Immersed in nature

Ardnamurchan peninsula in Scotland. A place so quiet and beautiful it lifts the soul.

I have traveled with Naturetrek before and will do so again. The only company I trust to offer wildlife watching trips that are ethical, good value for money and have guides who are as excited to see the wildlife as we are.

What a treat to get away at last !!

Small group birdwatching in Gibraltar and adjacent Spain. Some problems with the airport and bad weather but overall a successful and well managed trip.

Excellent holiday, with a learn Spanish element as well as finding wildlife

Met up with Byron and Tino at Santander airport, and went to the accommodation, in the mountains. Saw lots of wildlife I would never have dreamed of finding without their help such as wild cats and a brown bear, as well as birds including middle spotted woodpecker. In the evening we would have an hour of Spanish lessons with Byron, and the chance to practice it throughout the day.

Naturetrek offer wildlife tours worldwide, my tour last year was cancelled due to covid, they refunded straight away. I found them to be an excellent and trustworthy tour operator, and booked on to a slightly different tour with them this year instead.

This was a day trip organised by Naturetrek at Minsmere RSPB Reserve.

It was an excellent day, making the bird life interesting and pointing out a lot of different species.

Autumn Migration at Spurn (Day Trip)

Excellent day out at Spurn with a tour leader who really knew the area and was able to direct us to some good birds. Lots of ground covered but at a comfortable pace and plenty of time for stops to check areas out.

This 10 day tailormade holiday was designed to explore the culture, scenery and wildlife of this little known Balkan country. The holiday, which covered much of the country other than the far south east, exceeded all of our expectations. We are keen bird watchers and our visits to the Karavasta national park and the Narta lagoon, in particular, disclosed a wonderful array of migrant and breeding birds including dalmation pelican and flamingo. In total, we saw an impressive 119 species of birds including two levant sparrowhawks, a group of about 150 stone curlew and about 800 roosting lesser kestrels. We visited the historic towns of Gjirokaster and Berat and enjoyed walking around the historical quarters. The Albanian people are very friendly and happy to talk about their country and its history - we learned so much about its past including life under the very recent communist regime. The scenery is spectacular. We spent three days in the Valbona national park in the far north before before travelling south on the ferry across Lake Koman. The Valbona valley has some breath-takingly beautiful mountain landscapes and, at the moment, this is pristine and largely untouched. However, the area is beginning to be developed and we do hope that some control is placed over the building of houses and hotels so that the area remains a true wilderness. In summary, we would strongly recommend Albania to anyone who is interested in exploring a country with a rich culture, beautiful scenery and a wealth of fascinating wildlife.

Rating for tour operator:

The Naturetrek team and their local agents did a fantastic job in designing and organising this holiday for us. They displayed a detailed knowledge of the country and where to go and what to see. They excel in designing wildlife holidays but are excellent in putting together an itinerary which incudes wildlife and culture. All the arrangements worked like clockwork. We will certainly be going on more Naturetrek tailormade holidays.
