Hadrian's Wall by Chantry, 9 Aug 2017

Mickledore gave us the holiday we had dreamt of for years

An amazing experience - crossing England along the Hadrian's Wall path. From the nature reserves of Bowness on Solway, feeling on top of the world on the Crags and then slowly passing through fields of gold towards the river Tyne.

Rating for tour operator:

We wanted to walk Hadrian’s Wall and chose Micledore to arrange the holiday having had them recommended to us. We’ve been on trips like this before so we can compare levels of service and expertise. Right from the start Micledore proved to be exceptional because of their attention to detail. They were attentive to our requests and quick to find solutions. They provided all the information we needed to get from place to place and find our accomodation. As we live abroad we really appreciated the quality and variety of accomodation and eating places they arranged for us which gave us a taste of life in rural Britain. We hope to participate in further holdiays with Mickledore and recommend them without hesitation.

walking Hadrians wall in many weathers.

My sister and I are just back from a 4day walking holiday ,walking the most scenic part of Hadrians Wall. We started in Corbridge and ended up in Brampton. We had lovely Guesthouses to rest our weary bones each night. We started with a wonderful breakfast, and lunch to eat on the walk. The landscape was so varied, from lakes to distant mountains, altogether a great experience.

Hadiran's Wall Path

Thanks to your organization, our walk went very well. We were even lucky enough to have very little rain & mud. The B&B's were good, with 2 stand-outs: Langleigh Guest House in Carlisle, and Hunter Crook Lodge, in Twice Brewed. They were both exceptional. Lucky for us we had 2-3 nights in each. Langleigh had fabulous rooms, wonderful hosts & outstanding breakfasts. Hunter Crook also had very nice rooms, made better by country views outside the window, along with all manner of animals. The rooster really wanted to check out our room! The hosts were delightful. Julie did some laundry for us, and unexpected bonus. The food was do die for. The other B&B's were very good, but these two stood out. The walk was as we expected, with a bit of challenge in the middle. We had a wonderful time. One of our group had the Henry Stedman guidebook: Hadrian's Wall Path, 4th edition, 2014. Although it goes the other way, we found it much more useful than the Cicerone guide. The maps were in sketch form, and had landmarks that were easy to recognize & follow. The daily written descriptions in both books were good. The booklet we got with the B&B names & instructions were fine. We all thought the maps showing the location of the B&B were useless. They were much too small to make sense of. I would like to have had daily walking distances added to the outline. I can not fathom why Mickledore will not allow one person to book a lunch. It makes absolutely no sense to me, or anyone else in our group. As it turned out, there was only one day where we couldn't access a pub for lunch. When we arrived in Tynemouth, the directions to the B&B seemed wrong. We couldn't find a cobble street, and we ended up in the wrong section of town. Some kind person, mowing his lawn, helped us out. Street names & compass directions may help. Overall, a very good trip.

Mickledore is a good company. The tour ran smoothly, with no hiccups.

South Downs Way by Hitchy Hiker, 2 Aug 2017

Efficient and thorough, everything according to plan. Fantastic accomodation and a worry free holiday.

Walking the South Downs Way national trail. What a beautiful walk and I had superb hot weather. Thousands of butterflies and hundreds of skylarks - truly wonderful. The walking is moderate although coming off the back of Devil's Dyke is a bit steep and the path peters out - but that is not part off the trail so it is understandable. A little care and caution was needed. The only negative was in some of the woodland at the Winchester side of the trail was horse flies biting but this stopped when using a good insect repellent. Some brilliant villages and places to stay and eat during the walk. Friendly people and such generous portions at all the places to eat. Very pleased with the whole trail.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore had everything organised to the last detail. Third year I have used them and they get better each time. Their itinaries and support information are very comprehensive. The accommodation they choose is superb and most places provide packed lunches as well. Luggage collections and taxi transfers are efficient and friendly and a great source of local knowledge. I would say that everything is well thought out and planned even down to options being available en route. On top of that I trust and rely on them which lets me get on with the walking and enjoying all I see and do on the trail.

Fabulous Dales Way with Mickledore

We walked the 80+ miles of the Dales Way, our first long distance trail, over the summer solstice and mainly in sunshine. The scenery was lovely, the B&B's welcoming and comfortable and we met friendly fellow walkers along the way who cheered us on our arrival at the pub at the end.

Rating for tour operator:

We liked not having to book the accommodation and transfers ourselves and felt safe leaving the arrangements to Mickledore as they had come with very good recommendations from other walkers. Mickledore took into account the distance we had requested to walk each day and the grade of accommodation we had chosen. Once we had paid the balance of our holiday and received their final planning there was nothing to worry about except our fitness to walk the distance.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 03 Aug 2017:

Its great to hear that we came with good recommendations and that we lived up to your expectations. Thank you for taking the time to leave your kind feedback and congratulations on completing your walk. We look forward to arranging the next one for you.

Really Well Organised Walking Holiday

Mickeldore arranged a wonderful holiday. The first night accommodation was changed at the last minute, and they contacted us all to let us know. Excellent service!

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 03 Aug 2017:

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad to hear that the last minute change was not a problem at all. We do try our best to avoid these situations but occasionally something happens that is beyond our control meaning a change has to be made. In these rare instances we work hard to make sure the impact is minimal. With regards to the weather, I'd like to say we organised this too but I'm afraid we cant take credit!

Walking holiday- Dalesway

We had a fantastic time waking the eighty one miles of the Dalesway, staying at accommodation organised by Mickledore, and with daily luggage transfer. Everything worked to plan, the accommodation was consistently good, and the walk itself is very pretty. The directions provided by Mickledore were all spot on.

Coast to Coast by Harold, 1 Aug 2017

Excellent experience

Walking the coast to coast was on our bucket-list for a while. Now after walking the long hike, we have seen a lot of England, spoken to many people, tasted the local atmosphere and enjoyed the scenery. We slept in B&B's organised by Mickledore and they gave us the needed attention, rest, shower and good food.

The communication was on the spot and within the hour making adjusting of the program no trouble at all. The provided all the service we expected and needed. Excellent job.

Fabulous experience

7 of us walked 63 miles of Hadrians Wall. We were very lucky with the weather, and stayed in some wonderful B&Bs along the way. The scenery, particularly on the Eastern part of the wall, is breathtaking and the history extremely interesting and captivating.

Mickledore were tremendous at every stage. They were extremely helpful in advising all 7 of us, even agreeing to take payment from each of us separately. The B&Bs were excellent (the owners all also acknowledged that Mickledore are the best!), the information pack was comprehensive and any problems were easily resolved.
