The group was full off interesting people who were enthusiastic and positive. We spent 8 days walking through the local countryside, spotting wildlife and plants, eating picnics under shady trees. Every day was a learning day even at our advanced age. Breakfasts were fab. Lunches very authentic and our evening meals although limited in range accommodated all our needs and were traditional and homemade. It was a great week.

WE have used `Naturetrek in the past. They were so accommodating during the pandemic and their brochure and personal service give you all the facts that you need. There seems to be a really friendly touch. They have been under prressure no doubt because of the pandemic and the current problems with airlines cancelling flights but their stresses were never passed on to us.

This privately owned estate offers an insight into an ambitious project to rewild the 23,000 acre landscape and return it to its natural habitat of hundreds of years ago. It is along term project very much in progress which allows you to see wildlife that for many people will be a new and exciting experience. It provides a chance to see the impact of positive human intervention to rectify mistakes of the past and restore habitats that will bring back species that have long disappeared. The scenery is breathtaking with vast spaces, beautiful rugged mountains and crystal clear rivers. The accommodation in the luxurious seven bedroom Alladale lodge offers a level of comfort and hospitality that exceeded expectations. In addition to the days exploring this amazing wilderness reserve, there are day visits to nearby wildlife locations which offer sightings of a wide and varied range of birds and wildlife. It was an absolute privilege to visit this remote part of Scotland.

Rating for tour operator:

This holiday to Alladale in May 2022 was a fortunate stroke of serendipity due to the postponement and eventual cancellation of a planned Naturetrek trip to southern Africa which was postponed in 2021 because of Covid 19 restrictions. Not wishing to risk a further postponement we asked to be transferred to this holiday to Alladale. Naturetrek agreed without any hesitation or fuss which was greatly appreciated. Their organisation and management of such trips are of the highest order with comprehensive information and regular communication. The Naturetrek leader appointed for our stay at Alladale was extremely knowledgeable, brilliant at bird and animal spotting and determined to ensure that every daylight hour was used to best advantage to see Scottish wildlife.

Lots of wildlife and culture on Alderney

It was with Nature Trek, whom I have used before. Alderney proved to be fascinating and full of wildlife and history. Naturetrek provide the type of holidays with special interest that I like. I travel on my own and they always seem to be able to help with any issues that arise or questions I have about the holidays. I have found their descriptions of the tours to be accurate and helpful. I like to know how physically difficult the tours will be as I am of a "certain" age!

Fantastic experience of stars and Nightjars at Farnham Heath - wonderful and very educational evening.

This was a fantastic trip led by David Phillips from Naturetrek. David was very knowledgeable on the nightjar to the point that he knew potential trees and branches where we would get a fantastic view of nightjars. He had his super scope on them quickly so that could then benefit from seeing them far better than through ordinary binoculars. Came away very excited by all I'd seen and importantly heard - churring and wing claps. To finish ...

Naturetrek - well organised; fantastic views and sounds of nightjars! It was a great evening and thanks David.

Good food, good company amazing wildlife experience

Based in the excellent Alladale Wilderness Reserve each day was packed with oppertunities to see wildlife in the company of experts. As a nature based holiday there are no guarantees but I was able to see 101 species 35 of which were new to me, ranging from Redpolls to Goldes Eagles and Red Squirrels to Killer Whales. The Lodge staff couldn't be more helpful or adaptable to the needs of the group.

Rating for tour operator:

We have had two holidays and three day trips with Naturetrek, all of which have been very enjoyable and organised to provide excellent wildlife watching oppertunities. The staff are always helpful and the experts they provide are very knowledgeable without making you feel patronised.
