One of our best trips with Natretrek

Our trip to South Africa in February including several days in the Kruger National Park was one of our best: the weather was wonderful from beginning to end - a treat coming at this time of year for us Brits - and the range of wildlife we saw was a thrill, with 300 species of birds and nearly a full house of the big five as well.

All the arrangements worked well, with good vehicles, serviceable hotels and food and a first rate guide who really made the trip for us.

Baja California - whale watching

A unique holiday, experienced by a very few on an annual basis, to watch whales off the coast of Baja California. This included a stay in San Ignacio Lagoon where Grey Whales mate and give birth. We experienced a few mother and calves approaching our pangas and allowing us to touch and stroke them - absolutely amazing. Overall we saw 10 species of whales and dolphins including Blue Whales with calves and Humpback whales breaching. We also saw Northern Elephant Seals and the rare Guadalupe Fur Seals. In addition there were lots of birds and some interesting reptiles to appreciate. Another special experience was snorkelling with California Sea Lions at Los Islottes. We travelled on a sports fishing boat with a fantastic crew who were all just as enthusiastic as we were. We had a nature briefing each evening which was very informative. The quality of food provided by our chef was of an excellent standard - as well as the accompanying music. It was a very, very special holiday. There was no opportunity to get bored!

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek is very professional providing all the necessary information upfront and answering any additional questions we may have had in advance of the trip. Our tour leader was excellent. He was extremely enthusiastic and his knowledge was first rate. His relationship with the boat crew was first class which made for a brilliant experience. This is the second time that we have travelled with Naturetrek.

A fantastic experience

This was my first safari holiday and I can understand why friends encouraged me to visit Tanzania, I had a memorable time and intend to go back there again in the near future, the itinerary was well thought out and our driver/ guides were brilliant with superb knowledge of the animals and the terrain. All in all I would recommend this trip to anybody thinking of visiting Africa.

I have travelled with Naturetrek a number of times and as before I was very impressed with the way this trip was organised, the trip guide was born in Tanzania and had a wide ranging knowledge of the country and the flora and fauna. The accomadition was first class I espically enjoyed the tented camp we stayed in which was a late choice instead of a lodge. I am going on a further trip with Naturetrek to Alaska in July, and would not hesitate to recommend this company to anybody wishing to try a wildlife based trip in the future.

Borneo wildlife spectacular

Fascinating insight into the natural world of Borneo. Mammals, birdlife, insects ,reptiles and amphibians not to mention plant life and an understanding of the tensions between industrial progress and protecting the natural world.

Accommodation was mostly in rural lodges with the sound of Africa all around us, plus restaurants and usually a small swimming pool to relax by in the afternoons. the Forest of Dean

An excellent weekend experiencing the wildlife of this ancient forest, in the company of a small group of like-minded enthusiasts, and with knowledgeable, helpful leaders.

Iceland spectacular

Visited Iceland with Naturtrek. Looking for the Northern Lights and whales. We saw the lights twice thanks to our guide amd was really lucky to see killer whales. We also saw various other wildlife including White tailed eagles, snow buntings, to name but a few. Our hotels were lovely and the people were very welcoming. Flights were with Iceland air, which was Ok apart from having to buy something to eat.

An extremely interesting tour

The tour was well organised with excellent hotels and cuisine and we were very successful in seeing the monarch butterfly migration, almost unbelievable, wonderful birdlife and two very interesting whale watching trips.

Dave was an excellent organiser and expert bird man, I believe he had the younger members out of bed at 6am each morning for birding!

Everything was arranged to gIve the tour group the best possible opportunities to experience the Northern Lights and Gyrfalcons. Gyrfalcons were plentiful - the Aurora not so much! A brief glimpse on one night was all we got, but being outside in the middle of the night under a sky so full of stars it felt as if we could reach up and touch them - what an experience!

Rating for tour operator:

This was my fourth tour with Naturetrek, my previous trips all being to Africa. Iceland was obviously going to be very different but the sheer professionalism of the day-by-day organisation was up to Naturetrek's usual impeccably high standards. EVERYTHING was pre-arranged so all I had to do was be in the right place at the right time. Within the structure of each day were meal breaks, comfort stops, opportunities for photography and walking and all of it carefully timetabled to make sure we kept on schedule but without being rushed. Our guide was affable, knowledgeable and very obviously aware of our wishes and requirements. Our safety was also obviously of the utmost importance to him and his skill at coping with icy roads and drifting snow meant we could relax and just enjoy the scenery. I would definitely recommend Naturetrek yet again. First class.
