On Foot Holidays - Tuscany by Canuck, 5 Nov 2013
Holiday Rating:

Exhilarating

We hiked daily between 6 towns in Tuscany with our luggage picked up daily & transported to our next hotel. The route was well chosen, avoiding traffic & generally following tracks through the beautiful Tuscan landscape, Often, we could imagine we were medieval wayfarers approaching the hillside town. Accommodation was good & of course the food was exceptional.

On foot holidays were very accommodating. I have no complaints. In discussing another walking tour with me they have pointed out potential problems.

Walkig the Lycian Way

A week of walking through the spectacular countryside and along the coast of SW Turkey, passing through the ancient, ruined cities of Phaselis and Olympos and ending in the bustling city of Antalya. A great combination of exercise and culture. The walking was enjoyably moderately strenuous in parts, on well marked tracks, with very few others on the track. Perfect!

Very efficient and responsive to any questions. Definitely felt that we received individual attention and help with arrangements specific to our needs. On the ground support in Turkey was excellent. The walking guide information was accurate, thorough and everything we needed.

A memorable and very beautiful journey through a hidden landscape

A walking trip through woods and mountains in the Priorat region of Spain, with visits to fascinating monasteries and stays in sleepy towns and villages. Fabulous wines and great walking, with interesting places to stay, and stunning landscape. Strenuous walking, but a hugely enjoyable experience.

Very friendly and efficient to deal with, this felt like an organisation with a real interest in its customers. Really excellent maps and walking directions, and a good level of information about the area.

Rural retreat in Italy

We thoroughly enjoyed the walking each day - achievable, but challenging enough to feel we had earned our excellent dinner! The scenery was breathtaking with some especially memorable viewpoints along the way. It was a delight to be in the unspoiled countryside, away from urban pressures. Some days we saw no other people - only cows! The food was fantastic - we didn't know how many courses to expect and the food just kept arriving - bliss! ...

The hosts were delightful and made us very welcome. An excellent holiday and one we would recommend to anyone with a love of walking.

Well researched, well described and well organised walks. Excellent pre-holiday information and service - our slightest query was answered thoroughly and with courtesy. On Foot had taken a great deal of trouble to choose unusual and welcoming places to stay, with excellent food and attention to detail throughout. It was very reassuring to know that we had a local contact who was keeping in touch with our hosts each night, so that we would have been missed had we failed to arrive! This was our third holiday with On Foot, and we look forward to booking more.

Dorset - The Thomas Hardy Trail

We spent a week walking through Dorset from Salisbury to Lyme Regis following in the foot steps of Thomas Hardy. On Foot Holidays arranged the route and pre booked our accommodations. They met with us the first night and provided us with maps, written directions, a compass and a cell phone. The accommodations they arranged were excellent Bed and Breakfasts or small Inns. All in all it was a superb holiday.

Very well organized company

We hiked along the Amalfi Coast using On Foot Holidays as our tour company. We had looked at a number of other companies before choosing On Foot. Ultimately we chose them because we liked their route better (it involved some longer and more challenging hikes - which we preferred), and because the route was designed by the person who wrote the hiking guide book to the area. Ultimately we chose them because we liked their route better (it involved some longer and more challenging hikes - which we preferred), and because the route was designed by the person who wrote the hiking guide book to the area. We loved the trip. It was breathtakingly scenic. We also liked having a choice of hotels in each of the towns. All of our hotels were wonderful - extremely clean and comfortable. In addition, we thought that On Foot Holiday's descriptions of the hikes and the topography of the area was very precise and accurate. We would definitely book with On Foot Holidays again.

Rating for tour operator:

Our tour operator was extremely helpful in answering all of our questions. We spoke by telephone to her a few times before finalizing our plans, mainly with regard to hotel choices on the trip. We also appreciated how responsive she was to our email inquiries.

From the Alps to the Mediterranean - adventure with reassurance

My brother (70) and I (80) walked from La Brigue to Menton, mainly on mountain tracks. Overnights were in interesting historic towns and villages, with a rest day in Sospel where, in the morning, my brother sketched and I explored the old part of the town. Overnights were in interesting historic towns and villages, with a rest day in Sospel where, in the morning, my brother sketched and I explored the old part of the town. In the afternoon we visited the impressive subterranean Maginot Line fort. The overnight accommodation was varied but, in every case, of very good value for the money. The food was excellent and the packed lunches a challenge! Finishing in style at the Princess et Richmond in Menton was a real bonus! The backup from On Foot Holidays was excellent and their support pack removed any anxiety we might have felt at being on our own. Route timings were realistic.

From our first enquiry we found Debbie and Simon to be extremely helpful and informative. They assisted with our travel plans and were willing to customise the walk in way to suit us. It was great to talk to them on the phone (we are in New Zealand) and hear that they had actually done the walk themselves. Their enthusiasm was inspiring. All the contact was professional and timely.
