Birdwatching in Spain
We cant praise the Naturetrk team highly enough. Every detail of the bespoke holiday they created for us was perfect. Their travel arrangements were impeccable. Their guides were knowledgeable, helpful and charming. We shall certainly use Naturetrk again. Lord and Lady Nickson

Ecuador's Mammals - disappointing
This was a new tour for Naturetrek, with mammals rather than birds the prime focus. In practice, birds were given by far the most time, largely because mammals (to quote Naturetrek afterwards) "are shy and retiring in the neotropics, present in low densities, and viewable for only a small percentage of our time in the field". We spent a vast amount of time during our fortnight there stationary, looking in vain for anything on the ground which moved...

In practice, birds were given by far the most time, largely because mammals (to quote Naturetrek afterwards) "are shy and retiring in the neotropics, present in low densities, and viewable for only a small percentage of our time in the field". We spent a vast amount of time during our fortnight there stationary, looking in vain for anything on the ground which moved. Local guides were not used enough, and the best sightings were of mammals who regularly came to feeding stations on the lodges we stayed at. Those other mammals we did see were usually far away; for example, we saw a single tapir for a couple of minutes, viewable only through a scope. Birders would find the tour wonderful, though.

We have used Naturetrek twice before this one. Their organisation and selection of places to stay are generally excellent, and there were no problems at all with this one. The tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable. We wanted to spend a couple of days in Quito before the start of the holiday and this was extremely well organised for us.
We’re very sorry that Mr Adams felt that the mammal sightings achieved on his 'Ecuador’s Mammals' holiday with Naturetrek were poor, and that too much emphasis was given to birdwatching. We are, though, very grateful for his kind comments on our naturalist guides, the accommodation provided and his previous experiences with Naturetrek.
From Naturetrek’s point of view, and that of all other participants on this tour bar two, the holiday (the second one we have operated, after a successful inaugural tour in August 2014) was very successful with regard to the variety and numbers of mammals seen by the group, especially considering how difficult South American mammals can be to see in comparison with the game of east and southern Africa. Mammals seen by the group on this 'Ecuador's Mammals' tour included sightings of such iconic and sought-after species as Spectacled Bear, Mountain Tapir, Giant River Otters and Olinguito - a new species only recently discovered! Additionally the group enjoyed fantastic views of Equatorial Saki Monkey and 6 other species of primates, two species of sloth, three species of squirrel, Tayra, Kinkajou, White-tailed Deer, Black Agouti, Neotropical Otter and two bat species. The area of contention, about which Mr Adams has expressed concern, was how the time was spent between mammal sightings. At such times, as was carefully explained in our detailed pre-tour itinerary sent to all clients on or before booking, group activity focused on birdwatching. Taking Mr Adams' views into consideration, we have taken steps to make this aspect of the holiday even clearer. Our detailed tour itinerary, as well as a previous tour report, can be seen here http://www.naturetrek.co.uk/tour.aspx?id=593

They were both courteous and helpful in ensuring we had an excellent experience on our visit and with their knowledge ensured we learnt as much as possible about the wildlife, flora and fauna we saw. They were also very enthusiastic in sharing our experiences with us particularly our sighting of a tiger. They were so pleased for us. Their organisational skills were such that we did not have any problems and any slight hitches were dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Naturetrek were very efficient in organising our visit to India. Their staff both in the UK and India were always helpful and dealt with us in a cheerful and efficient way, nothing was to much trouble for them. I will recommend them to all my friends.

Ethiopian Endemics
Very good ten-day tour of Ethiopia, covering part of the Rift Valley and the Bale Mountains. Over 300 species of birds, including 20 endemic species, plus good numbers of mammals.

Excellent local guide and driver; accommodation simple but good; food excellent; well organised tour and flights, apart from Addis Ababa airport, which is chaotic.

At dawn with cranes ,a wealth of raptors and searching the canyon walls in search of the elusive wallcreeper
A well organised start landing in Zaragoza arriving in Alquezar, here we searched the canyon walls for the elusive wallcreeper which proved easier than thought up to 4 sightings here and 2 others on nearby areas in the sierras and reservoir canyons. The weather was cold but fine every day except the last.Up close and personal with Griffon vultures was a unique experience a moment to be treasured as a Lammergeier flew over our heads adding a special ...

The search for Duponts lark is hard at -5oc ,just its call prior to dawn and a brief glimpse for some, this bird is always a difficult bird to see. However the cranes at Lagos de Gallocanta showed well at dawn as a hen harrier flew over a wild boar with sentinel like cranes in the early morning frost. An exciting extra was a European Wildcat in the hotel car park and Bonelli's eagle competing for territory with Golden.finally the vistas at El Planeron ended an excellent tour.

Walking and swimming in paradise.
We spent two weeks travelling round the Galapagos Islands in a motorised Yacht with a total of 16 passengers. Both the guide and the chef were outstanding which enhanced the enjoyment. We snorkelled with turtles, sea lions and sharks, as well as shoals of colourful fish. We climbed up to volcanic craters and watched giant tortoises mating. On panga rides we gazed at golden rays swimming in formation and flightless cormorants perched on rocky islands...

On panga rides we gazed at golden rays swimming in formation and flightless cormorants perched on rocky islands. On land we admired male frigate birds inflating their red "throat balloons" to attract females. At every turn there was something to watch and enjoy. What an experience to find birds and other animals which are not afraid of humans! Paradise indeed!

We travelled with Naturetrek who specialise in holidays focussed on wildlife. One of the excellent things about their holidays is the quality of the guides who are not only knowledgable but good at helping one to enjoy and marvel at what one sees. They seem to manage to enable us to see and enjoy a lot without feeling rushed, which is a rare and vital skill. They are also flexible which enables one to take advantage of unexpected opportunities.

Magic
Two weeks touring around the magical Galápagos Islands, unique wildlife, a unique ship with a wonderful helpful and friendly crew - what more can one ask for.
