Wonderful day out

Enjoyed a great day at Otmoor RSPB reserve yesterday. As always with Naturetrek our guide was fantastic, her knowledge of the reserve and the wildlife and plant life we saw were second to none. A really enjoyable day where we spotted 57 different bird species including a Cetti's warbler, White Fronted Goose and Pintail all firsts for me. We heard but sadly didn't see the elusive Bittern. But we did hear and then see flying a cuckoo a rare sighting for us. We were thrilled to be show a group of 3 grass snakes in the reeds at the waters edge, and saw our first butterflies of the year. A great day all rounded of by our guide pointing our a variety of bees and other insects, including an Alder Fly which landed on our guides arm, and stayed for me to get a close up photo. The highlight for my camera was the Sedge Warbler that sang to us for a couple of minutes in clear sight. Thank you Naturetrek for arranging these day trips to let us get out in the countryside with a first rate guide in these strange time. If you get a chance to go on one of the trips don't hesitate, I am sure you will have as good a day as we did.

Every Naturetrek holiday we have been on has been perfectly organised, with professional guides who have intimate knowledge of the local and the Flora and fauna you can find there. Our one day trip to Otmoor RSPB reserve was no different.

Oxforshire Meadows Fritillaries and Orchids

Excellent leader, extensive natural history knowledge, not just botany. A good knoledge of the sites visited and how to reach them. Fallback locations if the weather had delayed flowering. Always ready to answer questions and help with camera problems!

Introduction to Macro Photography at Pitsford SSSI (Day Trip)

This was a day trip to Pitsford Reservoir where we were introduced to the techniques of macro photography of various flowers, bugs and moths. Although the weather was a little cool to encourage as many bugs as we would have liked, Dave opened our eyes to what was there if you looked carefully, and how interesting small bugs can be in close-up!

Naturetrek have organised a variety of day trips, making the most of what is available under current Covid restrictions. These are totally Covid compliant, but still great fun, and led by really enthusiastic and knowledgable guides.
