A magical time in a volcanic and wildlife wonderland!
It was a one-off holiday to Iceland combining the chance (successful!!!) of seeing an erupting volcano, together with fabulous summer wildlife, geothermal and wildflower sightings, topped off with an amazing whale-watching trip on a stunning tall ship. Naturetrek, my tour operator, were fantastic in organising this special trip to take advantage of the prospect of viewing the new Icelandic volcano at Fagradalsfjall that started erupting in March 2021, together with a feast of other natural wonders of the country outside Naturetrek's normal seasons of visiting - taking advantage of Iceland being one of the few countries UK residents could travel too in early Jul 21. The tour leaders were magnificent from ensuring all travellers were Covid-ready (compliant) for outbound travel to going out of their way to lay on extra evening nature walks (taking advantage of splendid weather) and adjusting schedules to capitalise on a fortunate re-ignition of volcanic eruption activity on our last full day on the island. The tour leader was particularly supportive of many of the clients encountering stressful experiences with their 72 hour advance pre-return to UK tests which had to done via live links back to UK verifiers. His efforts both in coordinating the testing and helping overcome numerous obstacles faced by clients unfamiliar with the technology involved was superb and ensured minimal disruption to our collective activities at this challenging time. The local knowledge of both the tour leader and accompanying lead guide on the best places to see wildlife was exceptional, ensuring we all had plenty of truly memorable viewings and photographic opportunities. The hike to the volcano was very demanding for some and the Naturetrek guides were so supportive of those needing a helping hand, naturally encouraging us to work as a team. I couldn't have asked for more from the company in these extraordinary times and we are all still in touch sharing photos!

Day trip to cuckmere haven
A day exploring the range of birds, blooms and butterflies of Cuckmere Haven. A small group with an expert guide. We had great opportunities to learn, explore and take photos. A great day.

Naturetrek Always great communication and high quality at all stages

Isle of Portland day trip.
Excellent all round, although we ran out of time and couldn't do the wading birds which my husband wanted. But Tom was an expert on finding butterflies, and we saw many more than we would have done without him.

A wonderful day's birding, botanising and butterflying.
Lovely leisurely walk along the Cuckmere River, spotting whatever wildlife there was to spot, with a very knowledgeable leader.

Excellent day trip
A day looking for Willow Emerald Damselflies at Nethergong Campsite in Kent. Excellent leader (Marc Heath) who gave each participant time to explore, ask questions and to photograph the abundant wildlife at this site.

Go Slow in Hampshire - right speed to see all the beautiful orchids, butterflies and birds!
We stayed a Champneys Forestmere in Hampshire. Champneys did have some service issues as they were short-staffed, but nonetheless it was a great base and provided opportunity for swimming, beauty treatments, yoga etc. Good food also. The Naturetrek guides then took us out during the day (9am - 4pm) on walks to see local nature - lots of orchids, plants, butterflies, dragonflies, birds etc with good lunch stops.

I've had good experiences with Naturetrek and have been on a number of holidays with them. They always have knowledgeable guides to show us wonderful nature around us that we would struggle to see on our own. They choose good accommodation and attract interesting and enthusiastic participants. They are my "go to" tour operator for all holidays over than those with family or friends.

Somerset Levels flora/fauna and geology in Summer.
Full on tour lead by expert leaders who were so passionate about there subject and had a wide knowledge of wildlife as a whole. A most enlightening tour that visited places and found so many species of plants, insects, etc,. plus a general overview of how the levels were created and how they have been managed over the decades. Without such local knowledge so much would have been missed by doing a similar visit by oneself.

Very reliable and trustworthy and never had any problems with them. The refund holidays cancelled due to the pandemic was done professionally and efficiently under such difficult circumstances. Any problems with flight delays and anything else that has ever cropped on any tour has been dealt with very smoothly and takes away the hassle out of sorting unforeseen events oneself.
