10 day holiday to Romania taking in the Carpathian Mountains, the Danube Delta and the area surrounding Tulcea. It far exceeded our expectations. Our hotels on the ground had large comfortable facilities with friendly efficient staff and our flotel on the Danube was wonderful. The 6 crew members were delightful, the dining room was the main focus and we were treated to wonderful table displays and excellent meals. The birdwatching was beyond belief with possibly 30 cuckoos each day! Herons, grebes and terns galore, we sometimes didn't know which way to turn to see everything. All of this was capped with a visit to Piatra Craiului National Park to see brown bears and we were not disappointed. We sat quietly in a hide and watched as, over a period of time, eight brown bears including two cubs entered the clearing in front of us to find food. It was a fantastic sight to see these rare creatures so close to us. Best birdwatching holiday we have had in 20 years of guided holidays.

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek are professional and efficient. We live near Manchester and they have no problem in arranging our flights from there, if possible, rather than London. We have always had good accommodation, good food and excellent tour leaders from the UK and the local guides used have a wealth of knowledge about their own surroundings and the wildlife within and an enthusiasm which is contagious. Our two local guides on this particular holiday were both mid-twenties with so much knowledge of the wildlife and the history of their country it amazed us. They were also fluent in many languages. We could not have asked for better guides. We feel we are really "looked after" when we travel with Naturetrek. Good value for money also.

Scilly landscape & wildlife-fest.

A wonderful week of walking around the Scilly islands, with boat trips to all inhabited islands. Starting in the fog, we had a ghostly introduction to the islands, arriving in the mist on a ferry blasting its foghorn. The unique mix of colourful coastline, exotic flowers and a medley of birds, including some exotic migrants, is unbeatable so near to the UK mainland. I'm seduced by the Scillies!

Rating for tour operator:

Naturetrek was efficient and helpful with pre-trip mailings. Their literature is very informative, allowing a detailed idea of what the trip will involve, including illustrations. Their tour guide was absolutely superb, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the Scilly Islands and their wildlife - both flora and fauna. Thank you!

Bird tour of Romania

The tour was well organised and all aspects had been carefully considered with good accommodation and food including a few nights on a floating river boat on the Danube which although cramped downstairs was spacious and comfortable upstairs. We managed to see a great many bird species along with a range of flower, insects and mammals. All in all we thought the holiday was very good value and we are looking forward to our next holiday with Naturetrek.

Rating for tour operator:

A great introduction to Romanian wildlife

My first visit to Romania and we stayed in two centres, the Carpathian mountains and the Danube Delta, two very different landscapes. Hotels were excellent, including our floating hotel through the Delta. Food was also excellent. Our guides, both the one from the Uk and out two Romanian Guides were friendly, and very knowledgable. I learnt much about wildlife and also Romania, it's people and it's history. I will definitely try to return to Romania...

Please note there was a major cycle race, so there were loads of Cyclists, but that wasn't a problem. The food was very good and the friendship was really good.

Rating for tour operator:

I travelled with Naturetrek and they are an excellent company to travel with. And the tour leader was really good. They are very knowledgeable and know the best places to see wildlife and even off the beaten track was an advantage as the birds were present at all the sites we visited.

Rich in Nature from the Carpathians to the Danube Delta

Whether we were in the Transylvanian mountains or the down on the delta, the variety and wealth of wildlife was exceptional. Accommodation was always of a high standard for such a trip as were the meals, both in the hotels and during the day. We were a mixed bunch of naturalists, photographers and sightseers yet our guides brought us all together so that we worked as a team of observers and nature specialists and could not have got more from the holiday. A truly enjoyable experience.

Rating for tour operator:

The information provided before our tour ensured that we were well prepared for all eventualities with an expectation of what were might see and also what we might expect of our living and travel conditions. Booking was easy and the administration of the complete holiday went extremely well. We were therefore able to pack for the tour with the right clothes and accoutrements and were well prepared for all conditions.

Quality instead of Quantity

Main goal was to see an aardvark and we saw 5 (FIVE). Great diversity of other (rare) animals seen like aardwolf, hedgehog, black footed cat, caracal, brown hyena. The aim of the trip was to see South Africa's rare animals and we surely did. We did not have real quantity sightings but instead very high quality sightings. Local guides were excellent, very knowledgeable. Accommodations were excellent.

Birds, food and scenery in Spain with naturetrek

We visited Coto Donana and Extremadura in Spain, with Naturetrek. Excellent holiday - we recommend it. We saw a great variety of birds. Also flowers and scenery. The two places we stayed were full of atmosphere and the food was particularly good. We were with a very pleasant group of people, with whom we found plenty to talk about. The group leaders were superb and made the holiday a great experience for us. Would go with Naturetrek again!
