Fantastic itinery and very professional tour leaders and guides

Peru - Macaws and Machu Picchu. This holiday was the perfect blend of wildlife and culture for us and we will definitely return to Peru. Naturetrek has never let us down in terms of their vast knowledge of the countries we wish to visit. We are mainly birders, wildlife enthusiasts but have a vast interest in insects, plants, trees and much more. Each trip we have been on their guides and tour leaders have been very knowledgeable and have definitely enhanced the trip. This must be due to Naturetreks dedication to researching exactly what the clients needs and interests are and how to put a tour together safely incorporating local knowledge in the specific country.

An enjoyable mix of culture and wildlife in pleasant, knowledgeable company.

A wildlife (largely bird-watching) trip to both the Spanish and Moroccan sides of the Straits of Gibraltar to observe the autumn bird migration.

Spring flora of the Western Cape

A small group (11+NT Botanist) in 2 x12-seater minibuses (so plenty of room to move around and for our gear). Up the Western Cape to Springbok and back to Cape Peninsula, 6 accommodations in different floral areas, mostly 'quirky' and great to get closer to the locals than you can in the average hotel. Up the Western Cape to Springbok and back to Cape Peninsula, 6 accommodations in different floral areas, mostly 'quirky' and great to get closer to the locals than you can in the average hotel. Two local driver/guides who looked after us very well (NT have used the same ground operator for many years, I have travelled to SA a number of times with NT and the local driver guides have always been excellent). We saw a wondrous array of flowers, and did not ignore the birds, mammals, insects and other wildlife - we always had time to look at things the clients wanted to look at. When I get home from a trip like that I edit and send a 'daily diary and photo journal' to my friends and relatives, who enjoy that as much as I enjoy re-living the experience.

I've travelled many times with Naturetrek, not only to South Africa - going round the Galapagos in a motor sailing boat was definitely a major lifetime experience. They have always been very helpful, and are happy to book my connecting domestic flights on the same ticket so that my luggage goes through - unlike Saga, who always make me collect it and rebook it, which is hard on me as I am now all-too rapidly nearing 80 years of age.

Fantastic experience of Peru and Ecuador

Naturetrek organised an itinerary for me for 2 months exploring Peru and Ecuador, including the Galapagos Islands. The trip was partly me joining an existing tour in Peru, and partly tailor-made on mainland Ecuador, plus a fortnight on a small cruise ship in the Galapagos Archipelago.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek did a great job putting together a brilliant and varied itinerary in Peru and Ecuador, sampling the Amazonian rainforest, the Andean cloud-forest, Cusco + Macchu Piccu, and other Inca sites, plus in Ecuador the city of Cuenca, the vulcanoes Cotopaxi and Chimborazo, and the Galapagos Archipelago.

Having lost my father this year and losing my enthusiasm for birding , this holiday and in particular the guides enthusiasm has re-lit my enjoyment of my love for birds.

Great sightings of Jaguars and other wildlife.

We stayed at Pouso Alegre, SouthWild Flotel, and SouthWild Pantonal Lodge. All were good, food was excellent with plenty of choice. The star sighting was a very accommodating mother jaguar and cub - but we had very good sightings of different jaguars each day on the river, and an exciting interaction on the last afternoon between a jaguar and a tapir. The trip to see Maned wolves was also successful and worthwhile. We had excellent views of an Ocelot at SouthWild Pantonal Lodge on both evenings there. We also saw a giant anteater by spotlight. at Pouso Alegre. The birdlife was prolific at each of these venues., including Hyacinth Macaw and Jabiru Stork. We also had excellent views of other wildlife - Giant River Otters, Giant Anteater, Capybara, Tapir, Yacare Caiman and various kinds of monkey, foxes, deer and tortoise.

Wonderful Iberian wildlife

In September we went on a two centre holiday with Naturetrek as part of a small group plus guides, visiting mountain regions in Calabria and Somiedo Natural Park in Spain. Thrilled to see Iberian wolves, chamois and other wildlife, all from a respectful distance with experienced local guides. Great food and accommodation too. Plus transport by ferry and road, so hopefully a bit better for the carbon footprint than flying.
