Ligurian Hills by Colin, 15 Jul 2018
Holiday Rating:

Remote and ancient paths accompanied by birdsong and butterflies.

We walked the Salt Route through the Ligurian Hills. We hardly saw a soul for a whole week on the route which followed old mule tracks, some very attractive ridges and through old forests. Some of the paths were the most attractive we've ever walked. The range of places we stayed varied considerably and gave a very interesting variety from high standard hotels to simple albergos.

On Foot were a very friendly and responsive company to deal with. The route notes and maps were thorough and accurate and the support on the walk, although not needed in our case, was easily available.

Fantastic Holiday to Corfu and Vikos Gorge

We had 3 nights at the beautiful Bella Venezia Hotel in Corfu town and then transferred to the Greek mainland and travelled by bus and taxi to the mountainous Zagoria region. The walking or Corfu was good and Corfu town is a real gem and not to be missed but we just loved the unspoilt Zagori mountains. This was our third holiday with On Foot Holidays and they are excellent. Staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Their choice of accommodation is perfect. Each hotel or B&B was faultless - great locations, beautiful buildings, lovely rooms, good food and all run by people who want you to have a great time and go out of their way to provide help. All arrangements worked well, transfer and travel details were precise and accurate and explained exactly what to do, where to go and how much it would cost. Walking notes are very easy to follow and give you complete confidence you will find the way.

Classic Slovenia by Slinglow, 11 Jul 2018

This was the fourth walking holiday my wife Judith and I have taken with On Foot and thay have all been marvellous.

We walked from near Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital, to Trieste in Italy over a period of 5 days, through changing scenery and wildflower meadows, taking in Predjama Castle, a gourmet dinner one evening, wine tasting one day en-route and one day visiting the Skocjan caves (all pre-arranged by On Foot). On Foot arrange a mix of hotels, B&Bs and farms to stay at, some providing dinners with their own home produced food and wine. We carry daypacks ...

On Foot arrange a mix of hotels, B&Bs and farms to stay at, some providing dinners with their own home produced food and wine. We carry daypacks during the walks and On Foot arrange for our main luggage to be taken to the next place. We have never been disappointed (except for some iffy weather, which not even On Foot can control!) We are now thinking which of all the tempting routes available we should select for our fifth holiday with them.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot meticulously research each of their European holiday destinations; the walk itself, the local reps and the places you stay at. Really professional firm and nice people too. New routes are being added to their list of choices.

Northern Italian Lakes Walking Holiday

Walking holiday around and between two Northern Italian lakes from the old grand tour circuit. Beautiful scenery, comfortable hotels, and a great two-night stop on top of a hill with an incredible restaurant/guest house. The track feels well-worn (no sense of being remote or away from other tourists), but for good reason - it was a lovely walk, and the lakeside towns are long-time tourist areas.

Everything went perfectly smoothly. All travel advice and route notes were excellent; everything as specified. We were treated well at all of our destinations, which speaks well of the tour organizer.

A well-prepared walking pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain.

The additional information and local maps provided by the tour operator were clear and well used. Our hosts were all obliging, friendly and offered us different menus for breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately we used the facilities to dry clothing at the end of some days but one was helpful and mended a walking pole for us too.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays of Salisbury provided a friendly, professional and thoroughly-researched package for us and our needs. They were very happy for us to visit the office and discuss any concerns that we had; emails and phone calls were answered quickly and efficiently. The walking packs they provide are comprehensive and clear, giving detailed background information, guidance notes and the mobile number for the English-speaking local contact, who responded when needed.

A five day walk in the Yorkshire Dales

We walked an unguided five day walk organised by On Foot Holidays. A steep and rugged climb up to a hilltop called Simon's Seat on the first day gave wonderful views of the landscape to follow. The walks then took us through a variety of landscapes; high moorland and low, lush vales often walking beside rivers and through fields of wild flowers and sheep. The highlight was climbing above Malham Tarn and then descending to Malham Cove on day four...

The highlight was climbing above Malham Tarn and then descending to Malham Cove on day four. Each night was spent in a carefully selected village on the route, staying in small but charming inns and hotels offering a variety of delicious food. We were blessed with glorious weather all week which added to the enjoyment of the walking and the views.

Rating for tour operator:

The team at On Foot Holidays went out of their way to assist with arranging transport at each end of the walk. Their walking guide notes and maps were clear and easy to understand, such that we never felt in danger of becoming lost. On Foot's local back-up team were also keen to assist with phoned advice and recommendations the evening before we set off. The team were always friendly, the luggage arrangements smooth and the pre-booked accommodation always welcoming. We have completed 3 previous unguided walks with this Operator and continue to enjoy every part of the experience, from the planning to the actual walking.

Catalonia: El Priorat by Ishbel, 27 Jun 2018
Holiday Rating:

A challenging but immensely satisfying walk in El Priorat, Catalonia.

We did a 10 day self guided walked from Montblanc to Porrera. This is a little visited area of Spain and we were almost alone on the trails in spectacular scenery. While more challenging that I expected, the weather was good, the wild flowers in bloom, and it was a wonderful holiday. We spent an extra day at the end to do some wine tasting at the excellent Cal Pla Cellar.

This is my second On Foot holiday and again I was very impressed by the level of support they gave us. Their selection of accommodation is also very good. I will certainly use them again.

Andalucia by Jazzy-B, 26 Jun 2018

Tough but very rewarding (and spectacular) hiking!

We loved our off the grid Andalucian hiking holiday. Really couldn't fault it. The organisation was top-knotch and the accommodation was better than we'd expected. The scenery was gorgeous and we pretty much never saw another soul for the entire 8 days - exactly what we'd hoped for, and would definitely sign on for another one!
