Self guided walking in the Alpes Maritimes

We spent 5 days hiking in the Alpes Maritimes. We spent 5 days hiking in the Alpes Maritimes. Everything was booked for us by On Foot: the hotels and bed and breakfasts that we stayed at (mostly half board, with packed lunches provided); the transportation of our luggage between hotels so that we only had to carry a day bag on our hikes; the routes planned in meticulous detail and a delivered via a GPS enabled app which was very easy to follow. The organisation was excellent, as was the choice of hotels and hosts at each stop. And we loved that as well as keeping us on our routes (the app beeped at us if we started to stray from the path!) we were given loads of interesting information as we went on - the history of the area, the flora and fauna, geology etc. Hotels chosen were modest but clean, welcoming and generally with excellent food.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot planned the holiday really well, with lots of contact beforehand, but a very light touch when we were actually on the holiday so that we were able to enjoy ourselves without feeling part of a tour. They also responded well to the odd problem that occurred, both with the local contact and the office staff back home.

Dolomites Done & Dusted

We did the 6 night Dolomites hike first week of July 2025, with one night staying in a Refuge. The weather was amazing, a little rain on day one about 3km from finish but otherwise amazing. The hikes accommodation was nothing short of wonderful and the hike was out of this world especially day climbing to the Tre Cime. Wonderful memories and highly recommended.

We have used On Foot Holidays once before and so impressed with the hike and their attention to detail that we were only going to use them when we wanted to do the Dolomites. They are so organised, helpful and easy to use that we have had no issues for either hike and have recommended them to others who are now using them. Amazing job On Foot Holidays- keep up the great work. Thanks so much you made this part of the holiday easy.

Dordogne with On Foot by MNhiker, 7 Aug 2025

Charming and unforgettable in Dordogne

Four of us in our 70's (all experienced hikers in reasonably good shape) did the 7 night/6 day Dordogne trip. We did it early May 2025 and the flowers everywhere are a bonus hiking at that time. The route was so lovely, the towns so charming, the food everywhere was very good. Not a touristy part of the Dordogne except Rocamadour and the Gauffre de Padirac, both of which are worth it anyways. The hikes were varied and hard enough but not ...

The route was so lovely, the towns so charming, the food everywhere was very good. Not a touristy part of the Dordogne except Rocamadour and the Gauffre de Padirac, both of which are worth it anyways. The hikes were varied and hard enough but not crazy hard. We liked the option, on a couple of the long hikes, to hire the bags driver to take us partway. The first couple of hotels were more modest but clean and in great locations and friendly hosts. The last 4 hotels were very nice, elegant but not fussy. Belcastel was a special treat. We wished we had booked an extra night there to spend a little more time enjoying it and relaxing before moving on. Highly recommend!

Rating for tour operator:

This was my 6th European self-guided hiking trip and the 4th tour operator. OnFoot was the best of all I have experienced. Their response time, helpfulness, great route and lodging, willingness to meet some special requests, were outstanding. Their app is very user-friendly but also detailed and comprehensive. I loved that meals were included many nights - one less thing to worry about after a day of hiking.

A fabulous adventure in this unspoilt, dramatic part of Greece.

This north west corner of Greece, bordering with Albania, is home to some truly dramatic scenery with the majestic Vikos Gorge at it's centre. Some of the hiking is rugged and elemental with sections of scrambling and scrabbling and then some is along gentle wooded paths into small villages where you are greeted with warmth by locals. It still felt undiscovered and the journey to get there is part of the experience. We did all the hiking options, ...

We were are group of 6 and it is the 3rd time we have travelled with On Foot. They arranged bespoke travel for us to and from Igounitsa and made recommendations for hotels for onward travel. The hiking instructions, maps and app, were all excellent and easy to use. Everyone you speak to in the office always seems to be up to date with your particular trip with first hand experience of individual locations.

We’ve just returned from the Lighthouse Way in Galicia – our second trip with On Foot Holidays – and once again, it was simply outstanding. What impressed us most is how carefully and thoughtfully the walk is put together. From the route itself to the selection of places to stay, everything is curated with a quiet intelligence. There’s this "invisible guiding hand" that accompanies you all the way – through the app, the printed materials, and the local host, who adds depth and local context in just the right moments. It never feels over-managed, but you always feel looked after. We especially appreciated the flow of the days: the balance between effort and reward, the rhythm of walking and arriving. The accommodation was full of character, the food generous (even for a vegetarian, like Andrea), and the contact with locals felt genuine and unforced. After two On Foot trips, we’ve come to realise: this has become our favourite kind of holiday. Moving through a landscape on foot, at our own pace – but with everything thoughtfully prepared behind the scenes. It’s a rare combination of independence and care. Warm thanks to the On Foot team and to our fantastic local host Aznar, whose quiet presence and support were invaluable.

Rating for tour operator:

With On Foot Holidays, it always feels like you’re in touch with friends – friendly, relaxed, and at the same time highly competent. The communication is personal, clear, and often comes with a good dose of British humour. You can tell they know and love their routes, but there’s no fuss about it – just quiet confidence and a real sense of care. For us, that’s a big part of what makes these holidays so enjoyable.
