A lovely day in the South Downs learning about wild flowers

We had a lovely day learning about wild flowers of the South Downs at various sites around Lewes. We took this day trip last year in August and were delighted to meet up again with the Course Leader Paul Harmes. He was very supportive of our efforts as beginners with wild flowers, and taught us a great deal. Thank you Paul and Nature Trek for another great day out in this beautiful area.

Great scenery

Our tour leader 'Mat Capper' was very knowledgeable and informative, his knowledge of the wildlife and surrounding environment was first rate. He was able to hear and pick out birds from quite a distance. It was a very enjoyable day but tiring for me at 69.

Rare Mammals of South Africa

Two week trip to the Kalahari/Kimberly region. It was a safari with Naturetrek to search for rare nocturnal mammals. Had a fantastic time and sa Aardwolf, Aardvark, Zorilla and amazing sightings of 2 Leopards, just to name a few. Food and accommodation top rate with a wonderful guide.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek have many years of running specialist worldwide nature tours. They employ only highly experienced guides, both locally based and from the UK. Their office organisation is excellent and all enquiries are promptly dealt with, and I have confidence in them being able to sort out any problems, small or serious, on the tour. The vehicles they hire are in very good condition and I feel safe with the style of driving. The accommodation used is appropriate and there is always plenty of good food & water available.

Loved every Minute

Bird watching tour with Nature Trek in Mallorca. Never been there before and was delighted with the birds seen. Our guide was excellent quickly spotting birds and telling us all about them. Our accommodation was comfortable and the food really delicious. The location of the hotel (Pollentia) was the best bit as it was next to the L'Albfretta reserve allowing us to bird watch from a hide or viewing platform before breakfast and in the evening.

Our tour operator was an experienced birder and extremely caring of our small group, two of which were in their 80s. He knew all the best places to go and bird watch and was an excellent driver.

Wonderful wildlife, so many different birds and flowers in the Donana capped by watching a rare lynx for five minutes or so. Golden Orioles, nightingales and larks singing everywhere we went, and the beautiful bee eaters flitting about. Then up to Extramadura to the central plains for four comfortable nights in the middle of no where. Again highly varied habitats. Steppes with a huge variety of birds with the very great privilege of seeing the Great Bustard displaying. Rock faces holding many raptors’ nests with griffon vultures soaring on the thermals and actually flying close in below us so we could see them from above. Bright blue rock thrushes, handsome black storks. Add to that the wonderful woodland with the soft new growth of the downy oak relieving the dark of the evergreen cork and holm oaks. Golden orioles and yet more nightingales singing. Every day brought so many new delights all shared with a great bunch of people and two most exceptional guides.

Rating for tour operator:

Extremely helpful, good information and instructions and had to cope with flight changes. So glad they have survived what must have been a very worrying two years.

An excellent introduction to the Coto Donana and Extremadura areas of Spain, led by extremely knowledgeable and committed guides. A very well organised tour, pleasant rural hotels and excellent picnic lunches. Birding orientated tour but the guides were also very knowledgeable about flowers, reptiles, mammals and local culture contributing to a very enjoyable tour.

I booked this tour before Covid and 'rolled ' it forward twice. Naturetrek's communications were helpful throughout and all problems dealt with, including a flight cancellation shortly before the tour. A good value tour.

Inspirational trim to a farm being managed for wildlife

A one day trip to Eyebrook Wild Bird Foods farm. The managers took us around and explained what and how they manage the farm to protect and increase wildlife. Additionally we had a superb guide who showed us a huge number of different birds and mammals on the farm and at the adjoining Eyebrook reservoir.

Fantastic birding, wildlife and farming day.

This was a guided day around a working farm with wild life and conservation at the heart of it. Our guide was an excellent naturalist and birder so was able to highlight an enormous amount of wildlife. We also learnt a great deal from the farmer about how they farm for wildlife and have diversified into producing and selling a wide range of bird seed.
