Our thisrd stop was at Barcaldine Casle just north of Oban. A magnificent experience. Our last stop was at the truly magnificent Monachyle Mohr hotel. An excellent room, excellent service and superb food. The weather was kind enough for us to enjoy some good walking in the area- the car had a rest!

Rating for tour operator:

Very well organised, nothing was left to chance. Their selection of accommodation is very good and the support package of materials proved to be invaluable. It is our second time with McKinlay Kidd, we will certainly be using them again.

Holiday Rating:

Great scenery, great food, and all arranged for us.

We did the Grand Tour of Scotland by rail. It was a very good break. All the arrangements worked, the scenery was magnificent, and the food exceptional almost everywhere.

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd organised everything and all the arrangements worked: trains, ferries, tours, taxis. I couldn't fault them. Several of the hotel managers/landladies also commented that they find them an excellent company to do business with. It was all so easy, and best of all we didn't have to do any driving!

Shetland fly-drive, 3 nights

The holiday was a great introduction to the Shetland Islands. Luckily the weather was good so we were able to see a lot of the interesting places. The people were incredibly helpful and friendly.

Seeing Orkney Differently was an amazing experience

We stayed on three different islands over the course of the week, each one with a unique feel. The ferries and plane travel also gave an insight into the way people live on these fascinating islands. The ancient history, wildlife and scenery were brought to life by the guided tours provided by local expert residents. The freshest of seafood, the most comfortable beds, the friendliness of the people all served to provide a holiday to remember ...

The ancient history, wildlife and scenery were brought to life by the guided tours provided by local expert residents. The freshest of seafood, the most comfortable beds, the friendliness of the people all served to provide a holiday to remember . When our travel plans had to change midweek from flight to ferry due to fog this was sorted out efficiently by Mr Kidd and knowing we were in good hands made for a stress free holiday.

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd were efficient and helpful from the booking process through to coming home. We would have no hesitation recommending them to all our friends and family.

Grand Tour of Scotland by Train

Starting in Glasgow, we took the train to various locations in Scotland. Most stops were two nights with 2 being of one night each. Our tour took us to Spean Bridge, Arisaig, Skye (by ferry), Plockton, Inverness, Thurso, Kingussie and Pitlochry, ending in Edinburgh. Our trip also included a ride on the Jacobite Train, a visit to the Isle of Rum (via ferry) and the Orkneys (via ferry). Breakfast was always included, as well as three dinners.

This was an environmentally and socially responsible holiday by train and ferry through most of Scotland including The Isle of Skye and the Orkney Islands. This is a good trip if it's your first time in Scotland because you will get a good overview of the country. It was organized by McKinlay Kidd, I travelled solo, met wonderful people and had a wonderful time. All the difficult parts were done for me. I stayed at locally run B&Bs or boutique hotels. Some of the B&Bs were so beautiful and well-run that I felt I was on a movie set. The scenery is breathtaking and if you enjoy long walks in beautiful countryside, this is a good trip to take. The tour also includes Glasgow, Inverness, and Edinburgh city stays to balance out the quiet country life.

Rating for tour operator:

McKinley Kidd did all of the hard work and were flawless in delivery and performance. I experienced 2 minor glitches during my trip (that were not the fault of McKinley Kidd). They responded to the issues in record time (within 1 hour). I was happily stunned as I expected to deal with the issues on my own. They select beautiful properties for overnight that are well-located, or a little off the beaten path but with good access to nearby attractions. All transfers and transportation were well-managed and comfortable. I would definitely book another McKinlay Kidd Holiday and have already recommended them to several friends.

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd staff were very friendly helpful and understanding as my wife and I are both senior citizens and don't know how to deal with social networking therefore I had to phone for advice on several occasions each situation was handled and broken down into simple format so we could understand. We cannot express how good this company are and would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of using them as everything on our trip was first class from the beginning to journeys end.We will use them without hesitation in the future.

Perfect Get Away

An excellent trip in a different part of the UK. No crowds, easy driving, lots of scenery and wildlife. We stayed in a varied range of small hotels and B & B's all with welcoming hosts, comfort and excellent food. All the pre-booked ferries and accommodation worked like clockwork. It was of course a bit dreak at times (wet and very windy) but it all adds to the atmosphere. If you like birds don't miss the RSPB reserve at Balranald.

Beaches and bogs en route to Thurso

After a morning in the city we boarded the afternoon Far North Line to Thurso, taking in the sites along the coast and through the blanket bog. A taxi was waiting to take us to our B and B where we spent two nights before crossing over to Orkney on the ferry. WE spent the afternoon in Kirkwall visiting the museum, the docks and the wonderful shops. The next day we were collected by a very knowledgeable lady who took us to the main archaealogical sites, St. MAgnus Cathedral, the Italian chapel, the Churchill barriers and Scapa Flow. A very good way of learning about Orkney in a short visit. All too son it was time to do the return journey, though with just as much fun!

Rating for tour operator:

IT was a very efficient set-up, from the initial telephone call through to the confirmation and payment. Shortly before the start of the holiday our documentation and maps arrived via e-mail (though we could have received paper copies). We considered it to be a modern company and look forward to being able to travel with them again.
