Tasting the best South Africa has to offer

We spent 10 nights driving from Durban to the Battlefields, experiencing the best of the Berg, Midlands and Battlefield areas, finishing with an excellent safari at Nambiti Hills.

Here at Cedarberg Africa we are also big fans of KwaZulu Natal. I'm glad that you enjoyed visiting the Anglo Zulu battle sites and that this and the safari were your highlights. We think the area is fascinating too.

top rate African adventure

Victoria Falls Zimbabwe exceeded expectations in a big way. Despite the negative publicity the country sometimes receives, we found the people and the facilities to be exceptional. The accommodation was excellent (I witnessed a crocodile take an impala at the waterhole below the hotel…when having a quiet moment and a coffee…!?!) and we’d definitely consider staying in the main hotel (Victoria Falls Safari Lodge) should we return in the future...

Victoria Falls Zimbabwe exceeded expectations in a big way. Despite the negative publicity the country sometimes receives, we found the people and the facilities to be exceptional. The accommodation was excellent (I witnessed a crocodile take an impala at the waterhole below the hotel…when having a quiet moment and a coffee…!?!) and we’d definitely consider staying in the main hotel (Victoria Falls Safari Lodge) should we return in the future. The canoe safari and the zipline activities were the group favourites (all 8 of us did the gorge swing, even our 12 year old daughter – thrilling but truly scary). The food throughout was excellent. The Lookout Café was memorable. Wild Horizons were very efficient and the guides/drivers were always helpful and friendly. Credit cards were accepted in the hotel, in most restaurants, and by Wild Horizons. Kasane The abundance of wildlife in Chobe NP is exceptional. However, the abundance of tourists in Kasane was also exceptional and made for a bit of a ‘Longleat’ atmosphere. The Safari Rooms in Chobe Safari Lodge were excellent. The boat safari and game drive, however, were too staged and too busy (8 safari vehicles crowded around one lion) to be properly enjoyable. We changed the second boat safari to a fishing trip and a Namibian Village Walk, which were much more enjoyable. The food in Chobe Safari Lodge was mediocre. The housekeeping, reception desk, and activity office staff were all excellent. Okavango Delta The inevitable highlight. The region lived up to its reputation (on the first morning, we watched three lions track a herd of buffalo for maybe an hour, before witnessing the kill from only 20m!). The safari crew were awesome: outstanding guide who really knew his stuff; really friendly, helpful camp crew; lots of energy from everyone; great & plentiful food; plentiful drinks; reliable and good size safari vehicle; comfy & warm beds; tents were clean and well equipped; nightly hot water bottles (bush babies) were a nice touch. Air Transport Both Air Botswana and South African Airlines were excellent: all flights departed and arrived on time; luggage was booked through both directions; Maun and Kasane aiports were very professional; the Jo’burg to Heathrow leg was on a brand new airbus.

Rating for tour operator:

Cedarberg Africa were professional, responsive, and personable at all times. All flights, all transfers, all accommodation, all activities, and the safari itself went exactly to plan. The experience, end-to-end, exceeded all expectations.

This was such a fun holiday for us to assist with; two families travelling together so that they were able to take a mobile safari in Botswana on an exclusive basis. We really enjoyed putting this together and are so pleased the families enjoyed it as much as we hoped.

Cedarberg understood our totally unique requirements from the very first conversation.

This trip to Zimbabwe exceeded out expectations and brochure photos cannot do it justice, what a wonderful destination. Above all we loved the people, their huge welcome and smiley natures. Their desire to please and their wish that every thing be perfect does come true.

So pleased that everything went well. It is great to once again see really positive comments about Zimbabwe, one of Africa's most rewarding safari destinations.

Tailor made trip to Uganda, gorilla trekking

This is the second holiday that Ginny and her team have arranged for us, and once again the service and attention to detail were excellent. Ginny put together a wonderful tailor made itinerary for our trip, and her recommendations were absolutely perfect in enhancing the trip. In today's world of being able to arrange most things yourself, I have no doubt that there is no way we could have put together a trip like this, you need the depth of local knowledge that Cedarberg have. I thoroughly recommend Cedarberg Travel The Close Up Chimp experience in Entebbe, at the UWEC, was worth every one of the vaccinations you had to have. It truly was a magical experience, and another reason for booking through Cedarberg who suggested this 'excursion'. We met so many people on our trip who would have loved the experience but their travel operator had not told them about it. There are no words to describe the gorilla trekking, it was toughish - but it was a once in a lifetime experience that we feel privileged to have taken part in.

I remember raving about my gorilla trekking and the chance to interact with chimpanzees with this lovely couple a few years back. I know the idea really appealed but they could not spare the time. So I was almost as excited they were on the day of their departure - they got to also experience one of the most amazing wildlife encounters of my life!

Cedarberg Africa responded to this review on 02 Jul 2015:

Now three of the Cedarberg Africa team have also experienced gorilla trekking; one lucky person has done it twice in both Rwanda and Uganda. That really helps us to recommend the right trip.

Excellent organisation resulting in seamless travel over three weeks, 6 venues and 10 flights.

We booked a special trip to celebrate and we went to 4 safari camps in Botswana, and 2 hotels in Cape Town. The holiday was very diverse, as we had requested, and the game viewing and camps were excellent., as the saying goes, exactly what it said on the tin!! Thank you to Ginny and her team for organising such a great trip.

Thanks so much for your feedback. We are so pleased that you had a good time, especially as one of our carefully selected hotels unfortunately burned down so soon before the trip - AND you'd had the foresight to book a full year ahead! Forward planning makes such a difference!

A wonderful holiday that exceeded our expectations in celebrating an anniversary

A two-stage trip that took in Cape Town for 4 nights and 3 nights in the Amakhala Game Reserve staying at the Hlosi Lodge. Flying into Cape Town and out via Jo'burg.

Excellent wine tasting at numerous wine estates around Franshooek and Constantia.Easy driving on well made roads with good directions but few distances on road signs.Very helpful people pretty much everywhere, just take normal precautions when out and about. I always felt safe but then I didn't venture to far from the main tourist areas.
