Great Glen Way

We started from Forth William to Inverness. The track was not difficult to follow. The signs were clear. We saw beautiful scenery. The lodging was comfortable and the hosts were helpful and friendly. Although we took the high route it was a very enjoyable track .We already recommended it to our friends and to those who wish to do it.

WE are happy with the tour operator as they gave us all the information needed. Took care of our luggage to be transferred from host to host before we arrived .

Wonderful walk and weather in Wales

8 days and 200km walk along Offa's Dyke path in dry, mild weather. Varied landscape, wonderful views, not really as spectacular as other walks but very enjoyable. The path is well marked and maintained. Each B&B had a lot of character and they were so different. All was perfectly organised by absolute escapes.

Scotland and Borders country, UK.

We did a self drive tour on Mull, Iona and Skye over a week or so, followed by 3 days in Edinburgh and then walking St Cuthberts Way and part of St Oswalds Way, from Melrose down to Warkworth.

Andy Gabe from Absolute Escapes organised all accommodation, baggage transfers, car hires etc for our trip and the organisation at his end was very detailed and helpful, including extensive mapping, documentation and local guides for the walks, meaning that we didn't get lost once! I also asked Andy for some personal requests which he was very happy to include in our itinerary. Would definitely use the company again.

Absolute Escapes responded to this review on 07 Jun 2016:

Thank you very much for your review, Steve and Jane. It was a real pleasure to assist with the arrangements for your trip, and you were certainly able to see some lovely and interesting parts of Scotland and northern England. I was delighted to hear that everything went well with your trip and please don't hesitate to contact us again if we can assist in the future. Best wishes, Andy Gabe

Convenient schedule for age challenged hikers

We did the nine day trekking schedule on the West Highland Way. The youngest of our group was 60 and the oldest 70, and the nine day schedule includes several shorter hiking days which we appreciated. We had a couple days of rain, but overall the weather was probably better than average. We stopped at the distillery on the first day and did the short tour - a nice diversion. The sections on the bank of Loch Lomond and from Bridge of Orchy north were particularly beautiful scenically. We hiked in mid May, and there were very few bugs.

Rating for tour operator:

The luggage transfer was without any problems. We chose the standard option for lodging, which is mostly small B&Bs and all were perfectly adequate. Had a small problem the first day in that the hotel had inadvertently not been paid, and the operator fixed the problem very promptly though it was a weekend.

Many thanks for taking the time to send us some feedback Joyce, it is much appreciated. We were pleased to hear that you enjoyed the experience, and hope you all feel a sense of achievement on completing this walk! Sorry to hear about the small problem with the Hotel - I'm glad it was dealt with promptly and hope it didn't inconvenience you too much. With best wishes, from Amanda and the team

Hadrian's Wall end to end

Wonderful to experience cities, rolling pastures, quaint towns, the crags, and of course, the history of the wall, all in one trip!

West Highland Wonderland

We were part of a group from Vermont who like to walk and walk we did! The West Highland Way was spectacular in its diversity, the weather extremely cooperative, and the walkers we met along the way were so interesting. Full Scottish breakfasts fueled us throughout the day and each evening we received a warm reception and were able to find a hot meal and cool pint in a variety of settings. It was a great experience and the perfect time of year!

In particular, the natural beauty of Scotland and the warm people that served as our hosts at the many hotels, and B&B's along the way. We were overwhelmed at times with the amount of food served at breakfast and admittedly this became a standing joke among our group. The mere mention of "Will you be having the "Full Scottish Breakfast, would bring a myriad of reactions not all of them good ones! Needless to say despite our hours of walking each day one meal of that and it carried up through and then some! It was in a word, a wonderful experience and one of the most memorable events of my life.

Rating for tour operator:

Everything was absolutely the way it was supposed to happen. I never met them, but they had everything in perfect order. Luggage was always on time, taxi waiting on time at the end. All buttoned up.

Absolute Escapes responded to this review on 06 Jun 2016:

Thank you very much for taking the time to write us a review after completing your West Highland Way walk, Elizabeth. A full Scottish breakfast is a wonderful thing! I certainly recognise your description of the overwhelming amount of food served but it's all part of the experience, and we won't want you to walk on an empty stomach! If we can ever tempt you into another adventure then please don't hesitate to contact us again - it'd be our pleasure. Best wishes, Sine Nielsen

Excellent

Great Glen Path well marked and well maintained. Better than WHW. Did high route on fourth day but not fifth. Bicycles a nuisance as they give no notice (bell, call etc) before arriving, nearly had collision when doing minor first aid after a fall and 2 cyclists only just missed us. ...

Bicycles a nuisance as they give no notice (bell, call etc) before arriving, nearly had collision when doing minor first aid after a fall and 2 cyclists only just missed us. At Corpach we purchased the canal loo key for £10 and found it was well worth having it. Returned it to keeper of swing bridge at Inverness. Inverness was a lovely city to end. The route in over the islands and beside the Ness was attractive, and the city itself was easy to get around and had a number of attractions and shops.

Rating for tour operator:

Absolute escapes organised our trip very well getting us twin beds everywhere and baths where possible overnight. Their instructions and notes were accurate and helpful and map and guide provided ensured we never lost the path. We would have liked information on possible division of last section into two ten mile sections (in seven days) rather than 20 miles on the last sixth day. This was too much for my feet but husband enjoyed doing it in 7 hours. Best accommodation was Glengarry Hotel and Invermoriston Hotel. Best food was at Russell's/Smiddys B & B, but room was small and very cluttered. Glen kirk B& B at Drumnadroick was comfortable, but owner seemed prejudiced against walkers and was deliberately unhelpful. Moyness Guest House in Inverness was excellent and also went out of their way to help.

Absolute Escapes responded to this review on 31 May 2016:

Many thanks for your detailed feedback Hazel, it is very much appreciated. Glad to hear you enjoyed the quiet atmosphere on the trail, it's certainly very different to the WHW. And I'm sorry that we didn't make our easier itinerary options a bit clearer in the beginning, it sounds like our GGW3 itinerary (which splits that 20 mile day in half) might have suited you better. Do let us know if you're tempted by a third Scottish walking trail in the future! Kind Regards, James
