The voyage with Peter Sommer's was relaxing but also remarkable for the visits to key archaeological sites on the Dalmatia Islands. Mislav, our guide, had personal knowledge of the Islands and showed incredible enthusiasm for the history of the Islands. A fabulous excursion.

Gulet cruise of the Southern Dalmatians - from Dubrovnik to Split
We had a wonderful time aboard the gulet "Croatia" with our party of three, six fellow voyagers and our fabulous guide, Filip. The experience was breathtaking and the weather perfect (although we were told cooler than typical, perfect for us). Cruising, exploring the islands, watersports, dining aboard and just laying about and sunning on the foredeck or curling up with a book at the stern was healing and renewing. We enjoyed the sites and learned much of the incredible history of the eastern Adriatic - a place worthy of more than one visit from us, which it will definitely have in the future!

Peter Sommer Travels is really about Peter Sommer. He has curated all of the trips that his company organizes and is passionate about hiring the right vessels and guides. But more than that, this period of the great COVID pandemic has tested every business, and none more so than those in the travel industry. We had originally booked our trip two years before we actually went on it. And when the pandemic stood in our way, Peter and Julie kept in regular contact, honored all the financial arrangements, dealt with necessary changes smoothly and - ultimately - saw us off on a wonderful holiday when the world reopened. This period was indeed a test - and Peter Sommer Travel passed with flying colors and then some. They are honorable, first-rate people who take a genuine interest in their product and their clients. We recommend them to all without reservation.

Cruising the Lycian Shore
An amazing combination of visiting educational archeological sites with a brilliant archeologist and swimming, kayaking and snorkeling beautiful clear waters. A beautiful Turkish Gulet was our home for two weeks and the food was above all expectations, cooked and presented by our Turkish chef.

This is our fourth trip with Peter Sommer Travels and each one has been perfectly designed and executed. We have loved every one. Attention to all details is perfect and the skill of the tour directors is fantastic. A wonderful learning experience coupled with relaxing free time. The Turkish Gulet's that were our home for two weeks had great accomodations and food beyond compare. In all, just great trips.

Nice blend of relaxation and sightseeing
Accommodations on the gulet Croatia were above my expectations. The gulet was very well maintained and looked beautiful. I was worried there wouldn't be comfortable places to sit, but I shouldn't have worried. There were 8 other guests and we had plenty of room to spread out. The back of the gulet has comfortable, cushioned seating with shade. My favorite times were when we were motoring for a few hours, it was very relaxing to sit in the ...

The back of the gulet has comfortable, cushioned seating with shade. My favorite times were when we were motoring for a few hours, it was very relaxing to sit in the back and watch the other boats go by. The land excursions were very well planned and executed. Our guide was personable and very knowledgeable. The food and service on the gulet were excellent, our crew was terrific. Cabins were well appointed and the bathroom was bigger than I expected it would be. All in all, a wonderful vacation!

Peter Sommer Travels was excellent to work with. They answered every question I had before the trip (and I had quite a few!). They went the extra mile (or kilometer) to make sure my vacation went flawlessly. I really appreciated that they provided onboard COVID testing for those of us who needed to be tested before we could fly back to our home countries. That was a wonderful perk. I wouldn't hesitate to book another vacation with them.

Magical trip in a gulet along the Dalmatian coast
In a charming wooden gulet, which attracted much admiration from passers-by, we sailed along the Dalmatian coast calling in to delightful towns such as Zadar, Sibenik and Trogir and visiting some lesser known but fascinating sights such as Bribir fortress and the island town on Nin, guided and entertained by Filip, a highly knowledgeable and personable guide, in enjoyable company and well looked after by a friendly and attentive crew

Peter Sommer is a specialist in archaeological and historical holidays, with expert guides, although at a level accessible to the amateur, and with plenty of opportunity for enjoyment and relaxation as well as information and education

Wonderful scenery, history, hospitality and expertise (as we have come to expect from Peter Sommer)
We spent a week walking sections of Hadrian's Wall, pausing at sites to hear them and the history come alive from our guides, both obviously expert and passionate about the history and archaeology of the area. One of us, a retired archaeologist, had walked the whole wall before, so he was looking forward mainly to the landscape and exercise, but he found there was a surprising amount he had passed by before. One of us, a retired archaeologist, had walked the whole wall before, so he was looking forward mainly to the landscape and exercise, but he found there was a surprising amount he had passed by before. At lunch and in the evening, we were booked into a variety of excellent pubs and restaurants, and the hotel was lovely, unique, set in lovely peaceful grounds. Altogether a great holiday

We discovered Peter Sommer tours as we heard one of their guides taking a party around the palace of Knossos in Crete. He was giving the best tour we'd ever seen (and we've seen and given a few). We found out that he was working for Peter Sommer and the next year we booked ourselves onto a walking and sailing holiday and found it even better than we'd hoped for.

A really fantastic way to learn all about Hadrian's Wall.
I've always wanted to learn more about Hadrian's Wall and this is a fantastic way to do that. I learned so much and our tour guide was simply excellent - giving us both sides of disputed issues, and other (non-Roman) history of the area, which was excellent too. He really brought the history of the Wall to life! And walking it is a lovely way to achieve that.

History and outstanding scenery in one holiday
I was nervous about my first ever walking holiday but needn't have been. The trips were manageable with lots of breaks whilst we heard about the history of the places we stopped. Our guide shared his knowledge is an amusing way which made it much more interesting. We walked through some amazing scenery and saw some wonderful sites.

We were sent all the information we needed before the trip and any questions were answered very quickly. We had complete confidence in them.

At last! I made it!
Hadrian’s Wall has always intrigued me being a Northerner … Covid had met it’s match - so to speak. It did not deter Peter Sommer Travels. In spite of the obvious restrictions in force, our Tour went ahead! The company made life easier with patience and thoughtfulness and agility to get things sorted out. That was before we began! It was a superb trip… a world tour! I loved it!! We have been with Paul on another “Exploring tour”. He is an ...

We have travelled with Peter Sommer Travels on three previous occasions. They always take care in detailed planning, so, leaving it to their expertise, you have nothing to worry about.

Hadrian's Wall and so much more! Filled a lacuna (no - a LAKE!) in my knowledge of our history!
It was touch and go. Would the Covid rules let us go? Sadly, they didn't allow the international folk to come. We were thus a small, privileged vanguard group of PST travellers, emerging after a long lock-down, and enjoying, for me, at 80, for the first time, the gorgeous Northumbrian countryside and these amazing remains of our island history. We've now had the same tour leader twice. His knowledge of his subject is encyclopaedic. Very nice ...

We've now had the same tour leader twice. His knowledge of his subject is encyclopaedic. Very nice hotel and excellent pub lunch venues, coping well with the Covid rules. You need to be reasonably fit and you might need walking poles, an umbrella and/or waterproofs. If you go by train (book advance first-class) from London to Carlisle and then across country, and back from Newcastle, there are fine views all the way.

We've been on three previous tours with Peter Sommer Travels. All, including this one, have been excellent. The planning - the chosen venues in terms of the daytime visits, the accommodation and meals, the lecturer/guide, and the transport have all worked well. The information supplied is helpful and timely. Not cheap, but what you get exceeds our expectations!
