Let someone else take the strain!

Just comoleted 9 day holiday walking the South Downs Way. Booked accommodation and onward transfer of baggage through Mickledore. Very pleased with the quality of bed and breakfast/pubs with rooms they chose for us and baggage transfer. It was great just concentrating on the walking and not worrying about carrying heavy rucksacks and what accommodation might be waiting for us.

Mickledore Travel review

Mickledore was very courteous and attentive from my first email to the days following my holiday. The holiday was well organized, I only had to pay attention to enjoy the scenery. As they were alway quick to respond and I had many ways to contact them I felt sure that if something had gone wrong they would have helped me swiftly.

Excellent walking holiday!

Excellent itinerary, accommodation and food, along with efficient baggage transfer. All we had to do was enjoy the walk along Hadrian's Wall.

Two Great Micheldore Walks in a Row; More to Come

Last year we did the Coast to Coast walk; this year we did the Inn to Inn circle in the Lake District. Micheldore organized both. The measure of our respect and appreciation is that we'll turn to them for our next walking holiday. Being canoe-trippers and arctic-trekkers from Canada, we expect to be challenged and we were; we expect to engage with the subtle details of spectacular landscape and we did. We couldn't ask for more, except to do it again...

Micheldore is in a class by itself. When we strayed off-route on our recent Lakes District walk and arrived late and exhausted at our destination, Micheldore were already monitoring our progress, prepared for a rescue if necessary (it wasn't). For the next few days, they quietly, subtly, followed our progress from Inn to Inn to make sure were were faring well (we were). Also, from their records of our Coast to Coast walk last year, they alerted Inns and B&B's about dietary requirements (relatively minor but very considerate). The support materials they supplied have been excellent, allowing us to plan and experience great English treks. We've walked with a number of different companies in the U.K. The future belongs to Micheldore (and fate; I'm seventy-eight but still going strong). We plan to combine forces with them in two years time for another Wainwright walk.

West Highland Way by Peter I, 7 May 2018
Holiday Rating:

Great organisation and hitch-free

Great holiday. The West Highland Way is very scenic and at 96 miles is short enough to complete in a week.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore take your requirements and turn them into a hitch-free holiday. We just tell them the route we want to walk from their list of supported routes and tell them how many days we want to take doing it and they do the rest. Never had a problem with baggage transfers and the accommodation is usually first class. The information that they send out about the holiday is spot on, with enough detail to enable you to make informed choices. They always make point of requesting feedback on all aspects of their holidays, which they always specifically acknowledge, so if anything is not right they do learn the lessons. I highly recommend this company.

Provided confidence day to day and a good experience

Walked around the Arran coastline. My documentation was detailed and accurate. The accommodation was good or great and I would do it (or something similar) again

South Downs 100 miles in 10 days

We had an unexpected heat wave, not dressed for that. Also Winchester end of walk has very poor access to water, which was bad on hot days. A lot of it is walking in agri-business on farm tracks, not the best walking surface and always at risk of interruption by huge tractors and spray rigs. We did not feel adequately advised about this. The B&B’s were all very good, the map and guide book were fine and the luggage and taxis were excellent...

A lot of it is walking in agri-business on farm tracks, not the best walking surface and always at risk of interruption by huge tractors and spray rigs. We did not feel adequately advised about this. The B&B’s were all very good, the map and guide book were fine and the luggage and taxis were excellent. The bag lunches were mostly pretty bad, no provision for vegans and not very good food. We will bring our own next time. We dont blame Mickledore for this, we had forgotten it was like this on previous trip also. B&B’s all provided a great breakfast but not so good at lunch.

Rating for tour operator:

We have used Mickledore before. They provide a reliable and honest service. We like the way they present the options. We feel the prices are fair.

Mickledore Travel responded to this review on 01 Jun 2018:

We do try to ensure that information is available to accommodations for your special dietary requirements so that they can prepare suitable meals for you. Unfortunately when your booking was made we were not told that you are vegan so could not pass this on to them. It is good to know that overall you enjoyed your holiday and the arrangements that we made for your trip. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

A well-planned and invigorating 10-day walk.

My sister and I walked along the Hadrian Wall path over 10 days. We enjoyed the well-signed walk, the immersion in a piece of history and all the sheep! At the end of each day we were warmly received by B&B hosts who are familiar to a walkers needs including help with drying out muddy boots and sometimes a lift to and from the local pub at the end of the day where we would enjoy an excellent meal and raise a pint to the day.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore Walking Holidays arranged our holiday. They happily answered our various e-mailed questions as we planned the trip. They provided clear, helpful material, both for trip preparation and for use during the walk. The materials included an excellent guide book with a pull-out map of our walk specific to the direction that we were taking. The baggage delivery system worked very well. This was the first time that I have used a baggage delivery system--it is a delightful luxury.

Wonderful Hadrian's Wall walk

This was our first long walk holiday, we wanted it to be an holiday so we did it over 9 days with a 'rest' day at Twice Brewed to see the forts. We had a wonderful time, with fantastic views, we met many friendly and interesting people. We would recommend this walk highly, it wasnt too difficult, we'll sign posted when needed and you are walking history!

Mickledore provided An excellent service From the first contact to the end. The standard of accommodation was excellent overall and also the recommendation of places to eat. The team at Mickledore were very friendly and knowledgeable. The information provided before we started the walk was clear and understandable. Our holiday was just a great experience with no worries about where to, go how to find the accommodation and where to eat. I would certainly use Mickledore again in the future.
