Wonderful sights in Iran and lovely people

We went on a tour of Iran taking in Shiraz, Yazd, Isfahan and Tehran. The sights, especially the mosques were wonderful and we received a warm welcome from Iranians. Getting a visa is a hassle for British passport holder but worth the hassle. Go before it gets over-run.

Our tour operator, Wild Frontiers, downgraded 3 out of 4 hotels just four days before departure without even an offer of compensation. The guide they provided was supposed to be "an experienced English speaking guide" but by his own admission this was his second trip with international tourists and he had failed the English entrance test for other Iranian travel agencies.

Wild Frontiers responded to this review on 21 Dec 2016:

Thank you for your feedback Martin, we are delighted you enjoyed the sites and people of Iran. Regarding accommodation - this Autumn has been the busiest period for tourism in Iran for a decade and as a result demand for hotels is currently outstripping supply. This means that occasionally accommodation is changed at short notice. We are sorry that this happened to you on this occasion, and although we offered a similar, sometimes higher ranked hotel, we understand your frustration that some of your first choice hotels were not available and therefore agreed compensation with you for this.

We are also sorry to learn of the negative experience that you had with the guide. We pride ourselves on using high quality, qualified and experienced guides, and are sorry that you didn't feel your guide was up to standard. Fortunately, we were able to change the guide halfway through your tour and also agreed compensation with you for your dissatisfaction up to that point. Thank you again for travelling with us. Best wishes from all Wild Frontiers.

Three week guided tour - Rajasthan Explorer.

My husband and I traveled for three weeks with two other travelers, a fabulous guide (Tejenda Singh) and very good driver, from Delhi, to Agra and then around Rajasthan. The itinerary was excellent, including block busters (Taj Mahal), safaris in nature sanctuaries, and visits to small villages off the beaten track. Also, accommodations and food were excellent - we often stayed in palaces of former Maharajahs. Wild Frontiers arranged for local guides for museums, palaces and forts, providing income to locals and also our guide made small payments to locals who showed us their villages etc. All of this added to our enjoyment while supporting local economies. Wild Frontiers provided a comfortable mini-bus for our trip, but we also traveled by train, boat and camel. We thought everything about the tour was first class and highly recommend Wild Frontiers.

Rating for tour operator:

Wild Frontiers is a first-class operation. They provided excellent pre-trip materials, addressing all of our questions and concerns (this was our first trip to India). They built a terrific itinerary where we saw the big highlights but got off the beaten track. Our guide (Tejendra Singh) was first-rate and the trip was well priced.

A well organised holiday to a country little known and unjustly maligned

Iran is a country that will confound expectations. The people are amazingly friendly and welcoming. The countryside - mountains, deserts, is stunning. The food is good, very good in fact. You will come back as an ambassador for the country.

Madagascar Encompassed - a true adventure

A brilliant three week trip by minibus, boat and 4WD around the southern half of Madagascar. Watching the world go by on the Tsiribihina River, an adventurous drive down the west coast to see the sea and the baobab trees and up through the central highlands for the lemurs, chameleons and other wildlife. Madagascar truly encompassed.

I have travelled with Wild Frontiers several times to diverse places. Their small group tours are well organised with out of the ordinary and off the beaten track itineraries. They are always on the lookout for new destinations for their clients to explore.

An adventure in Madagascar seeing people, places, markets, beaches, unique animals and flora, and spectacular scenery.

Three weeks of uncomfortable driving on dreadful roads and river crossings took us to the most magnificent places. Unique animals, the lemurs, the baobab trees, villages, markets, beautiful sandy beaches, breathtaking views. And unexpectedly comfortable hotels and top class restaurants.

Discovering Madagascar

We feel privileged to have been able to visit Madagascar, a unique island with extraordinary vegetation, rock formations, landscapes and fauna. The traveling is quite tough at times but the lemurs, the children welcoming us everywhere with their big smiles and cheers 'Salut Vasa' will stay with us for ever

Wild Frontiers aim to give their travellers more than the standard tourist experience, wherever they take you. The organisation of the Iran trip was sometimes affected by circumstances beyond their control, but we still had a great time.

Madagascar adventure

Not a trip for the feint hearted with some long, rough overland travel, boat trips and wild camping. However lots of variety and adventure including via ferrata climbing, strenuous walks, bird and wildlife spotting in National Parks and visits to local communities in extremely isolated locations. Widely variable accommodation but all adequate and some very special. Good food and friendly people.
