Orkney & Shetland Fly-Drive

The trip involved three flights, two car hires and two hotel bookings, all ran like clockwork. I was sent clear instructions well before the trip supported by some very useful maps and hints on what to visit. All flights (by Flybe) were on time and both car hire firms were expecting me. Both (three-star) hotels were of excellent standards with good restaurants. It quickly became clear that the hotels and hire companies were very happy working with McKinlay Kidd whom all regarded as ultra reliable. Nothing I saw led me to dispute this. I was pre-warned about the midges. but when I arrived I learned that they rarely visited Orkney and only came to the Shetlands in late August, an added bonus. I could not fault the trip and anticipate travelling with McKinlay Kidd again.

Rating for tour operator:

Highly professional and clearly respected by the hotels and car hire firms they used (which was a great help in reducing paperwork.) Pre-visit questions e-mailed to them were answered within a day (often on the day), clear and unambiguous paperwork was delivered well before the event. I could not fault McKinlay Kidd and shall very possibly use them again.

Wonderful car-free tour of Scotland

My husband and I celebrated our 35th anniversary by going to Iona, Mull, Tobermory, Speen Bridge and Skye by ferry, bus, train & taxi. The tour was arranged by McKinlay Kidd and the schedule, transportation, lodging and meals were all wonderful. I have already recommended this trip to several friends and hope to return to Scotland in the future.

McKinlay Kidd handled all of the arrangements and provided us with a detailed itinerary and suggestions for sightseeing stops. The accommodations were wonderful. During the rail strike they kept us informed of schedule changes and kept the whole trip completely stress free for us. Great job! Thank you Hamish (Mckinlay Kidd).

The selection of places to stay were excellent baring in mind that some of the remoter parts do not offer a huge choice.

Scotland Highland Tour by Train

Fabulous train tour of the Highlands - Isle of Skye, Inverness, Pitlochry. Even travelled on the Harry Potter train! All the hotels and hosts were excellent and the guides in the towns were knowledgeable and accommodating - they asked us what our interests were in touring. They knew a lot of the history of the region. A highlight of our trip abroad

McKinley Kidd had everything well organized and its choice of accommodations and guides was excellent. The tickets and tour materials were easy to use and when there was a problem with a train - there was a strike - our new itinerary was at our hotel before we even arrived. A perfect vacation and we would use McKinley Kidd again and have recommended it to others.

Enchanted.

This was the honeymoon we dreamed about. It was truly exceptional and effortless with how tailored it was for us. Each new experience surprised us with landscape, scenery, top notch accommodation, delicious food, special treats, luxury, and most of all, wonderful hosts welcoming us. Truly an amazing experience.

McKinlay Kidd review

McKinley Kidd could not have been better. We gave them a very tight time frame to get our trip organised because we only made a last minute decision to travel. They did it. All of our travel just flowed smoothly from ferries, to hotels, to hire car. No hitches. We stayed in good hotels with great breakfasts. Thanks to all at McKinley Kidd for getting us to places on our bucket list. It would not have happened without your organisation, especially

Beautiful journey through the Outer Hebrides

This was a short journey of just over a week, staying at three hotels on Barra, North Uist and Harris. The arrangements made by McKinlay Kidd were totally stress-free and more than helpful. Great week exploring the Northern Isles (and drinking a little whisky!)

We took a fly-drive package with McKinlay Kidd. They organised the flights from the South of England to Orkney, where we stayed at Lynnfield Hotel, a great high quality hotel that we'd recommend to anyone. The hire car rep met us at the airport, and the car was great for exploring some of the amazing historic sites of Orkney. The hire car rep met us at the airport, and the car was great for exploring some of the amazing historic sites of Orkney. At the end of the three days, we dropped off our car and flew to Shetland where we again picked up a car and travelled to Busta House Hotel, which was also of a very good standard. We loved how different Shetland and Orkney are from each other, and how independent each is. You saw the Islands' flags flying everywhere - not the Saltire or the Union Jack. People were terrific - universally friendly, welcoming and helpful. 5* holiday, really recommended.

Rating for tour operator:

Excellent in the planning stage. Our package was individually tailored for us, and we travelled as a couple - at no time were we in a group. Some flight adjustments were necessary at one time and they were attentive to detail and followed through on everything. The pre-departure pack we were sent contained maps, guides, itineraries and very helpful Explorer passes which got us into many attractions at no cost (but not the whisky distillery unfortunately!) - extremely comprehensive. A bonus also pre-organised within the cost, was a fantastic boat trip to see nesting sea birds, puffins and also some underwater life via a submarine camera. All really good.

I could not fault it in any way

We had a wonderful week on the Isle of Mull - the accommodation was good and the organised trips were fabulous. A beautiful island to which we hope to return to explore other parts we did not have time to see.

This is the second trip we have travelled with McKinlay Kidd (last year we went to Eire) and I cannot praise them enough for their personal and caring service. Special thanks to Robert (last year) and Hamish (this year)
