Florence - six splendid days steeped in the Renaissance

I spent six days with a small group of twelve like-minded people and the company of Dr Roberto Cobianchi, our scholarly lecturer and delightful guide around the Renaissance art and architecture of Florence. We visited all the highlights from the Ufizzi (twice, allowing time for close focus on Fra Angelico, Piero della Francesca, Lippi, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci and Titian, amongst others) to the Bargello where we studied the sculpture of ...

We visited all the highlights from the Ufizzi (twice, allowing time for close focus on Fra Angelico, Piero della Francesca, Lippi, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci and Titian, amongst others) to the Bargello where we studied the sculpture of Donatello, Michelangelo and Verrocchio, to the many churches and chapels designed by Brunelleschi to Michelangelo's Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana. - - and much, much more. Six days gave us time to savour these highlights rather than feel visits were rushed or crammed in. We set off on foot each day from our hotel opposite Santa Maria Novella and were soon able to negotiate the very walkable centre of the city. One warm, sunny, February morning, we set off by taxi to see the early church of San Miniato al Monte where we also enjoyed a fine meal in the Loggia and superb views of Florence laid out beneath us before returning on foot to the city. It was a memorable stay, made even more pleasant with the company of a tour manager who was efficient and organised, allowing our visits to be hitch-free.

I have now experienced two Martin Randall tours, both in Italy, and they have been superb. The quality of lecturer, tour manager, hotel, travel arrangements etc are all excellent and clearly carefully selected and arranged. I have also done a Martin Randall London Day focusing on the City and its architecture where our guide was the ex-Chief City Planner - meals and breaks were all carefully planned and gave us added pleasure, for example, concluding the day with cocktails in the Sky Garden - what could be better?

We takes holidays several times a year with Martin Randall Travel because we have never had a bad one yet. The music involves international stars, the lecturers are well-known in their field (we had Stephen Johnson this time who is particularly good) and the administartors are attentive, helpful and constantly available.

A week at Christmas visiting artistic highlights in Verona, Padua and Mantua.

We have now been on about half a dozen Martin Randall trips. We have learnt that on MR trips we will stay in good hotels and have first-rate lecturers. There will be good meals in carefully chosen restaurants. The group size will never be too large and we know we will meet interesting people from varied backgrounds borought together by a common interest.

During their 30 years of existence, Martin Randall Travel has consistently raised the standard for cultural tours to Exceptional. Mr. Randall himself was at Heathrow at 7.30 a.m. on 20th December - just to keep an eye on things! Attention to detail is meticulous. These trips are not cheap (who wants cheap?) - they are firstclass value for money (who doesn't want that?)
