This was a day trip, walking up the Downs in the afternoon, looking for orchids, butterflies and other insects, and birds. We saw plenty different species. After an optional meal in the pub, we set out for the Heath, where we heard and spotted the woodlark, saw linnets, yellowhammer amongst others. But the highlight was the sound and displays of the nightjars, really magic moments. Jonathan was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, and the other members of the group were lovely

Good planning and communications in advance The locally-based and personable guide was very knowledgeable and led an appropriately slow-paced walk, drawing attention to the butterflies and other wildlife to be seen.

Naturetrek is a large and well-known operator of nature tours. I have been on week-long holidays with Naturetrek in the past. The comparatively recent addition of day trips to their offerings opens up interesting new opportunities.

Wonderful day out with like minded people with a super experienced leader. I learnt so much and enjoyed the day enormously.

As with all my previous NatureTrek one day and longer trips, this was expertly delivered and very enjoyable, seeing and learning about Stone Curlews and their conservation on a re-wilded private country estate. I fully recommend to others.

Kept us informed of necessary changes

A beautiful walk along the Colne Estuary from Wivenhoe in a group of 7 with a superb guide. We were informed about birds, insects, local history and anything of natural interest. We returned via a nature reserve created from gravel bed workings which was also magical. Chris, our guide, was excellent, he is a mine of information and knowledge whose explanations are concise and clear.

NatureTrek was efficient and thorough with a personal touch.

An excellent day with a very knowledgeable guide who heard and then spotted some very hard to see species - firecrest and nightjar. Plus great views of other heathland birds such tree pipits and stonechats.

This is the third daytrip we have done with Naturetrek and are very much looking forward to our first post-lockdown trip abroad with them.
