On Foot - Naxos and Amorgos by Kolbird, 26 Jun 2022
Holiday Rating:

A perfectly organized self-guided walking holiday

We had a wonderful time exploring the less-traveled parts of the Greek islands of Amorgos and Naxos. The suggested walking routes were well designed and were appropriately rated for difficulty levels. Transfers to and from the ferries, as well as to and from the starts and ends of the walking routes, were prearranged and went off without a hitch.

This was our third walking holiday organized by OnFoot Holidays and, as before, we could not have expected a better trip. The level of organization....from route planning to local accommodation arrangements to personalized trip planning service....is always spot-on. The response times to emails with our questions both prior to and during the holiday was amazing. I'm certain we received some answers that were sent well outside of their normal office business hours. We can confidently recommended OnFoot Holidays for anyone wanting to do a self-guided walking holiday in Europe.

On Foot Holidays - Peak District by Suffolk Ramblers, 25 Jun 2022
Holiday Rating:

From peak to peak : on foot and by bus in the Peak District

Our holiday began at the southern tip of the Peak District and took us across dales, over high moors and along quiet grassy paths as well as well-trafficked, paved and sometimes eroded ridges. We spent a week following a route which had been planned for us, but we made various adjustments and took three different buses to shorten the full distance to walk. We stayed at a b & b, two hotels and an inn aptly named the Rambler Inn at Edale.

Once you have chosen your holiday from a range of British and continental options, On Foot Holidays provide an itinerary and detailed route-finding in a pack. In our case they included the two Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure maps of the Peak District. They also include public transport details relating to the start and finish of our holiday - Matlock and Edale in our case plus bus times for optional travel within the area. They also provide the phone number of a local person who can be contacted .in case of an emergency. Last but not least, they provide a luggage service to your onward destination so that you only have to carry a day-pack.

On Foot Holidays - Vikos Gorge by Archie, 24 Jun 2022

Living like a Pasha and swimming with dragons

A six-day holiday with five day mostly linear walk in the Vikos area, northern Greece. Luggage was transferred between guest houses. A really lovely and unique part of the world - the villages, paths, landscape all to be enjoyed, and some spectacular views. Varied, from Vikos Gorge, which was hot at the end of May, to the melting snowfields below Astraka. The trip included a night in Astraka Mountain Hut, and a walk to Dragon Lake (the 'dragons' ...

A really lovely and unique part of the world - the villages, paths, landscape all to be enjoyed, and some spectacular views. Varied, from Vikos Gorge, which was hot at the end of May, to the melting snowfields below Astraka. The trip included a night in Astraka Mountain Hut, and a walk to Dragon Lake (the 'dragons' are now the hundreds of newts that inhabit the lake). The guest house accommodation was luxury and the food excellent, particularly the home cooking (although the Greeks give you too much food and I never know how many courses to expect).

Rating for tour operator:

I was kept very well informed throughout. The location and itinerary were well thought out. A good sample of the villages and an interesting route. The amount of walking was well planned. All the accommodation was delightful. They provided a lot of information, which for me was too much (I had hoped to travel light). The personal itinerary, maps and GPS file were the most useful.

On Foot Holidays - Portugal by David and Rose , 21 Jun 2022

Excellent walking in delightful scenery in North Portugal

We walked for four days - arrangements by On Foot through the Geres National Park region and along a Roman road to Santa Maria do Bouro. Early May was a perfect time - comfortable temperature and vegetation at its best. Route planning by On Foot was good - challenging some days but just enough and transfers of us and our bags was smooth.

Very helpful and responsive to queries - but the documentation including route planning app was comprehensive.

Really helpful in arranging all aspects of the holiday from the pick up at Rome airport on arrival. Everything ran smoothly and to plan. We have used On Foot Holidays before and will continue to do so. The pack of information supplied is invaluable; well thought out and presented and containing all possible information we might require.

Walking in glorious, unspoilt ancient woodlands and mountains

Seven days of carefully planned routes through beautiful countryside, stopping each night in delightful, medieval towns and villages or rural bed and breakfast farms or houses. Late Spring in Umbria is ideal for observing flora, wildlife and incredible views. The added bonus being the lack of other folk along the way. In fact we walked for seven days without meeting a single other hiker.

Communication with clients is second to none. Even questions asked on a Sunday are answered on that day. The walking routes are meticulously prepared and well thought out and the maps and instructions are extensive and most valuable. All of the accomodation was ideal and obviously, carefully selected. We have traveled with On Foot four times and are already thinking about the next trip with them.

Wonderful self guided walk among the Ligurian Hills and then down to the coast

Our holiday was the 7 night, 6 day walking option which we really enjoyed. Part of the route follows the “Via del Sale” (Salt Road). We walked through some stunning scenery and the feeling of walking down to the coast on the last day was quite special. The holiday took us off the beaten track, staying with very friendly hosts. This gave us the opportunity to visit places and meet people we would never find by ourselves. Our bespoke walkers pack was prepared and sent in advance by On Foot and contained excellent useful local information along with extremely accurate route notes for each day's walk. Our luggage was transferred along the way and we stayed at super friendly, family run, excellent farms and hotels. For this walk on most days dinner, breakfast and packed lunches were supplied by our hosts using local ingredients cooked in local ways which is just how we like it.

Rating for tour operator:

This was the 5th walking holiday we have done with On Foot Holidays. As usual the communication, advise and organisation from On Foot was excellent. The On Foot office staff, the local contact and the individual hosts were very friendly and helpful. It was a slightly harder grade than we have done previously. The advise given by On Foot prior to us deciding to book this particular holiday was spot on.

On Foot Holidays, Salisbury. As always they provided a very personal, professional and immaculately organised holiday experience. They are very good at pre-departure and in-country information including detailed route notes and clear maps, and always respond very promptly to queries. On the ground in Portugal they have an excellent local contact who clearly knows the area and people well and was in touch with us every day.

Our group of 4 walked the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela in May 2022. The trail went through quiet countryside and over mountains, where the vistas were breathtaking. About three days in, we realised why it was a "pilgrimage". Unlike other walking holidays, the consecutive days of long, undulating walks tested our resolve to continue. Old injuries flared up, and evenings were spent nursing aching limbs and painful blisters. With some effort we persisted, helping each other along, and finding inspiration and camaraderie with the other pilgrims. Somehow, we completed the trail. Now we look back on the 320km we traversed with pride and satisfaction. We're not Catholics, nor are we particularly religious. But the Camino invited rumination, and refreshed us spiritually and mentally. On the trail they say "the Camino provides" - we found that it did, and continues to do so long after we said good bye to Santiago.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays did an excellent job of planning and supporting our walk. Their local contact, Aznar was very attentive and friendly. He checked in on us regularly and offered many useful tips. The hotels, B&Bs and albergues we stayed in were clean and safe, and some (like Casa Camino in Merlan) were very special indeed.
