Wonderful Experience

We had the BEST time on our Explore Scotland by Train vacation. It was absolutely top notch! All the details were taken care of and all we had to do was show up. The train is such a fun way to travel and immerse yourself in the area and with the locals. Transfers, shuttles.... everything was lined up and right on time. It made us feel at ease to be so well taken care of. We WILL be using McKinlay Kidd again for our next adventure in the surrounding areas. I highly, highly recommend them.

This was an independent travel trip. However, we had excursions planned that were wonderful.

McKinlay Kidd was comprehensive, quality, caring, and always courteous. Their staff were there for us when we had a blip with a ferry sailing early, and sorted it immediately. The wonderful hosts and homes they booked for us made our whole trip that much more engaging and fun. All the suggestions for sights along the way were great. It turned out not to be a leisurely drive as we tried to see it all! We were very lucky with the weather, with several spectacular sunny days.

Ireland's Wild Atlantic Coast

A very well curated small group guided tour. Expertly led. Lovely hotels, friendly and full of character. Stunning scenery. Two days of torrential rain didn't get in the way of a splendid holiday.

This was our third small group guided tour with McKinlay Kidd and, yet again they did not disappoint. Easy to book through an impressive website. Very smooth administration, easy to follow guidance and excellent pre tour briefing about where we are visiting and things to look out for.

Journey through the Western Isles

We booked this trip as a celebration of our ruby wedding anniversary. It was a much-anticipated treat for us. The travel company couldn't have been more helpful and our only bugbear was the type of food available on the islands for lunchtime dinners (predominantly bread, fish or burger and chips). We had to adjust to the variability of tide and weather for ferries, as we had two where the planned sailing couldn't happen but our tour operator ...

We booked this trip as a celebration of our ruby wedding anniversary. It was a much-anticipated treat for us. The travel company couldn't have been more helpful and our only bugbear was the type of food available on the islands for lunchtime dinners (predominantly bread, fish or burger and chips). We had to adjust to the variability of tide and weather for ferries, as we had two where the planned sailing couldn't happen but our tour operator made sure, we knew about the changes well in advance. The scenery was utterly beautiful though the weather was typical of North Atlantic coast, very windy and frequently wet. All of the accommodation was very clean and comfortable, we slept very well wherever we stayed, and almost always the welcome was as warm as the rooms. We felt that it was a really good introduction to the Isles, but that we would have liked to stay longer on each to get to know it better. We managed to tick off all the things on our "to see" list (well, we heard the corncrake but it remained hidden in the machair) and thoroughly recommend this experience to others who love space, views and wilflife.

Wonderful exploration of Scotland

We thoroughly enjoyed Edinburgh for several days. Toured the Highlands in the Inverness area and Isle of Skye. Glorious scenery and fabulous tour guides. Traveled by train, ferry and taxi to Oban. Charmed by Oban, Traveled by train back through Glasgow to Edinburgh. Loved learning about the history, touring castles and gardens, food was fabulous especially the seafood, and Scottish people were very welcoming.
