Scenic and Historic Delights

My husband and I travelled from New Zealand to the Shetland and Orkney islands- a long way to travel for the holiday of a lifetime. There was so much beauty and variety in such a small space - historic sites from prehistoric times, breathtaking scenery and warm and friendly locals. We loved every moment!

McKinlay Kidd delivered a wonderful fly-drive experience on the Shetland and Orkney islands. All the details were taken care of and our holiday went without a hitch with a high standard of accommodation and hire cars in both locations. Their local knowledge and promptness in responding to emails was outstanding.

A very well-organized guided tour of Orkney and Shetland

McKinlay Kidd can be recommended as very professional and helpful. We were provided with all necessary information for our holiday and we were very satisfied with the accommodation, guided tours, car-hire and air connections from Edinburgh.

Interesting!

The holiday fully met our expectations. It was perfectly organised, all of the accommodations were first class but still very different in character. We had absolutely no problems at all. The midges stayed away too.

This is the second time we have used them and we have been very satisfied on both occasions. The information provided prior to the holiday was very full and our dealings with office were friendly and straightforward .

A wonderful and fascinating holiday

Orkney and Shetland are beautiful and interesting, with breath-taking scenery, and numerous Neolithic sites.

Rating for tour operator:

McKinlay Kidd arranged our three days in Orkney and four on Shetland, plus car hires, flights, visitor passes and a boat trip. It all went like clockwork. The information pack they sent was extremely comprehensive, with several maps, guides, directions, detailed itinerary and, best of all, several pages of recommendations. The hotels and B&B were excellent and in perfect locations. The whole holiday could not be faulted - thank you.

Three Day Highlands Tour

I contacted McKinlay Kidd to organise the ultimate brief Scottish Highlands tour, as I had some additional time after a work trip in Europe, and had never seen Scotland before. MK arranged a three-day tour of the Highlands which included train travel from Glasgow, a return trip on the Jacobite Steam Train and wonderful accommodation. Definitely not long enough, as there is so much more to see, but it has certainly wet my appetite to return ...

Being from Australia, time difference made contact limited, but Tom at MK organised everything for me and the whole process was seamless. First class tickets for trains, amazing accommodation and awesome scenery made for a fabulous brief holiday. I definitely plan to return to Scotland, and look forward to some more exceptional service and experiences!

My significant other and I have wanted to visit Scotland for many years and when we finally decided to go, we reached out to McKinlay Kidd on the basis of a personal recommendation of a friend who took a Whisky Tour with them. Our goals were to visit and acquaint ourselves with Scotland and to visit my significant other's place of birth in Laurencekirk and to visit Speyside and the whiskey distilleries. After a few communicative emails back and forth with Robert, we had an agenda outlined that met our goals for travel in the limited week period of time we had. We enjoyed our first two days in Edinburg, drove up through St. Andrews and Dundee and stayed for a few nights Aboyne. The bed and breakfast on the River Dee was trylu fantastic and a great place to serve as a base to travel to castles in the area. We then stayed in Craigellachie and had a personal whisky tour that Robert arranged for us somewhat last minute. This was a truly amazing and valuable experience. We then returned to Glasgow for our flight home. Robert offered an agenda with suggestions for travel to and from our different locations and we relied on this but were able to individualize and get off the beaten track when we wished.

Rating for tour operator:

Robert at McKinlay Kidd was very responsive to questions and emails prior to our travels and was instrumental in helping us resolve an issue with our rental car company after we left the country. This type of experience assures I will reach out to McKinlay Kidd and Robert again in a year or two when hopefully we can go back spend more time and visit Islay and the western islands.
