Perfect escape to the Islands

Short break in Orkney to delve a little deeper into these mystical islands. On arriving at a delightfully small airport met by our car hire agent, taken into Kirkwall to collect car fir the next 3 days. A warm welcome, clean car and local information given. Settled into our hotel, chosen by McKinlay Kidd and was not at all disappointed with the standard, friendliness and comfort.. Excellent restaurant where everything is locally sourced and home cooked. If you enjoy a tipple or two you will certainly not be disappointed with the vast selection of Whisky on offer. We had the Orkney Explorer pass in our 'well put together' information pack from McKinlay Kidd which meant we could enter many of the visitor sites with no money changing hands - perfect. Lucky with the weather, albeit windy but you can tell by the number of wind turbines it's pretty windy most of the time! Managed to get out and about and do most of the visits on our list. It was early October so not too busy, only found a couple of places closed for the season. For us this made it so much more of a peaceful and atmospheric walk around the Ring of Brodgar - it gave you a real sense of its historical origins. Also with skara Brae, alongside the desolate windswept beach you could almost hear the past calling out. Of course, needed to do a whisky tour and chose Highland Park, as it's right next to the hotel! The Tour was excellent, interesting and informative. Now I can impress anyone who cares to listen about my new found knowledge!

We've taken a number of holidays organised by McKinlay Kidd and all have been excellent. It's the thoughtfulness and detail that make the difference. We know that once we leave home, we are going to have a stress free time, their organisation is perfect.

A Wonderful Adventure

My husband and I spent a week touring Orkney's and Shetland at the end of September. The islands are beautiful and very interesting. Lots to see and do. Amazing countryside with good walks. Interesting historical sights with good visitor information attached to them. The main towns had excellent accommodation, restaurants, museums and shops We also enjoyed taking a side trip to Hoy and walking to "Old Man Hoy. We would return again.

They planned our trip with very short notice. Tom listened to my wishes and within 2 hours had the trip planned. Planning a trip from Canada was difficult to co-ordinade, ferries, planes, accommodation, car rental etc. McKinlay Kidd Holidays took the pain out of this chore. The information they gave us proved very useful and the trip hints of where to visit, walk and eat were excellent and helpful. We would use them again

McKinlay Kidd set up the holiday and did an outstanding job of putting together a memorable and exciting trip. They used first class travel and accomodations with a very reasonable cost and every step of the way was as promised. No delays or problems were encountered during the Scotland adventure.

Varied and interesting trip to Northumberland

Fabulous

Everything I feared - traffic, missing the ferry, being alone - didn't happen! Almost everything I hoped to see - I saw with the help of a brilliant network of locals set up by McKinlay Kidd. The hotel was excellent and I met the most diverse and wonderful fellow travellers.

I found McKinlay Kidd purely by chance as I googled for a wildlife holiday. This particular 'package' suited me exactly and they were so helpful about my worries. Carol even rang me to warn me of the route of a cycle race, giving me an alternative route! I happen to think the alternative was the best part of my journey, so I took it on the return too! It was just so smooth and well organised for my all too short holiday.

McKinlay Kidd furnished us with a great deal of information about our destinations and advice about what to see and do. We were extremely pleased with the high quality of the experiences, excursions, lodgings and their handling of the logistics. We felt we were being introduced to some of the best experiences Scotland offers (though I think that wonderful country's offerings are inexaustible).

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd's arrangements were meticulous and everything went very smoothly. They were responsive to our questions and concerns both while we were planning our trip and during our travels. The focus seemed to be on genuinely local and authentic experiences and providers, not mass-produced typical tourist stuff. The people we talked to who operate the excursions and lodgings seemed to have high regard for McKinlay Kidd (one commented 'they treat me really well') and being under their umbrella, so to speak, seemed to smooth our path in a number of ways. We felt well looked after. We will not hesitate to consult them again on future holidays.
