Loved every Minute

Bird watching tour with Nature Trek in Mallorca. Never been there before and was delighted with the birds seen. Our guide was excellent quickly spotting birds and telling us all about them. Our accommodation was comfortable and the food really delicious. The location of the hotel (Pollentia) was the best bit as it was next to the L'Albfretta reserve allowing us to bird watch from a hide or viewing platform before breakfast and in the evening.

Rating for tour operator:

Our tour operator was an experienced birder and extremely caring of our small group, two of which were in their 80s. He knew all the best places to go and bird watch and was an excellent driver.

NatureTrek holiday in Andalusia based I el Rocio and Extramadura

The stunning little village oF el Rocio in the Donana NP was our centre for four days. Flamingos, ibis, terns, spoonbills etc in the marismas seen, and great reed warbler heard, from my bedroom window. ProudAndalusian horses parading every evening. Charming people. Delicious food. Wonderful wildlife, so many different birds and flowers in the Donana capped by watching a rare lynx for five minutes or so. Golden Orioles, nightingales and larks singing everywhere we went, and the beautiful bee eaters flitting about. Then up to Extramadura to the central plains for four comfortable nights in the middle of no where. Again highly varied habitats. Steppes with a huge variety of birds with the very great privilege of seeing the Great Bustard displaying. Rock faces holding many raptors’ nests with griffon vultures soaring on the thermals and actually flying close in below us so we could see them from above. Bright blue rock thrushes, handsome black storks. Add to that the wonderful woodland with the soft new growth of the downy oak relieving the dark of the evergreen cork and holm oaks. Golden orioles and yet more nightingales singing. Every day brought so many new delights all shared with a great bunch of people and two most exceptional guides.

Rating for tour operator:

Extremely helpful, good information and instructions and had to cope with flight changes. So glad they have survived what must have been a very worrying two years.

Birds, birds and more birds

An excellent introduction to the Coto Donana and Extremadura areas of Spain, led by extremely knowledgeable and committed guides. A very well organised tour, pleasant rural hotels and excellent picnic lunches. Birding orientated tour but the guides were also very knowledgeable about flowers, reptiles, mammals and local culture contributing to a very enjoyable tour.

I booked this tour before Covid and 'rolled ' it forward twice. Naturetrek's communications were helpful throughout and all problems dealt with, including a flight cancellation shortly before the tour. A good value tour.

Inspirational trim to a farm being managed for wildlife

A one day trip to Eyebrook Wild Bird Foods farm. The managers took us around and explained what and how they manage the farm to protect and increase wildlife. Additionally we had a superb guide who showed us a huge number of different birds and mammals on the farm and at the adjoining Eyebrook reservoir.

Fantastic birding, wildlife and farming day.

This was a guided day around a working farm with wild life and conservation at the heart of it. Our guide was an excellent naturalist and birder so was able to highlight an enormous amount of wildlife. We also learnt a great deal from the farmer about how they farm for wildlife and have diversified into producing and selling a wide range of bird seed.

Excellent day trip

It was a day’s walking around Slapton nature reserve and Beesands. We saw some very unusual birds, fish and plants which made the whole experience second to none. The guides were very knowledgeable and were able to point out all sorts of things which we would have missed without them.

Go Slow in Tuscany

A week looking at birds, butterflies and plants centred on the Maremma Park. Excellent guides and good itinerary. In some ways the accommodation fell short of expectation though the hosts were very good. The room lacked comfortable seating, a safe, a stocked minibar, tea making facilities. For our evening group meetings there was no lounge area and no bar, so we met in the dining room. The food was advertised as ‘fantastic’ but was variable ...

For our evening group meetings there was no lounge area and no bar, so we met in the dining room. The food was advertised as ‘fantastic’ but was variable and good at best.

Rating for tour operator:

Booking was relatively easy and staff were helpful. The guides on location were excellent. Unfortunately the Head Office changed our itinerary on the first day: we were due to make an important town visit but this did not happen as the guides were told to wait for members of the group arriving later on a different flight to the one booked by Naturetrek. Very disappointing.

A lovely island with good birding, botanising and historic sites of real interest

First visit to Sardinia and it didn’t disappoint. Mountains, forests and lovely beaches as well as Italian cuisine. What’s not to like! April visit and the island’s wild flowers including hundreds of orchids (28 different species) were such a delight. I’d recommend it
