Scottish Island hopping with McKinlay Kidd

Our fourth holiday with McKinlay Kidd took in Gigha, Jura, Islay and Colonsay. We have previously been to the Orkney Islands, Shetland and the Outer Hebrides.

Every Island has something different to offer and McKinlay Kidd have a knack of choosing interesting stop-overs (always with an accent on good food).

Job well done. Cheer. Brian

Short break to Shetland - 4 nights, 2 hotels

My husband and I went to Shetland for 4 nights (extending the standard 3 night offering) to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Scalloway Hotel and the Busta House hotel. There was plenty to see in the South and North of Shetland (although we preferred the walks available in the North as the scenery there was beautiful). I made initial contact with McKinlay Kidd via their website (which I found very easy to use and most informative about the services they offered). They responded quickly to my enquiry and were extremely helpful when I asked to extend the standard stay by an extra night. I was given a choice of flights and the pre-holiday information pack was well presented and informative. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others.

The itinerary and choice of places to stay are excellent.

I am particularly impressed at the stay of 2 of the places. The cosy family run hotel (Old Pines) at Spean Bridge has great view and enticing organic cuisine. The homemade raspberry jam is simply a gastronomic treasure and compliment to the yummy scone upon your arrival.

The stay at Inverness at a previous residence of Scottish writer Neil Gunn has add a writer to my enjoyable reading experience. The reading of his highland novels has tensified my travel experience in the Scottish highlands. These are the area where local expertize such as McKinlay Kidd has their comparative advantage to other larger operator.

Great holiday despite the weather

This was a rail tour of Scotland from Glasgow to Fort William, Isle of Skye, Inverness, Pitlochry & Edinburgh. My wife and I had a great time even though the weather was wet and windy, particularly when we were on Skye. The hotels were good and the arrangements worked well, even when Scotrail (the rail company) were on strike - the tour operator arranged replacement taxis.

Everything was arranged by email and we found the staff helpful and efficient. All the arrangements worked well and we would be very happy to use them again.

McKinlay Kidd did the bookings for the train travel, the hotels and pre-booked three tours, and sent a pack of goodies about three weeks before we travelled to suggest other things we might do on our free days. Interesting mix of chose-when-you-get-there and pre booked.

The easy way to do things

We travelled from Edinburgh via Thurso to the Orkneys and back to Inverness. Accommodation was great at all three places we stayed - Thurso, Kirkwall and Inverness and all travel went smoothly. We had a great package of information to help us enjoy our trip and a great day long guided tour that was personalised to include what we wanted to see on the Orkneys.

Peace, tranquility and adventure in wonderful Scotland

Holiday to four Scottish islands - Islay, Mull, Iona and Colonsey. Travelling by car and using the prebooked ferries. Weather was poor but everything else was great. Lots of beautiful [empty] beaches, opportunities for long walks and good coffee shops. People were unfailingly friendly and helpful. Loads of very high quality, unique and reasonably priced crafts.

Mackinley Kidd has one aim - that you have a great holiday with no hassle built around your individual requirements. Our Mackinley Kidd representative, Hamish, was outstanding, responding speedily and with good humour to our indecisiveness by making suggestions that led to a wonderful holiday. Planning and booking through Mackinley Kidd led to a much more interesting holiday than if we had carried out the bookings ourselves. Ferry and hotel bookings were seamless and we could be confident that the accommodation would be of a good standard.
