Beautiful Walking in the hills of Catalonia

Fantastic walks, well off the beaten path. We barely saw another person during our hikes. The scenery was amazing and although the weather was cloudy and sometimes rainy we still thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Our first On Foot Holiday and was everything we hoped for and more. Very helpful Home Office Staff, always prompt and helpful with replies to my e-mails. The walkers pack was very useful in preparing for our trip. All the details of our routes, transfers and meals were expertly organized and there were no issues during our holiday. Our accommodations were comfortable and the various hosts we met we all very friendly. The routes themselves were amazing!

Untouched Portugal

Our 3-day hike through northern Portugal brought a sense of awe and wonder like no other. The countryside was amazing, the people warm and friendly. The weather was perfect (early October) for spending the day outside.

On Foot Holidays answered all our questions immediately and completely as we prepared for our trip. And we didn't have that many questions because their up-front communication was so good. Every detail of our trip was attended to - we did not have to worry about a thing. The accommodations were lovely. Each place gave us a unique insight into the villages we visited. On Foot is a 5-star organization.

We could not have hoped for a better introduction to self-guided walking

We did an On Foot self-guided walking holiday in Northern Portugal. The walk took us along a Roman road through the Parque Nacional da Peneda-Geres, in the north east corner of Portugal . We did the shorter version of the walk which was over three days (four nights) starting in Brufe and ending at Santa Maria do Bouro. There was a huge variety of scenery which included long vistas down to colourful valleys with mountain peaks in the distance, boulders the size of houses, mountain streams and wooded glades. Accommodation included a converted stone cottage with a traditional Portuguese bread oven inside, a village albergia (basic hotel stop over), a quinta (small chateau), and the superbly comfortable Pousada at Santa Maria do Bouro which had been built from the ruins of a 13th century monastery. Walking was relatively easy with cumulative climbs each day of around 400 metres and daily distances ranging from 11km to 21km. We were extremely lucky with the weather which was 25 degrees or above every day; we were told that this was much hotter than usual for late October in northern Portugal. Overall, we could not have hoped for a better introduction to self-guided walking.

On Foot gave us a very personal service from the beginning. After our initial inquiry it took them 2 to 3 days to confirm that the accommodation would be available for the dates we wanted to go. We were sent a very informative pack which included ways of getting to and from the airport at the beginning and end of the walk, our itinerary, detailed notes and maps for each day's walking, a description of the area we would be walking in, and name and phone number of a local contact if we needed any help when we were away. We were also sent a link to the GPS system that On Foot use with maps for our three days walking pre-loaded on the system. Whenever we contacted On Foot, we got through to a person who knew all about our booking and we were phoned by On Foot the day before we travelled to check that there was nothing we were uncertain about. There were no hitches at all on the holiday - all owners of accommodation expected us, pre-booked taxis met us, luggage transfers worked seamlessly and route maps took us where we needed to go - and we had the comfort of knowing there was a local contact even though in practice we did not need to contact him.

A lovely walking holiday

A group of friends spent 4 days walking in Yorkshire enjoying good weather, lovely scenery, a varied landscape, and even salmon leaping. We had great food and good accommodation. We had a unique experience with our needs very well met.

They were excellent. When booking, they listened to our particular requirements, responded in a quick, friendly and positive way, thinking of good solutions for those joining us late or leaving early and they did all the extra work. The accommodation met our specific needs and we were provided with detailed walk instructions for every day as well as maps. We were well supported every day, with texts and calls to make sure we had all that we needed to make the most of our holiday. And they went the extra mile, for example, we were reunited with some clothing left behind before we had even missed it.

Wonderful walk in Slovenian Karst region

Me and my wife, both 70+, have enjoyed the OnFootHolidays walks for quite a few years already. This year's walk in Slovenia was not one of the more challenging, but gave us much to remember - beatiful countryside, wonderful people, excellent food and wine.

Rating for tour operator:

We think that the concept that OnFoot offers, walking with daypacks only etc, is superior and suites us very fine. They have plenty of alternatives for walks in many countries in Europe. The support they include for our walks is superior, so logistics have been flawless. Also they have always been so helpful and friendly. In short it is both fun and practical to use OnFoot. They have never disappointed us!

Galicia: Lighthouse Way by Papa, 3 Oct 2018

Unique walk along the Galician Coast of Death - the Lighthouse Way.

Six of us had an excellent walking holiday in September, organised by On Foot Holidays. We spent 7 nights on a linear walk along the Lighthouse Way in Galicia, Northern Spain. It was a unique walk through magnificent coastal scenery. Some of the walking was quite challenging, but it was always very exhilarating to walk along the cliffs and across wonderful sandy beaches. The little towns/villages where we overnighted all had their own character.

On Foot Holidays' organisation was impeccable. They provided very comprehensive Walkers’ Packs, detailed instructions and good maps, as well as helpful hints about which beaches were safe. The accommodation was excellent and we had the daily support through On Foot Holidays of a Spanish contact who knew the walk and gave us daily weather reports and other useful information - a service we have never before encountered with a walking tour provider.
