Authentic France countryside walking

I had a wonderful holiday walking in the upper Dordogne region of France. Using a variety of walking paths and quiet country lanes, I visited many small, yet charming, villages in the region as well as the world-class town of Rocamadour. Using a variety of walking paths and quiet country lanes, I visited many small, yet charming, villages in the region as well as the world-class town of Rocamadour. I used several rest days along the route to just "be a local" and was pleasantly surprised by the excellence of the cuisine at even the smallest of hotels along the way. Walking in late September, I enjoyed cooler weather with only one rainy day.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays was excellent throughout. They were quite helpful in arranging extra days along the route, as well as providing top-quality route maps and notes. Their local contact provided last-minute updates to a changed part of the route in addition to the already informative notes. She also made contact during an especially challenging weather day to check whether I needed assistance. All accommodations along the way were friendly and quite comfortable. I always felt the personal touch in all my communications with On Foot.

Umbria with On Foot by Peter H, 1 Jan 2022

Walking in the footsteps of St Francis

We walked for a week in the Umbrian sunshine, following paths originally walked by St Francis of Assisi. The walking was rewarding, the scenery beautiful, the meals and drinks at the end of each day somehow tasted better as we felt we'd had to work for them.

Walks on Foot were instrumental in the original design of the route, arranged all of our accommodation, maps and baggage transfers and were hugely accommodating as we had to change dates at least three times because of Covid restrictions. They were always very responsive to requests for information or updates - it felt a very personal service.

Great hiking around the Lands End Peninsula in Cornwall

We did a five day hike from St Ives around the Lands End Peninsula. The scenery was amazing and, by and large, we enjoyed great weather.

Superb seven days hiking in the Dordogne

We started in Beaulieu sur Dordogne and hiked through, Port de Gagnac, Loubressac, Carennac, Meyronne and Rocamadour. It was very varied, well planned, with many interesting and different things to see each day. The kilometres to hike varied each day and all were great walking.

On Foot Holidays. It was exceptionally well orrganised from being met by taxi at the starting railway station to the taxi taking us to the ending railway station. The hotels were very good, Auberge, Logis and Hotels, with different and very good food at everyone. We were always expected at the overnight stop and welcomed by the hotel staff. Everything worked as plannned. Superb.

We went in October and the leaves were gorgeous. In Slovenia, the walking was very diverse going up and down mountains with incredible views, through meadows, quaint villages, vineyards and through woods. It was all fantastic. Touring Predjama Castle and Skocjan Caves added special interest to the walk although there were other interesting sites along the way too.

Rating for tour operator:

Offered a local English speaking contact who took us to the start point telling us interesting history on the way there. The luggage was transferred easily and accurately. Information sent ahead of time was very detailed with many maps of the walking route, notes for the routes and information about sites seen along the way. Recommended restaurants were sent. Conversation starters were also sent such as the accordion maker and player at one accommodation. The GPS information was invaluable for us and always let us know if we were going correctly. Accommodations were all unique and well-located. All were very nice and the staff at each place was very friendly.

Northern Portugal with On Foot by Helen, 4 Nov 2021

Getting to know the little-known.

Wonderful walking in a revelatory landscape - northern Portugal, largely in its national park. The walking routes were satisfyingly challenging, the sights and sounds and smells a joy for the senses, the people we met hospitable and kind, the places we stayed characterful and excellent. Oh, and the food and wine were great too!

This was our third trip with On Foot, and we cannot stop singing their praises. Utterly professional but also friendly and supremely helpful. Their love of sharing their joy of walking shines through, and the package they provide (walk routes and maps, accommodation, background information and support throughout the holiday) is absolutely brilliant. We feel in the safest of hands with On Foot.

The most memorable part of our trip

We used On Foot Holidays to book a trip to Devon, England. We use them for solo hikes and the instructions for the walks are very well organized and they include a detailed booklet that explains local history and calls out notable points. We walked through beautiful countryside and even got to visit Agatha Christie's house!
