They were very good. All the arrangements worked extremely well, the tour guide was excellent, the accomodation was good, and there was a plan B for when the train was late to get us to the airport on time.

It ticked all the boxes!.

A couple of days exploring the Somerset Levels. The time was very well organized, allowing us to appreciate different areas and maximize our chances of seeing many birds. One reason I chose the holiday was to see the starlings. We saw them come in to roost right in front of us and the sound was amazing.

First time birdwatching on the Somerset levels.

We enjoyed two days of birdwatching in a number of locations on the Somerset levels with a small group of friendly people. Naturetrek provided ample information which helped us to prepare for our holiday. The organisation was faultless and the accommodation excellent. Our tour guides ensured that we got the most out of our time in the field and spent time in the evening reviewing the day's events. We would certainly travel with Naturetrek again.

Best holiday ever!

The itinerary was full-on and very satisfying. I saw lots and lots of wildlife - we scratched grey whales in Laguna San Ignacio, admired breaching/flipper flapping/tail-slapping/spyhopping humpbacks on Gorda Bank, got emotional at the blue whales in the Sea of Cortez, were blown away by bioluminescent dolphins riding the boat's bow wave at night, spotted a whale shark and pilot whales (both unusual in this area), marvelled at tail-walking dolphins, ...

The tour guides - one from NatureTrek and one provided by the boat company - were both excellent, very knowledgeable and very happy to share their knowledge. As this is such a popular holiday, it's important to book very early, so I had been anticipating it for about 18 months; and it did not disappoint. I don't usually repeat holidays, because the world is a big place and my Bucket List is very long - but I would seriously consider taking this trip again; and I would definitely book through NatureTrek as their experience in this area is unsurpassed.

Rating for tour operator:

Despite having a very wide portfolio of tours, NatureTrek provide quite a personal service. Booking is easy, intermediate communications are straightforward, prices are appropriate, and the tours themselves are fantastic for wildlife lovers. I would definitely recommend this company to friends and family.

A fantastic experience

All expectations were exceeded from day 1: each day presented something unique, and a range of wonderful visual and emotional experiences unfurled as the journey along the Baja California coast continued. The crew of Searcher, skippered by Captain Art, provided an unparalleled level of expertise, care and attention to ensure that every wildlife sighting was special, and that every activity was safe.

Excellent attention to detail, provision of information and travel arrangements from the moment of booking. Most importantly, Lee, the Naturetrek naturalist on board, and his fellow professional Rob, could not have been more informative, helpful and above all, passionate about their subjects.

A glimpse of the flora, fauna, on and around the Galapagos Islands

The geology was amazing, though these are not picture postcard South Sea Islands. On land we saw land and marine iguanas, crabs , giant tortoises and identified more than 50 varieties of bird.It was fabulous to be in such close proximity to them , they did not appear to be afraid or feel threatened. In the surrounding ocean we saw orca whales, basking sharks bottle nose dolphins, sea lions, penguins, rays, turtles and countless varieties of fish. It was a privilege to visit this wild life heritage site

We travelled with Naturetrek. They gave us information about travel and what clothes to take, and information about how much walking and how arduous some of the visits were. Food on the boat was of a good standard and plentiful. 1-2 peole were seasick initially, but no tummy upsets of any sort. The local guide/ wildlife expert was fantastic with an indepth knowledge of the geology, flora , fauna, and fishlife and he took photgraphs of the wildlife giving us a labelled copy on a camera chip (Owner Provided)at the conclusion of the trip. Most of each day we spent off the boat

No Whales or Leopards!

First let me say I travelled with Naturetrek because I had a great trip with them to Canada. This trip was titled Blue Whales and Leopards of Sri Lanka. I got back from a very disappointing trip to Sri Lanka and offered to go in to see Naturetrek and share my experiences as I was very worried at the way we tried to view wildlife in Yala national park. First let me say I travelled with Naturetrek because I had a great trip with them to Canada. This trip was titled Blue Whales and Leopards of Sri Lanka. The worst trip I have ever been on and Naturetrek was horrid to deal with. I got back from a very disappointing trip to Sri Lanka and offered to go in to see Naturetrek and share my experiences as I was very worried at the way we tried to view wildlife in Yala national park. They didn't want to know! Very rude I thought. So let me tell you that the hotel we stayed in at Mirissa was witnessed by the group of food being recycled and our rooms being left unlocked everyday, no security! Yala national park experience was over 100 4x4 vehicles in a line to see a leopards tail and another 30+ vehicles trapping an Elephant between them. Our group had to ask to leave the park as we had never been put in a position of viewing wildlife like this. The Blue Whale excursion was equally awful with one distant sighting an 20 boats chasing it. We have also since spoken as a group and found that some of the group had a phone call from the MD and an offer of 10% off the next trip booked while some got very rude letters blaming the weather! Which is it Naturetrek surely all your customers should be treated the same!

Naturetrek responded to this review on 31 Mar 2015:

Miss Robinson chose to travel to Sri Lanka over Christmas 2014, on Naturetrek’s ‘Sri Lanka – Blue Whales & Leopards’ tour. As one might expect, the Christmas period is a busy one, and the national parks and wildlife areas we visit at that time also attract many other tourists from overseas, as well as a great many domestic tourists enjoying the Christmas holiday season. In 2014, some of these areas were particularly conjested because excessive, unseasonal rainfall, the heaviest in 18 years, fell in Sri Lanka during the last 3 weeks of December. This caused extensive flooding in Yala National Park, one of the two main areas included in our tour itinerary, and the network of routes throughout the park that we would normally use was closed. Only the main road through the park was open, to which all the many Christmas visitors were unfortunately confined. It was regrettable, but inevitable, that the heavy rains had such an unwelcome impact on tourism across the country at this time, adversely affecting the operation of many holiday itineraries and spoiling the holiday experience for many overseas visitors. However, for many local villagers, matters were far worse. Tens of thousands of Sri Lankans were displaced from their homes by the effects of these rains, and devastating mudslides killed over 20 people. Given such conditions, no wildlife holiday could have secured the wildlife sightings that one would expect on a holiday blessed with more usual weather conditions. That said, Naturetrek’s expert wildlife guides did their best and, during 3 pelagic voyages, managed to show the group a Blue Whale, three rare Bryde’s Whales, a pod of 50 Risso’s Dolphins (a rare sighting in Sri Lankan waters), two large pods of Spinner Dolphins, turtles, flying fish and wide variety of seabirds, whilst in Yala National Park a wealth of birdlife was enjoyed and a variety of mammals, including Leopard and Asian Elephant – though Miss Robinson was not pleased by the way in which the other tourists, mostly local Sri Lankan visitors, reacted to the sightings of the latter.

Naturetrek responded to this review on 31 Mar 2015:

Upon her return to England, Miss Robinson telephoned the Naturetrek office to complain about her holiday and was asked politely by a senior member of staff to put her concerns in writing so that we might investigate and consider them. She was also offered the opportunity to come to our office and discuss the tour with another senior member of staff who manages our Asia department, but she turned down this offer. When her letter arrived on 10th January, it was answered honestly and fairly by us with a letter posted on 19th January. In our response, a number of suggestions and questions were put to Miss Robinson in an effort to resolve the matter of her unhappiness, inviting her response. No reply from Miss Robinson has been received.
