Rainbows on the West Highland Way

Walking the WHW was a great experience. With beautiful scenery, friendly people from around the world, excellent accommodation and food along the route, who needs to go abroad for a memorable holiday?

Mickledore are first class. The only thing they can't fix is the weather and even that was better than it might have been.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 29 Sep 2017:

You are absolutely right that you do not need to leave the UK to have a fabulous holiday, the West Highland Way is a spectacular route! We do our best with the weather but sometimes it just won't comply! We hope to welcome you back very soon.

West Highland Way

Hiking the West Highland Way was the experience of a lifetime. It is challenging, but absolutely worth it. The scenery is spectacular and the towns along the way were truly enjoyable. We're looking forward to new and exciting trails throughout Scotland.

Travelling from Canada we are truely amazed by the ease of travel outside the bigger cities. To get to our starting point we flew to Manchester......a train right at the airport to York.....and a bus 1 block away to Helmsley .....and a one block walk to our guesthouse. Very smooth and the locals were very helpful. We stopped for just a moment in York to check our map and a busy businessman stopped to offer assstnace. All of our accommodations were wonderful. Hundreds use this trail every year and the hosts we stayed with understood that we may be wet and muddy......and wet boots were always returned dry and ready for the next day. The path travels thru peaceful and quiet landscapes ......the moors are amazing. Then you get to the coast and the scenery changes to busy villages and many day hikers.....all interesting to talk to. Great variety on this hike......nice blend of England.

Mickeldore has never let us down. Their website is wonderful......great information about the walk and helpful in deciding what is the right option for you. Booking online also easy to do. We phoned the company to pay the deposit and then the final payment ....you can avoid the credit card charges by doing this....thanks for that option. The other option we appreciate is the booking of prepaid packed lunches......and they were all wonderful. The staff has always been quick in replying to our e-mails and when on the phone have been very helpful and friendly. We had one question while on the walk and an e-mail back and forth answered our concerns.....and within hours. Thanks. Our packages arrived very quickly after final payment.....the maps and book were the best. Our accommodations were super.....a real mix of hotel, guesthouse and B&B. Sometimes we thought they were closer ones .....always wondering why we kept walking.....but after the stay in these marvellous places we were glad for the extra steps. Never disappointed. Highly recommend using our favourite operator.

A great experience walking Wainwright's Coast to Coast.

If you're into long distance walking, then this is for you. Varied terrain from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay. From the Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales over to the North York Moors, this is a great experience and very satisfying, especially when you finish!

Mickledore Holidays can't be recommended enough. They bent over backwards to make sure that I could stay in the same accommodation as my walking pals, even though I booked after them. They kept me informed of any changes and provided a good information pack.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 29 Sep 2017:

We are pleased to hear that you had a great time with your friend on this walk and we were happy that we were able to accommodate you along with them to make this trip the best it could be for you.
I hope that you will try another of our routes in the future.

As mentioned above, Mickledore is a friendly and professional company offering personal advice and support throughout the holiday from booking to evaluation post-return. The walks are tested out by a member of the company and the accommodation is generally of good quality. Where expectations are not met Mickledore follows up on comments from clients. Rating for tour operator:

We picked Mickledore's Lady Anne's Way because we had done 2 previous walks with them. There organisation and management of was excellent. The B&B's chosen by Mickledore were very good; the directions provided to them were exceptional. The paperwork provided at the beginning of the walk covered every, and I mean every, eventuality and need for the walk from coffee shops along the way to a range of eating places for the evening. Prior to the walk Mickledore's team were always friendly and helpful no matter how trivial the question may be.

Thank you for these kind words, we are very happy to answer all questions to help you with your holiday, so we are pleased you found us helpful. Its also great to receive feedback about the holiday pack information as we do put a lot of effort into keeping these up to date and useful. Lady Anne's Way is in a beautiful part of the country but we have many more routes that are similarly spectacular so please do take a look and book another very soon.

West Highland Way

All of the arrangements made by Mickledore for our hike along the West Highland Way were excellent. The selected lodgings and accommodations were perfect and the luggage transfer service worked flawlessly. Also, all of the lodges and inns correctly recorded our request for a packed trail lunch each day. The entire trip was hassle-free and well-organized.

Excellent Cotswold Way Walk (self- tour)

We just returned from a Cotswold Way Walk organized by Mickledore Travel as a self tour. We had an excellent time hiking the entire 103 miles of trail from Chipping Campden to Bath. The accommodations were first-rate and we had no problems at all with any of the accommodation, or the transfer of our luggage. Most accommodations ...

The accommodations were first-rate and we had no problems at all with any of the accommodation, or the transfer of our luggage. Most accommodations were right off the trail, or only a short distance away. Every day was a fantastic journey, ending with luggage in the room, a hot shower, and a comfy bed.

Rating for tour operator:

This self guided walk, organized by Mickeldore Travel was excellent. The information we received such as maps, trail guides, services, and accommodations were well organized and extremely useful. They left nothing to chance. No complaints at all regarding any of the B&B's or inns. We enjoyed each one and its uniqueness to the community. I would definitely book another tour with Mickeldore. Thank you, Mickeldore for organizing a great walk (thanks for the great weather you provided also!). We could not have planned a more complete walking vacation without your wonderful service.
