Alpes Maritime walking holiday

A well organised and highly enjoyable 7 day September walk down the Roya valley in South Eastern France. A well organised and highly enjoyable 7 day September walk down the Roya valley in South Eastern France. Around 5-6 hours moderate walking each day, from the Alpine foothills down to the Mediterranean at Menton. It's not all downhill, with some stiff climbs. Never boring, with fine scenery, tiny stone villages, and a slightly remote atmosphere. The rural hotels were typically average but very welcoming and comfortable for the weary walkers, and a very comfortable hotel at the end! The organisation ran like clockwork. We'd happily do another walk in the region, and would certainly be very happy to use On Foot Holidays again.

Rating for tour operator:

The website is extremely clear and simple - no extraneous waffle - and says exactly what you need to know. The small team was very efficient, and it felt as if we were dealing with friends who knew what was going on and really wanted to help. They were completely flexible in dealing with our requests. This all followed through into the documentation and the organisation on the ground. All accurate and highly efficient. Overall, we thought this was by some distance the best walking company we have ever used, and a pleasure to deal with them.

Exquisite scenery in the South of France accompanied by beautiful villages and great food.

Having done the Wainwright Coast to Coast in 2013 my wife and looked for another self guided walk for 2014. We found OnFoot Holidays and chose their Alpes-Maritimes walk. The route instructions, and the route itself, were superb. Communication with them at all times before the walk could not be faulted. Accommodation was comfortable without being lavish. Well Planned, Good Food, Excellent Accommodation

We walked from Contigliano in the Sabine Hills north of Rome to Mompeo using forest trails, old logging roads and sometimes country roads passing through small villages, old fortified towns and farmlands but a lot of the walk was along scenic trails through and over the Sabine Hills. We stayed at small B & B's and tourist farms. The accommodation provided in each place was excellent and we enjoyed home cooked food. We could not fault the directions, maps and other information given to us and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Rating for tour operator:

They were extremely easy to deal with and they always responded quickly to any queries we had and provided all the information we wanted. We also had the feeling that they would always be there to help us if we ran into any problems. It was a pleasure doing business with them.

Wonderful holiday in Southern Tuscany

We had a great time walking between the hill top towns amid stunning scenery, following the detailed instructions provided. We enjoyed the variety of accommodation booked for us and had fun exploring the old towns and sampling the tasty food and drink.

A wonderful walk in Catalonia

We walked in the Garroxta area of Catalonia with On Foot Holidays for 7 days from Beguda north west of Girona airport to Olot, staying at hotels, hostals and a farmhouse. On Foot provided the organisation, and arranged accommodation and luggage transfer. We walked through fantastic scenery including extinct volcanoes, towering cliffs, rivers and pastures. A great way to get away from everything and everyone with comfortable overnight stays.

Rating for tour operator:

We couldn't fault On Foot's organisation, indeed they went beyond what we expected and there were no hitches at all. Their local rep in Besalu went out of his way to help when I broke a tooth on day one. He located a dentist in Figueres and drove me there and back. All the accommodations were excellent, each having its own special appeal. Luggage transfer were efficient. It left us to enjoy the walk without any worries. We also appreciated On Foot's GPX files of the walk so on the few occasions we were unsure of the trail, we could establish our position relative to the trail and make the necessary correction.

The hotels were very good, central and often with good views or lovely roof terraces to enjoy at the end of the day. The walking was very interesting, scenic and varied. At the beginning there were lots of steps to walk with less so on the last few days, so need to be prepared for that. We combined the walking with a couple of beach days and a boat trip to Capri, visit to Pompeii and Herculaneum and Vesuvius which made it a very varied holiday.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays (we dealt with Mary) were excellent. They were very professional, prompt with organisation, patient with my different and individual requests to change the itinerary. The paperwork, maps and information was very good, together with up to date bus timetables for the areas and useful local information. The route directions were typed in large type so glasses were not necessary and although nothing went wrong, we felt if it had, they would have sorted it with no problem. Our local taxi driver for airport transfer was friendly and efficient, so we used him for a private car to get round Pompeii and Herculaneum and Vesuvius all on one day which the larger tours don't do. We would definitely use them again.
