Beautiful Butterflies and wonderful scenery

Comfortable accommodation set on the edge of a small village in the foothills of the Pyrenees with its own wildflower meadow and beautiful views. Knowledgeable guides who drove us many miles to even more superb scenery and butterflies.

Rating for tour operator:

I have travelled abroad with Nature Trek only twice so far and both times the trip has been very well organised with excellent pre-trip information and a person at the end of a phone if need be. The locations are always well research with very experienced guides who obviously know the area and its people well. The accommodation and food are of a very high standard.

Birdwatching in the New Forest

Every effort was made to maximise the number of birds seen, and to ensure that everybody got a good view. Hotel was comfortable and the staff were friendly.

Amazing St Kilda and Island trip

A boat off the island off the west coast of Scotland. One of the many highlights was a visit to the remote Islands of St Kilda. Breathing taking scenery and wildlife. Another highlight was the island of Lunga to watch the beautiful puffins. They were so close and didn’t seemed bothered by us. I could watch them fly back to the nests with sand eels in their mouths. Watching and hearing the seals play and bask in the sun on Oransay was amazing...

Watching and hearing the seals play and bask in the sun on Oransay was amazing. The landscapes are very different in the islands with sheer cliffs, mountains, sandy beaches, lush forested areas, hills, fields with an array of wild flowers, small bays to wide open seas and big skies. The history of the islands are fascinating. The people we met were so friendly and welcoming. Just a stunning are to visit and experience despite the weather. The food was excellent.

Naturetrek is a great tour operator. Information about the holidays are very informative and staff are always so helpful with answering any questions. Everyone working for Naturetrek are knowledgeable and passionate about the holidays with experts as tour guides. Booking is so easy and everything needed for the holiday is provided with suggestions on what to pack for each specific holiday destination which is invaluable if you haven’t been to the country before. It’s easy to get in contact with Naturetrek. The staff do everything they can to ensure the holiday goes smoothly. The range and variety of holidays they provide is fantastic. We’ve been on 3 holidays so far and have had an amazing experience for all of them. The tour partners they work with such as for boat trips are great and have the same ethos as Naturetrek in providing a fantastic service with staff who are passionate about nature. The tour guides are so talented with so much knowledge and passion for nature. Even after the holiday sending through information about unusual species of wildlife. The trip reports are a lovely reminder of the holiday but also very helpful when looking at booking a holiday. The cost of the holidays may seem expensive but in reality they are such great value when considering what is included. A company truly invested in giving experiences of the wonders of nature and all it has to offer us.

Wild Romania, breathtaking wildlife in mountains and Danube Delta

We were accompanied by a UK guide and local guide who managed to find us Brown Bears which we watched for 2 hours at close range. Highlight was cubs scuttling up a tree on arrival of huge, battle scarred male. We stayed on a floating hotel on the Danube Delta where we saw groups of pelicans fishing as a team, a sight reminiscent of a ballet. Several white tailed eagles, again at close range when we turned a corner of a channel in the reed beds ...

Several white tailed eagles, again at close range when we turned a corner of a channel in the reed beds and they took off right in front of us. We saw numerous other birds such as the colourful bee eaters, rollers and whoopoes. We were looked after wonderfully by the Romanian staff both in the guest houses and when were afloat. One of the best holidays we have ever been on. Thank you Naturetrek.

From booking to arriving back at Heathrow they were fantastic. All the arrangements went smoothly and our very personable guides worked tirelessly to find birds, mammals, invertebrates, amphibians and plants and made sure everyone saw them. They were also great fun and ensured that there was a nice relaxed atmosphere wherever we went. I laughed a lot and enjoyed every minute of their company

The bird life was plentiful, it was a pleasure to see Imperial eagles, Long-eared owl and a plethora of water birds. We travelled mainly by minibus but one morning went out by horse and cart. Walking across a bridge into Hungary & seeing the remains of the Iron Curtain border was interesting. One evening we ate in a local restaurant and sampled local produce especially the Mangalitca pig meat. The trip was led by a knowledgeable, well organised naturalist.

A North Macedonia butterfly/bird extravaganza

It was a wonderful opportunity to see so many species of butterflies and birds that are not seen in the UK. We also experienced some of the history, culture and hospitality of Macedonians.

These included bird ringing, moth trapping, a boat trip, museum visit, exploring tunnels and bunkers of WW2 as well as walking through thre various habitats identifying flowers, birds, insects etc. etc.

John knows the island intimately and is a fund of knowledge in all froms of wildlife. He was ablee to taylor our activities to suit the weather conditions of the day and to access areas that would not normally be open to the public. His enthusiasm is infectious. He was also good at choosing great restaurants for or evening meal!
