlife such as eagles and vultures. The accommodation provided en route was excellent, with all our hosts being very welcoming and helpful. The food was also a major highlight of this trip!

On Foot Holidays again provided the efficient and seamless service we have come to expect from them. In an age of 'select a number' phone systems, it is a breath of fresh air to have your call answered straightaway by a real person, who immediately knows who you are and has full details of your trip to hand. This was our fourth holiday with them and we plan to work through as many of their trips as we can over the next few years!

Turkish coastal walking: hot but happy

Beautiful scenery, delicious food, good people, excellent and interesting accommodation. Moonlight and hot sea and turtles and cypress trees and rich pomegranates. Pebbly beaches, blistered feet, cold Effes, call to prayer and cockerels crowing. Layers and layers of civilizations, friendly dogs and longlegged hens.

We had prompt responses to all inquiries and emails. Excellent walk route- obviously very carefully thought about from a walker's point of view, and excellent walk notes and maps. Notes on how to load the GPS software an the route were very clear and worked first time. Also clear from talking to accommodation hosts that On Foot Holidays staff and management actually walk the route themselves and stay at the accommodation, so they have first

Strenuous, exhilarating walking rewarded with great views and great restaurants

We chose the 7 day Amalfi Coast walk from Amalfi to Sorrento which included steep climbs up to Ravello, some lovely woodland walks and the famous Sentiero degli Dei, ( foot path of the gods ) along cliff tops high above the sea with spectacular views down to the sea below. Another day saw us climbing down to the beautiful Marina di Furore fjord; azure blue water framed by and entering through a massive archway in the mountain to form a small beach...

The last couple of days were spent on the rural headland around Sant'Agata with views to Capri amongst peaceful groves of lemons and olives.

On Foot provided excellent, thoroughly researched and up to date route notes for each day of the walk together with maps and background information. The friendly team at On Foot are always prompt with their replies to requests and queries. They are able to assist with planning the walk so that one can add on additional nights or vary the walk; even arrange airport taxi pickup which is very helpful for people arriving from overseas. They pre-book all accommodation and arrange for luggage transfers from hotel to hotel. We have walked twice now with On Foot holidays and each trip has run smoothly and been very enjoyable.

We were stunned by the beauty of the countryside and the warmed by the friendliness of the local people.
