Relaxing, Interesting and varied

It was a 7 day "Go Slow" holiday in Gran Canaria, running from 22nd to 29th December 2023. The focus was on the variety flora and fauna of the island, together with coverage of its history and topography. We were based for the week in the quieter north west region and set out each day with a particular objective.

The tour was run by Naturetrek who, as their name suggests, specialise in small group holidays that focus on aspects of nature around the world. They offer a very wide range of tours that ought to cover the needs of any traveller who has an interest in the natural world, be that mammals, flowers, insects or many other features.

Botswana Desert & delta

This was a short intense Birding/Wildlife holiday, we where only away 9 days, 2 days to get there, 2days to get back and 5 dawn to dusk days on safari. I that time we saw just about all the mammal's we could see(-Rhino) and the bird tally was 200 plus species.

I have been traveling with Naturetrek for the last 20 years, in the early days we would steal their Itinerates, hire the same guides and stay in the same accommodation, Later when I was pushing 80 we appreciated a slower pace and now having just passed 86, I am thinking of a trip to Central America, with naturetrek off course.

A TaylorMade Holiday in the Gambia and Senegal

I planned the holiday and Naturetrek arranged all including accommodation and flights. I use Naturetrek often they are an excellent wildlife tour company and of course the largest British nature tour company. Most wildlife subjects are covered, not just birding holidays.

Birds and history of Colombia - a colourful combination!

This was an outstanding holiday provided by Naturetrek UK, combining breath-taking landscapes, colourful birds and equally colourful local customs and excellent cuisine. Very diverse and expertly led by both the Naturetrek guide - Robin Smith and the local guides, especially of note Santi and Miguel, the tour delivered a very good overview of the country and its nature.

This is not the first tour that we participate on which is organised by Naturetrek, but it was one of the best to date! It has to be noted that Naturetrek provide consistently good value and excellent content wildlife holidays, which are expertly led by local guides, as well as by the Naturetrek operatives. The accommodation and food were also of very good quality, and the whole organisation was seamless, but once again, a special mention goes to the guides, who made this a very memorable experience!

Birding and Stargazing in rural Alentejo

Birding on saltpans near Lisbon. Stunning views of thousands of Glossy Ibis coming in to land at sunset. Moving like murmurations of starlings. Astronomy with staff from the observatory Dark Sky Alqueva. Great views of Jupiter and it's moons...also the rings of Saturn.

Incredible encounters with some of the best wildlife South Africa has to offer.

We spent a week in and around Kruger National Park. We managed to have fabulous sightings of the Big 5: Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo as well as numerous other birds and mammals. We stayed in camps within Kruger, in small, self-contained huts known as Rondavels. The food we ate during our stay was hearty and delicious, perfect for a long day in the bush looking for wildlife. One of the highlights, besides the beautifully rugged landscape, was waking up to an early morning coffee at 5am before going out as dawn was breaking over the park to see what we could find. Simply wonderful!
