Cilento National Park by SCD, 30 Jun 2025
Holiday Rating:

A fantastic mix of scenery in a very unspoilt and beautiful part of Italy.

Six days of self-guided walking in the Cilento National Park which included plenty of opportunities to enjoy swimming in the sea as well. The route App worked very well so there was no 'getting lost' panic in the middle of nowhere. Accommodation was varied - in a good way - and our hosts friendly and helpful.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot holiday makers benefit from being able to talk to employees who have completed the walks so it's easy to get very well informed information about the practicalities of the route. The holiday company also makes sure that their area representative is on hand locally should any problems occur. We have used On Foot on four occasions and can highly recommend them. In short we wouldn't contemplate a self-guided walking holiday with anyone else.

Challenging and rewarding experience on the Alpes Maritimes route

On Foot Holidays is an exceptionally thorough walking tour provider. Every detail that can be planned in advance is clearly and meticulously presented in an excellent app that also addresses factors beyond their control - weather, trail conditions, hiker capabilities - often with firm guidance. The Alpes Maritimes route offered a variety of scenery and discoveries. We visited tiny villages, roman ruins, a limestone kiln, shepherd huts, olive orchards, water falls, and more. We hiked through aromatic Spanish broom and wild sage, shady forests and tall grasses. The trails were flat, steep, smooth, rocky, dirt, scree, pavement, narrow, wide, overgrown and clear. The accommodations were top notch - comfortable lodging, outstanding (and plentiful) food and gracious hosts who knew exactly how to make the evening respites and morning breakfasts as enjoyable and restorative as needed. We learned so much about the people and history of this region, and about ourselves. Though we were more than prepared for the arduous climbing and walking, we lacked experience navigating rocky, overgrown paths and had occasional difficulties with wayfinding. That and the high temperatures slowed and discouraged us at first. We adapted, though, and became more prepared (water and food) and skilled (interpreting trail signs, pushing through brush and navigating scree). "Challenging and rewarding" is a phrase we've seen used to describe the Alpes Maritimes holiday, and it is both of those indeed.

On Foot Holidays was exceptionally attentive and responsive throughout the experience - as we were exploring the possibility of this holiday, as we were planning the details of our adventure and during the days on the trail.

Exceptional Way to See Italy

Final day of our walk - what an epic adventure! Walked 68km total along the Amalfi coastline to Sorrento. Final day of our walk - what an epic adventure! Walked 68km total along the Amalfi coastline to Sorrento. I could not more highly recommend @onfootholidays if you’re wanting to do some walking through Europe or England. We have loved the independent nature of the walks and not seeing many other people - today we walked 15km and did not see a single other person. But, and here’s the cool thing - we always ended up at really cool and hip places and stayed in nice 3-star hotels. The walks were challenging and interesting. Scenery was off the hook! We really felt like we’d got off the tourist trail and seen the essence of the Italian landscape. Walked from Amalfi to Sorrento. This provided some epic mountainous traverses and ended up at the seaside where we could swim. Actually, we swam almost every day in the sea. Out of 5 days walking, we didn’t see any other walkers on 4 days. How special to be walking a trail by yourself. Onto the next part of our adventure tomorrow ❤️

Delightful Amalfi Coast walk

We spent 10 days walking around Amalfi and along the coast to Sorrento. The walk was delightful, the hotels were very comfortable, food was great. There were many steps but the walking was not that hard.

On-Foot Holidays organized the walks and hotels and provided extensive information about the region and transportation options, as well as the route maps and directions for the walk. They were great to work with, very responsive and clear in their communication. We are extremely pleased with their organization of our walk.

Classic Slovenia by Judith the Travelling Kiwi, 24 Jun 2025

First time using On Foot for our holiday and it was a great experience.

We did one small walk based in Kranjske Gora Slovenia and then a longer walk called Classic Slovenia. We have done walking holidays before but not with On Foot. My husband has a dodgy knee so that restricted his walking capacity but On Foot accommodated that really well by allowing him to travel with the luggage a couple of times. My husband has a dodgy knee so that restricted his walking capacity but On Foot accommodated that really well by allowing him to travel with the luggage a couple of times. Great service and very nice taxi drivers along the way. Accommodation was generally of a high standard and we stayed in family run places that went above and beyond with service and food provided. A great cross section of places to visit to give a good overview of Slovenia. Also their walking app was pretty good with some minor quirks that will probably be ironed out pretty quickly. Can’t recommend them high enough.

Rating for tour operator:

In Slovenia Miha was our contact. Very well organised and prompt with his pick ups. When he couldn’t do it the people he used instead were also on time and very informative. Miha was also very responsive the one time we had an issue contacting a place we were staying at and the problem was sorted very easily.

A self guided walk through a little visited part of Spain. It was a very beautiful hike through wooded paths, vineyards and alongside Gorges with stunning views and virtually no other travellers. The food was exceptional throughout the trip and the locals very friendly and helpful.

We walked through hills, towns, olive groves and grapevines that reminded us of Tuscany and explored an old deserted village with stories still to tell. We stopped for lunch beside shady overgrown creeks and gentle waterfalls. Our hosts were friendly and served up outstanding meals. We had a rest day and took a cooking class overseen by a real-life no-nonsense Italian Nonna, We saw an old abbey in a lively town where we stopped to have a spritz. We climbed an overgrown hill and explored the crumbling, deserted ruins of yet another abbey with far off views of Rome. In all ,a lovely walking holiday.

This is the 8th Walking Holiday we've taking with On Foot Holidays and we've always had excellent trips, communication and accommodations. Their routes are well and thoughtfully designed with options to shorten or lengthen as desired. Love the flexibility and sensitivity toward their clients. Our only problem is that we can't decide which Walk to do NEXT.
