Birds and Botany in New Zealand

Brilliant holiday with x12 persons in our group. Our Guide from New Zealand had organised an excellent itinerary including places where tourists would not have known to go. He also knew how to avoid the tourists when we visited the well known sites. We spent the best part of three weeks covering the north and south islands and Stewart Island. During travel on our coach our Guide imparted his knowledge and experience of life as it has been, and how it now is, in New Zealand, as well as the Birds and Botany experience. Could not have asked for more in having a Nature tour that managed to encompass the varied landscapes of New Zealand.

Mark was just what one required on such a tour - full of knowledge and enthusiasm with the subject and an ability to encompass everyone’s differing requirements from the trip. He was always cheerful and approachable and never seemed to appear tired of being asked repeated questions! He went out of his way to be helpful and give us information so that we could have the best experiences from coffee shops to sea faring trips.

Naturetrek ran an excellent trip. Within Tanzania we were looked after by Ranger safaris and our wonderful, knowledgeable guide, Martin

The best of the Andes and the Amazon, all in one trip
I experienced 2 very different, and 2 very amazing areas in one trip. My guide was incredible with her knowledge of the wildlife, and also her organisational skills, making everyone feel at ease. I have been to the Amazon a few times before, but this was by far, the best experience ever.

Tailor made at El Karama conservancy Laikipia Kenya with unusual sightings...
Before I went, I was a bit concerned that the conservancy would be fenced-in...rather as in parts of South Africa...so that we would just be seeing the same animals ...but in a different order every day...However, there were few fences between bordering conservancies...so that wildlife could move freely from one to another...hence we could see a very wide range of Laikipia wildlife Great support from Naturetrek after the 2 hour flight delay...

Th short rains hadn't finished (end of Jan 25)... however, the cooler, wetter weather encouraged a lot of usually nocturnal animals to show themselves...I was amazed to see Striped hyena, Aardwolf and Bat Eared Foxes out and about during the middle of the day... There were also other rarities like Grevys Zebra...as well as a jackal den with 5 pups...who we avidly followed over the 6 days of our stay. The food was very tasty and well-presented... I ate far too much...although, it was basically "take it or leave it" menu... Our last night was at Hemingways, Nairobi: the suite was enormous and had a great view over the pleasant gardens...the food was excellent...shame we were only there for less than a day.

As mentioned, we had a 2 hour flight delay...Naturetrek contacted us before we had even realised...and sorted out with Chameleon Tours (the operator) a car to drive us ...which unfortunately took 5 hours...with some very heavy traffic in Nairobi

A memorable visit to the south of Costa Rica
this was a tailor-made tour taking us to three spectacular locations in the south of Costa Rica to see some of the abundant wildlife and vegetation in this area. This complemented the two-week hiking and wildlife tour we had just enjoyed in the north and central areas of the country. We had a number of outings with birding guides, including a very special night tour, and saw a good number of birds, mammals and reptiles.

Naturetrek is a specialist wildlife tour operator. They operate in a large number of different countries, using local guides as appropriate. Tours include individual days in different locations in the UK, longer tours for groups and also tailor-made trips. they often combine wildlife with local culture, and may concentrate on birds, butterflies or flowers. they are a very professional operator covering all aspects of a particular trip and with a friendly and knowledgeable team who will advise on any queries. Their website is very informative.

Best safari so far
El Karama is a hidden gem, and Laikipia is best described as Maasai Mara without the crowds. The variety of wildlife is exceptional for just 20 square miles. Worth the money.

Ive been using Naturetrek for nearly 10 years now, for both group tours and tailormade. On this trip the flight was 2 hours late, so we missed our connection in Nairobi. Alternative transport was arranged without problem. Another time our local airline was grounded, again the revised flight schedule was organised perfectly.
