K2 Base Camp in Pakistan by Johnny, 26 Aug 2018

K2 Base Camp Trek.

A 220 kms return walk up the Baltoro Glacier to Concordia then Broad Peak Base Camp, lastly it was on to the base of K2. A challenging hike that was constantly rewarded with stunning rock and ice scenery akin to being in a different world. You won't see anything like this anywhere in this World.

Hard but rewarding 3 week trek to Concordia and K2 Base Camp

A challenging 18 day trek from Askole to Concordia and K2 Base Camp with a 5 day walk out back down the Baltoro Glacier. The itinerary takes c 9 days to reach Concordia but it is worth the effort; the views with good weather are simply astounding with 21 7000m peaks within a 360 panorama with the unparalleled K2 standing alone at the head of the ...

A completely self sufficient and remote camping trek that involves c. 10 days of glacier walking. The itinerary takes c 9 days to reach Concordia but it is worth the effort; the views with good weather are simply astounding with 21 7000m peaks within a 360 panorama with the unparalleled K2 standing alone at the head of the Godwin Austen Glacier. The Mountain Company and their local operator worked extremely hard to ensure the trip ran smoothly and their detailed and experienced approach worked well, in particular, having a Mountain Company UK leader working with the local operator.

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company have a very detailed and methodical approach that ensures everything is well planned. The logistics on arrival in Pakistan, flights to Skardu, jeeps to Askole and the return journey went without problem. Their relationship with the local operator was excellent. Their approach to safety was the best I’ve seen with satellite phones, GPS plotter and an extremely comprehensive medical kit + Gammow Bag ( for emergency AMS ). I’d highly recommend The Mountain Company for future treks.

K2 Base Camp Magic

The Mountain Company organised our amazing Trek to K2 Base Camp, Pakistan. The trek is tough over glacial moraine but the spectacular scenery made every step worthwhile. Travelling in Pakistan is remarkably easy and felt quite safe.

Both the Western Leader (Jo) and the local leader (Zahid) were exceptional with a strong focus on quality and safety ..... and having great time! They were well supported by amazing local men. The Mountain Company is the most organised trekking company I have been with. Pre-trek communication is excellent, all questions are answered promptly, service and facilities during the trek are exemplary and safety is a high priority including satellite phones, comprehensive medical kits, a Gamow bag, clear leadership and good support from the UK when out on the trek. The ability of the family at home to track our trek was also really positive.

Trek up to K2 base camp along the Baltoro glacier, camping along the way. Then up and over the Gondogoro La, with spectacular views of K2, Broad Peak, G1 and G2. Finally, trek down to Hushe.

Roland Hunter remains as personable and committed as ever to his clients and company. Almas, Chandra Rai and Jo are highly professional managers and accomplished grass roots troubleshooters!

Their pre-trip information was excellent-both accurate and detailed. All my advance enquiries were answered fully and promptly. The trek itself was very well organised and every effort was made to ensure our group (10 in number) got the maximum enjoyment from the trip (in sometimes very difficult conditions both in terms of remoteness and climate).

Everest Base Camp - so much for the rest fo the Bucket List

This was a culmination of a number of adventures undertaken by someone old enough to know better. This was a culmination of a number of adventures undertaken by someone old enough to know better. As a septuagenarian, I think I was saving the best until last, I certainly don't know now what I can do to top it. The tour was structured so very well, and our guide judged our ability admirably. Although we had trained hard for it, there is no substitute for doing a trek like this at high altitude. The Everest region is the most unspoilt and remarkable place I have seen in many years of travelling, and will forever occupy a place in my mind, and my heart.

Rating for tour operator:

The Mountain Company came recommended by a friend, and rightly so. Our guide ensured we got away to and from Lukla airport on time, when others were less fortunate because of the weather. We did so because we were first there and as anyone who knows the region, mornings are clearest. The lodges chosen were as good as any I imagine are available unless one is opting for luxury travel, and the overnight stops were planned to allow us to acclimatise properly, with the 'days off' used to climb high, sleep low. We will probably never know if it was this or the Diamox, or a combination of the two which prevented us suffering from altitude sickness, but the fact that we didn't is testament to the tour operators experience and pre-tour advice. The latter included recommendations on the kit we would need, and because of our age, they insisted on a sensible vetting process. The fact that we achieved our goal is in no small measure down to this and the preparation beforehand. I would not hesitate to recommend The Mountain Company to anyone.
