Wildlife watching in the Forest of Dean

This was a short braek based at Speeches Hotel. Our targets were to see Wild boar, hawfinch and goshawk. All species were seen, with excellent views of the Wild Boar and the Hawfinch. Our leader and co-leader worked very hard and with great skill. The hotel was well located and the accomodation was good with very good food and facilities.

Naturetrek gave me all the information i needed before the trip and have been quick to find out my views afterwards asking for feedback, but also sharing photographs of the species seen. I think the holiday was good value for money.

THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME

My husband and I love nature, and to be able to go on this Naturtrek holiday to Mexico was a dream come true. To see humpback whales has always been on my bucket list, and our boat trips out fulfilled all my dreams. I can now die happy. To see humpback whales has always been on my bucket list, and our boat trips out fulfilled all my dreams. I can now die happy. These two were the highlights of our holiday, but interspersed with these there was ample opportunities to appreciate the huge variety of birds, a trip into the mangroves to see crocodiles etc. It is a holiday neither of us will forget.

Naturtrek provides the traveller with the most amazing experiences. The tour guides, hotels and hotel settings were second to none. The travel arrangements were excellent. All information on the trip was forwarded well in advance of departure giving details of what to pack and what vaccinations to have. They provided the most amazing guide in Mexico who couldn't do enough to make our holiday memorable. Naturtrek's guide, David, was also on hand to assist where necessary. My husband and I would not hesitate in recommending Naturtrek, and we have every intention of travelling with the company again.

culture and birds what a combination!

New experience of going on Eurostar, very easy. A good time in Bruges learning about the history and seeing wonderful architecture. Fantastic varied birding spots including penduline tit, middle spotted a black woodpecker. A lifer, nutcracker. Two very knowledgeable guides who could instruct on bird song and call and being able to hear hawfinch on a daily basis, and getting to grips with short-toed and common treecreeper. Wolf tracking in Sweden

This was an amazing trip looking for the tracks and signs of wolves with a outline of how they travel and love within packs. The tour was conducted by an excellent local guide called Anders. Our experience was not only about wolves the landscape and nature of mid Sweden. We under took our walks by snow shoe which was amazing and allowed us to visit areas not accessible on foot. I would recommend the tour to anyone with a sense of adventure.

Enthusiastic, customer focused and knowledgeable tour leaders

On a Sri Lanka Wildlife and History tour, the Naturetrek tour leaders provided a wealth of information about the history, culture and wildlife as well as going the extra mile in ensuring that the tour members were all able to maximise the bird and other wildlife sightings. A very well organised tour.

All three consisted of different habitats and every day guided tours were arranged with the emphasis on seeing the very wide variety of bird life that is present in the country. Many mammals and reptiles were also seen and every opportunity was taken to enjoy all parts of the parks. The guides were of very high quality and went to great lengths to please all tour members and keep everybody interested. The camp, while understandably simple, were clean, efficiently run and all staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and varied. Interspersed with the visits to the reserves we also spent a few nights in Kathmandu. This provided interesting variety and allowed us to leave much of our luggage in storage rather than carry everything all around the country. All in all a very enjoyable and well thought-out holiday.

Ecuador's Mammals - disappointing

This was a new tour for Naturetrek, with mammals rather than birds the prime focus. In practice, birds were given by far the most time, largely because mammals (to quote Naturetrek afterwards) "are shy and retiring in the neotropics, present in low densities, and viewable for only a small percentage of our time in the field". We spent a vast amount of time during our fortnight there stationary, looking in vain for anything on the ground which moved...

We spent a vast amount of time during our fortnight there stationary, looking in vain for anything on the ground which moved. Local guides were not used enough, and the best sightings were of mammals who regularly came to feeding stations on the lodges we stayed at. Those other mammals we did see were usually far away; for example, we saw a single tapir for a couple of minutes, viewable only through a scope. Birders would find the tour wonderful, though.

Rating for tour operator:

We have used Naturetrek twice before this one. Their organisation and selection of places to stay are generally excellent, and there were no problems at all with this one. The tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable. We wanted to spend a couple of days in Quito before the start of the holiday and this was extremely well organised for us.

Naturetrek responded to this review on 16 Mar 2015:

We’re very sorry that Mr Adams felt that the mammal sightings achieved on his 'Ecuador’s Mammals' holiday with Naturetrek were poor, and that too much emphasis was given to birdwatching. We are, though, very grateful for his kind comments on our naturalist guides, the accommodation provided and his previous experiences with Naturetrek.

From Naturetrek’s point of view, and that of all other participants on this tour bar two, the holiday (the second one we have operated, after a successful inaugural tour in August 2014) was very successful with regard to the variety and numbers of mammals seen by the group, especially considering how difficult South American mammals can be to see in comparison with the game of east and southern Africa. Mammals seen by the group on this 'Ecuador's Mammals' tour included sightings of such iconic and sought-after species as Spectacled Bear, Mountain Tapir, Giant River Otters and Olinguito - a new species only recently discovered! Additionally the group enjoyed fantastic views of Equatorial Saki Monkey and 6 other species of primates, two species of sloth, three species of squirrel, Tayra, Kinkajou, White-tailed Deer, Black Agouti, Neotropical Otter and two bat species. The area of contention, about which Mr Adams has expressed concern, was how the time was spent between mammal sightings. At such times, as was carefully explained in our detailed pre-tour itinerary sent to all clients on or before booking, group activity focused on birdwatching. Taking Mr Adams' views into consideration, we have taken steps to make this aspect of the holiday even clearer. Our detailed tour itinerary, as well as a previous tour report, can be seen here http://www.naturetrek.co.uk/tour.aspx?id=593

They were both courteous and helpful in ensuring we had an excellent experience on our visit and with their knowledge ensured we learnt as much as possible about the wildlife, flora and fauna we saw. They were also very enthusiastic in sharing our experiences with us particularly our sighting of a tiger. They were so pleased for us. Their organisational skills were such that we did not have any problems and any slight hitches were dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek were very efficient in organising our visit to India. Their staff both in the UK and India were always helpful and dealt with us in a cheerful and efficient way, nothing was to much trouble for them. I will recommend them to all my friends.
