Fab wildlife holiday in Crete

Great week in Crete, really relaxing and saw amazing orchids, golden eagle and snowy mountains! Enjoyed the archaeology sites - amazing what the minoans built, and some lovely monasteries plus fab food and sun.

Spring birding in Sicily

A week in Sicily enjoying the spring wildflowers, birds, culture and of course Mt Etna. The local guide was very knowledgeable and engaging and the accommodation was good - especially the food!

We've been travelling with Naturetrek for about 20 years - they are excellent for wildlife holidays and have also put together several trips specifically tailored to our requirements. Highly recommended.

Wonderful days birding on sea and land

Lovely day out with knowledgeable guide and excellent organisation. Lots to see and great to be out with a guide who knows where to look and points out the most interesting birds, mammals, insects and flora.

Spring Flowers and Birds in Crete

Small group exploration of western Crete with two experienced leaders searching for spring orchids and other flowers and migrating birds. Together with visits to several cultural sites and a splendid trek down the Imbros Gorge made for a very memorable holiday in company with a great group of like-minded people.

In spite of an extensive collection of holidays world-wide NatureTrek feels like a small family-run operator with a personalised service to match. The holidays are well described in adequate and, judging by our experience, accurate detail on the web and in the information provided. The experience promised was well achieved and exceeded in some areas. The price was reasonable given the current crisis in the industry and there were no unexpected costs. There were no organisational surprises and everything proceeded smoothly with some appropriate adjustments to allow for weather variations. A few pre-travel enquiries were very promptly and personally dealt with. An impressive achievement overall. Better than previous holidays with Explore, Exodus and Jules Verne.

An incredible experience in nature

A week of botany and birdwatching in Crete with Nature Trek. I enjoyed the sheer delight the leaders had in showing us the beautiful locations and what they had to offer, from the tiniest plant to the largest eagle. I came on this tour with an interest in botany but left with a new interest in birding. I came on this tour with an interest in botany but left with a new interest in birding. Hearing a nightingale, seeing bee eaters and a huge flock of purple herons were all highlights for me, but there were plenty of other wonderful occasions, too numerous to mention. The group shared their vast amount of knowledge, and the leaders were encouraging and patient with all of us. We visited a wide range of locations with varied habitats, all very well researched in advance. The food and accommodation were top class and our every need was met.

Rating for tour operator:

Easy to communicate with and regular updates via email to let us know what was going on leading up to the holiday. The planning and research for the holiday was excellent.

Wonderful bird watching in Northumberland

This was a one day trip to the Northumberland coast booked through Naturetrek. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area's wildlife and history. WE visited several places during the day and maximised our time in the field.

Varied habitat and lots to see

The walk was led by a very knowledgeable birder who taught us about different bird calls. We saw coast, heath, wetland, grassland and forest all in a day. The only downside for me was the shingle walking which was hard going. But I did thoroughly enjoy the day and saw a few firsts for me in the birding world.

Educational and enjoyable

Our guide was very knowledgeable and was sure to point out all that he saw, as well as willing to listen to knowledge we had. He knew the area well and gave us a wonderful introduction to Grafham water. We will be going back again for sure.

I had high expectations from my Naturetrek tour and they were surpassed.

After two years of covid delays my 60 year wait ( ever since as a child reading about it in Sir Peter Scott’s ‘Wildlife in Danger’ Brooke Bond picture card Album), to visit the Donana National Park on a birding holiday became a reality. A two hour flight to Seville and easy passage through the airport found us in no time travelling southwest with my fellow birders and tour guide Byron. With stops to view the abundant birds en route, we arrived at the incredible town of El Rocio. A town with a Wild West feel with sandy streets and horses rule. This isn’t just for the tourists, El Rocio is a town that has brought with it its 19th century customs and traditions. Our hotel, the Toruno, is traditional Spanish. The restaurant is across the sandy road two minutes walk away and feel like you’re walking into a frontier Wild West saloon. Large wooden barrels, wooden tables and horse hitching posts further add to the scene. Food was traditional with a choice of three starters, three mains and dessert. Alcohol and soft drinks were part of tour package. The five day at tour with Naturetrek was an adventure. Byron immersed us into a cultural, natural, scenic and exciting exploration of this fantastic National Park. The starting point was the Flamingo laden lagoon on the hotel doorstep. From here daily tours took us deeper and deeper into some areas off limits to public access. Storks, kites, bee eaters, shrikes were just some of the never ending array of the avian kind. However, for those who wanted to experience more than that, this tour delivered some fabulous vistas, beautiful town squares, wine tasting and more. Don’t take my word for it, if you can, just do it!

Rating for tour operator:

I found Naturetrek to be very clear and easy to correspond with. The website was straightforward enough and brochure inspiring. It felt like a personal service and I didn’t have to jump through hoops or listen to repetitive telephone music. During covid cancellations there was a no quibble refund or credit note option. I’m glad I took the credit note, it was a wonderful experience and would I do it again? Yes certainly .
